Best Area To Stay In Boston For Vacation

The Element Boston Seaport Hotel

Boston Vacation Travel Guide | Expedia

The Element Hotel, which is located near the Boston Convention Center in the Seaport District of Boston, is a great spot for a family vacation. This green boutique hotel chain, part of the Westin brand, is perfect for an extended stay. Rooms include kitchens, and theres plenty of space for the whole family to spread out.

While the area is a bit remote, some areas, like Faneuil Hall and the Boston Childrens Museum are within walking distance. During our stay, we walked and took cabs. The hotel offers a small saline pool, fitness center, and complimentary breakfast buffet. Its definitely a great place to stay if youd like to save some money on your trip.

Its currently closed for renovation, but the Langham Boston hotel is another great option once it reopens.

Where To Stay In Boston Neighborhoods & Area Guide

The capital and the largest city in the state of Massachusetts, Boston is recognized in the United States of America for its rich history and culture, plush residential and commercial structures, countless museums, a gorgeous waterfront, and innumerable entertainment avenues for locals and visitors alike. One of the top 10 most-visited places in America, the city is nestled on the shores of Atlantic Ocean, the only one of its kind in the contiguous United States.

A part of the New England region, the weather here can get slightly unpredictable but that doesnt restrict visitors from all around the country and the world to arrive here and have an amazing time exploring some of Americas best University campuses, revered museums, and a second-to-none waterfront.

Let us now explore some of the popular, even historic neighborhoods in the city so you can decide where to stay in Boston during your trip.

Best Party Hostel In Boston Backpackers Hostel & Pub

Cant be bothered to leave the hostel to grab a beer? Well, this hostel has a pub on-site, which means you dont need to deal with those strange Bostonian liquor stores.

The hostel is located a bit out of the way but, luckily, there is a shuttle that will ferry you to the nearest subway stop. No promises on whether or not theyll drive your drunk ass though.

Hotel Bidding Secret Hotels And Last Minute Travel

A great way to get save money on Boston Hotels is using a service like Priceline to bid on hotels at a price you are comfortable with. You may not end up with a hotel at a ridiculously low price, but chances are you may score a great hotel below the going rate in a decent location.

Keep in mind when you bid for a hotel in Boston, you bid based on the star rating, general area and what price you would like to pay. You have to enter a credit card and if your offer is accepted then you will see where you are staying after you are charged. If your bid isnt accepted, then you wont be charged. Its pretty impossible to get your money back if you are not happy with your hotel you end up with so make sure you are comfortable with your bid.

LastMinuteTravel.com is a booking website similar to Priceline.com where you cannot see what hotel you end up until the end. However, the nice thing about Last Minute Travel is the site isnt that secretive and discreet with the majority of Boston hotels. If you find a hotel you are interested in, check out the photo section and a lot of times there will be a picture of the front of the hotel or a picture of the lobby with the hotel name. Also, they give a lot of information in the description, so if you cannot tell by pictures, you may be able to tell by a quick google search with the number of rooms, location, etc.

Where To Stay In Boston On A Budget

Nov 1, 2019 | Featured, Misc

Are you looking for an inexpensive, cheap hotels in Boston? You are not alone.

According to a new study by GoEuro, Boston is the 6th most expensive city in the world for accommodations and the most expensive city in the world for AirBnB bookings. Ouch.

However, just because hotel rates in Boston can be expensive, doesnt mean you cant find an inexpensive hotel in Boston without sacrificing quality.

First off, Boston Hotel prices can vary A LOT depending on your dates and what is happening in the city. Generally speaking, you will get the best hotel rates in the winter months, but not always. The more flexibility you have with dates, the better rates you may find. .

Also, Boston is a walking city and you may be surprised how close attractions are together. If you do visit Boston, please do not rent a car. Parking is expensive and there are a lot of one-way streets which can make driving in Boston difficult. The MBTA is a great way to get around the city as well as walking.

Best Boston Neighborhood Overall: Back Bay

If you can stay in any neighborhood in Boston, my top recommendation is Back Bay. This neighborhood is pretty much the dead center of Boston youre never far from anything. It also has some of the best hotels.

Back Bay is home to some of the priciest real estate in town, as well as some of the best shopping. And youre steps from Bostons top tourist attractions, like the Boston Public Library, Trinity Church, and the Boston Public Garden, as well as the Boston Marathon finish line at Copley Square.

