Best Area To Stay And Travel Assistance
I’ve been reading around the forums about the best places to stay, in particular, thanks to John P, for your response on this thread: The main thing is that we won’t be driving, so, will solely be relying on public transport or taxis.
We will need to go to Prairie Village , but will be staying in Kansas City . Which area is best for us to stay in, particularly given that we won’t have a car? We were thinking of either the Downtown area or near the Country Club Plaza.
As we’ve never been to Kansas City before, will be it easy to get around, and especially, if we need to make our way to Prairie Village? I’ve read the ‘Should I rent a car?’ post, which talks about public transport – Since I saw on Google maps that Prairie Village is 20 minutes drive away from the Downtown area, are we better off catching a taxi , or taking public transport , which I assume is cheaper? If we take a taxi, how much would it cost? If we take public transport, would it be very difficult to know where to go/stop, especially for someone who has never been before?
Thank you so much for your help! I really appreciate any advice you can provide! 🙂

Best Area Of Town To Stay In
I’ll be in town for 1 night with my husband in early December. It’s part of a surprise 40th birthday trip for him to see a Kansas basketball game in Lawrence. Any suggestions on an area of town to stay in that has good restaurants/things to see? It’ll be my first time to KC and my husbands first time in at least 20 years. Also looking for good hotel recs…ideally not spending more than $150/night.

If you plan to stay in Kansas City I would suggest Hotel Sorella on the plaza. Very nice hotel
Hello, dawgfan! Enjoy watching a KU game at Allen Fieldhouse. It is quite the experience. I want to first answer your question by drawing a point of differentiation between KC and Lawrence. KU is an hour west of Kansas City, just to ensure your understanding is solid and you aren’t looking for hotel accommodations in KC. I agree that The Oread is a great hotel and has a very central location to “the action”, however you may have issues finding accommodations, depending on which game you plan on attending.
