Welcome to the heart and soul of Dubrovnik! Located in the southeastern part of the city, this area is famous for its medieval walls made completely out of white stone! And not just that, if youve watched Game Of Thrones Im sure youll recognize tons of locations from the Old Town. All the big historical landmarks, museums, and gothic architecture make this area the best choice where to stay in Dubrovnik.
This city is a UNESCO World Heritage site and its not the only one in Croatia, the Plitvice Lakes are also included and a place I highly recommend you visit. You can find more about it in this post about the best accommodation near the lakes.
Start your day by walking on the popular Stradun street in the Old Town, made entirely out of white marble! This is a top attraction for every tourist, and youre so going to love the feeling that you get here! Its like opening the door to the past with all the Renaissance houses lining each side of the street.
You should also see the ancient city walls and get lost in the magical atmosphere there. If you choose a hotel in the heart of the Old Town then youll be able to get around on foot as most attractions are less than 20 minutes away from the accommodations.
Car Rental In Dubrovnik
If you fly into Dubrovnik airport and plan to stay in the town, you actually don’t need a car. Car in Dubrovnik can be more hustle than anything else.
Parking places are scarce, and they are expensive. Besides, streets are often narrow, and jam-packed with cars. Dubrovnik public transport is good, cabs are plentiful, and walking is always an option. So, if you plan only to visit Dubrovnik, don’t even think about renting a car.
However, if you plan to spend just a couple of days here and then travel up the coast to Split or Peljesac, renting a car might be a good idea, and much better than using buses. A car gives you more freedom, and it’s much faster to travel by car than by bus.
You might also plan to do day trips from Dubrovnik on your own, and you will need a car. In that case, consider renting a car only for days you will actually need it.
Few tips for renting a car in Dubrovnik:
- Rent your car well in advance if you plan to visit in July and August.
- Book early in order to secure the best price available.
- The smaller the car, the easier it is to park it. And also, the cheaper it is.
You can expect to pay 80 a day for a mini size car in a high season. The same car you can find for as low as 20 in a low season.

I Love Dubrovnik And It’s My 2nd Visit
I love Dubrovnik and it’s my 2nd visit. Dubrovnik is one of the most romantic and beautiful old fortress city that I have visited in the world. It has gone through some natural disaster but still intact with many locals still living in the old town and this is what I love about Croatia. It is a visual feast in every steps you take at any time of the day and thus the the most photographic city. There’s too much to it than in this short review to write about it. I could easily spent more than 2 weeks and am sure to find many little hidden spots. One can just jump off any rocks to have a swim in this crystal clear turquoise Adriatic sea.