Newbury Street is home to luxury shops and indie boutiques as well as plenty of sidewalk cafes. On a warm day in Boston, this is one of the best places to dine outside. One of my favorite streets in Boston is Back Bays Marlborough Street, filled with beautiful brownstones . And if youre set on shopping, Boylston Street, the shops at the Prudential, and Copley Plaza are home to all the big brands.

To the north of Back Bay is the Esplanade, where you can run, picnic, or catch a summer concert at the Hatchshell. And youre still within walking distance of the Theatre District, Boston Common and the State House, the restaurants and bars of Tremont Street, and the art museums of Fenway.

The neighborhood of Back Bay borders the South End, Fenway, the Theatre District, and the Public Garden with easy access to Beacon Hill. The green line has several stops here and the 1 bus gives you the fastest way to Cambridge.

South End Where To Stay In Boston For A Local Experience

Top Places To Eat In Boston [4K] – Vacation Travel Guide – Boston Massachusetts

Nestled behind Back Bay and just a 10-minute drive from Downtown Boston lies a cozy neighborhood full of bars, restaurants, and art galleries called South End. Things move at a slow pace in the South End, which is why it is a perfect neighborhood for families or couples who want a more local experience. This artsy residential area is where you will find the young and hip crowd in Boston and has a beautiful sense of weekend calm and relaxation.

South End is one of the most diverse neighborhoods in Boston. It is home to a wide variety of people coming from different social and economic backgrounds, creating a unique culture and international vibe. This neighborhood is also filled with the typical Boston Victorian-style houses and parks, but what makes this area unique is its quirky art, experimental theatres, and independent boutiques.

There is a range of different accommodation options in South End to suit all different budgets, but I have narrowed down the top 4 for you here:

  • Marvel at the International Poster Gallery
  • Discover the South Boston hipster culture by wandering the streets
  • Head down to the neighboring theatre district to catch a show
  • Enjoy an afternoon people watching from a cafe

Best Boston Neighborhood For Hipsters And Intellectuals: Harvard Square Cambridge

Cambridge is technically a separate city from Boston, but youd never know its located right across the river and its got just as much public transportation. Cambridge neighborhoods vary quite a bit, but I overall recommend Harvard Square.

Not only is it at Harvards doorstep, but it gives you access to the kinds of businesses that students and faculty love: the enormous Harvard bookstore, interesting museums, theater productions big and small, a fun bar and restaurant scene , cool cafes with free wifi, running and walking trails along the Charles River, and easy access to Boston via the red line. And Harvard University is open to the public! Feel free to take a tour or explore Harvard Yard on your own.

Harvard Squares hip days have passed, but its a good choice for accessing the hip local parts of Cambridge and next-door Somerville like Central Square, Inman Square, Union Square, and Davis Square. Good luck finding tourists in any of these neighborhoods! Instead youll be rewarded by cool shops, excellent coffee, and perhaps Bostons least sporty enclaves.

Harvard Square is between Central Square and Porter Square with Inman Square close by. Get here on the red line at Harvard or take the #1 bus.

What To Do/see Here

Explore the heart of Americas revolutionary history. You and your kids can walk around the Freedom Trail and visit some of the 16 historic sights of the area. Or you can enjoy the splash fountain in Rose F. Kennedy Greenway, especially during summer. A swan boat ride in the Public Garden is also a good idea when traveling with children.

Cheaper Hotels In Boston Suburbs

A lot of visitors assume that staying outside the city of Boston is the best way to save on hotel costs. However, you may be spending just as much to stay outside the city plus spending a lot more time traveling each day. Not all suburban hotels offer free parking on-site and you may still need to drive and park at a train station or a city garage as well as the cost of the T, so travel expenses can quickly add up. Also, plan on at spending at least 40 minutes commuting by train into the city one-way, which can take up some valuable sight-seeing and vacation time.

For example, a CharlieTicket will run $5.10 to and from and large MBTA parking lots tend to charge $5-7 a day for parking. For example, a family of 4 could pay over $27 a day to park at a T lot and then take the T in on top of car rental costs and gas.

Typically I do recommend staying inside the city and walking and taking public transit everywhere. However, in some cases staying outside of the city may be the best option depending on how busy the city is or your exact travel plans.

If you do decide to stay outside the city and take the T into the city, Riverside , Alewife , Quincy Adams and Sullivan Square are popular MBTA parking garages, although not to say that other parking garages wont work. For example, some parking garages like Braintree will fill up on a weekday by 8 am, whereas, the next parking garage up, Quincy Adams, has a lot more parking spots and availability.
