Best Area To Stay In Chicago Without A Car

Using Public Transport From Suburbs Might Not Be As Easy

Chicago Travel – How to Get Around – 5 Ways

Do you need a car in Chicago? If youre planning to stay in a suburb, then yes.

This is one of the few instances where renting a car wins over using public transport.

Riding from a suburb to downtown Chicago can take an hour, and sometimes even more.

If youve got a kid with you, then an hour-long ride to the city and an hour to get back home on a packed train can prove quite overwhelming and tiring.

Plus, off-hour trains are infrequent, and sometimes not available.

So if youre staying in a suburb, consider a rental car to drive to the city. But dont go all the way in find a parking spot on the outskirts and use public transport to travel downtown.

Its easier and quicker this way, considering all the traffic within the city.

Tip 2 No Its Not Just You Denver Hotels Are Really Expensive

A lot of people come to Denver thinking the town will make for a great budget vacation destination. That may have been true a decade ago, but these days Denver is one of the most popular business and travel locations in the United States. Prices for Denver accommodation reflect the citys popularity, so its pretty much impossible to find any true budget hotels in Denver. A good deal in Denver these days is pretty much any hotel under $250/night. In fact, there really isnt even a single neighborhood in Denver where you can find truly budget hotel stays, although the Capitol Hill area comes closest.

Denver is the most expensive part of the state by far. If youre on a budget and have the flexibility to check out other destinations in Colorado, consider visiting one of the many other places to visit in Colorado instead. There are a lot of activities to do in Colorado beyond just Denver!

How To Get Around

Chicago is a really walkable city. All the main things to see and do during your 2 days in Chicago are within walking distance from each other, except for the Museum Campus. This is a major perk and what makes visiting Chicago so fun and relaxing!

For longer stretches, taxi or Uber are highly prevalent and can typically be found within 2 3 minutes of any given address. In addition, Chicago is well-known for its convenient street labeling system and elevated public transport system.

Chicagos unique double and triple-decker roadway system results in some streets having an upper-level riverfront boulevard, a lower-level roadway for commercial and through traffic, and a recreational walkway at water level.

Though this may sound confusing, it is very straightforward and easy to get around downtown Chicago. Street signs, walking maps, and plenty of friendly faces are readily available to ask for directions.

TIP: A fun way to cut down on the walking while touring Chicago is to book a hop-on-hop-off bus sightseeing experience. Its not only convenient transportation between all of the major attractions, but it also provides an insightful narration of the city and its highlights.

Though there are several different companies to choose from, we loved our tour on BigBus Chicago. With their frequent pick-up times, helpful narration, and handicap accessibility, touring the city this way was a fun addition to our two days in Chicago.

Best Area To Stay Without A Car

Hi..we will be arriving in oct/16 for a 4 day visit from the UK & wont be hiring a car so would appreciate advice on the best areas to stay so that we can ideally walk around the city & use public transport…i have been trying to do some research & have seen the Revere hotel in Stuart street ..is this a good location too?…look forward to your replies…Thanks in advance

Most of the hotels in central Boston are convenient to either walking to points of interest or getting mass transportation. Take a look at this hotel locator website. The Revere is good, central location.

Anything in the Back Bay, Theater District, Boston Common Are, Beacon Hill, Financial District, Quincy Market , and the downtown waterfront is fine. The Seaport District is lively at night but not close to historical sites.

The Revere meets your needs

Thanks very much thats really helpful

and found it very convenient for getting around

Where you should stay depends a lot on what you plan to do. Mostly shopping in the Back Bay area, following the Freedom Trail, visiting the North End, Common and Public Gardens, etc. As long as you are not way out on the outskirts of the city you will be fine since Boston is not that big a town.

Best Place To Stay In Chicago For Tourists And Sightseeing

Chicago clearly has a lot to offer whether you are a family or a single budget traveler.

West Loop, in particular, is ideal for visitors with its great vibe, convenient access to numerous attractions and a wide variety of residential setups for tourist accommodation.

So if you are planning a trip there this is a great place to consider as your first option of where to stay.

Suggested accommodations in THE LOOP:

Lincoln Park Good Area For Families

Located on the North Lakeside, Lincoln Park is the largest park in Chicago, and further boasts one of the citys most affluent neighborhoods. Warmer seasons make for ideal beach-going, while the Lincoln Park Conservatory lets guests explore a paradise of tropical flora & fauna.

The Lincoln Park zoo is a crowd-pleaser for all ages, and the Chicago History Museum offers visitors a special treat in the form of a giant, climbable Chicago-style hot dog.

The Steppenwolf Theater Company, where award-winning stars such as John Malkovich and Gary Sinise honed their acting skills, is still up and running, while the lesser-known but equally worthwhile Theatre on the Lake has its own ongoing roster of shows and events.

And of course, an afternoon in Lincoln Park is its own main attraction, with the parks lily pond, pavilion, and sprawling green making it the perfect picnic site.
