El Arenal Playa De Palma

Nightlife : 4/5Relax : 3/5Convenient to move around Mallorca : 4/5

Another lively area you may consider to stay in Mallorca is called Playa de Palma or El Arenal depending on which side of this long beach youre staying.

In this area, unlike Magaluf, most of the tourists are coming from Germany or Austria so that youre going to find even some signs written in German

El Arenal is a place to stay in Mallorca thats definitely more wide than Magaluf, with a nice promenade in front of the sea and lots of bars, restaurants and discobars.

The nightlife you can find at El Arenal its a bit different than Magaluf, as here you can find german people of any age having fun. You may find guys, families or people in the middle of their 60s partying on the main streets sometimes together, with good quality beers.

If you choose El Arenal to stay in Mallorca keep in mind that nightlife is going to end before Magaluf, around 2 am the place is going to become quiet. This does not mean that youre not going to have fun anyway, as some places here are literally impressive.

A couple places you really cant miss out are MegaPark and BierKönig, two huge buildings half between a disco and a pub, where everybody is singing, dancing drinking and having fun, all with free entry.

If you want to stay at El Arenal, you have a lot of choice because the area is wide. In front you have a long sandy beach with all the services.

A little further down the coast are more caves that you can visit, the Cuevas del Drach and Coves dels Hams. At the Cuevas del Drach the tour takes around an hour along 1200m of level paths, with coloured lights, classical music and a boat tour. Nearby you can make a similar but separate tour of the Coves dels Hams with its main cave and 12 galleries with music and lighting effects. Explore The Beaches In Mondrago Natural Park

Top 10 Places To Visit In Mallorca Spain

I had so many favorite beaches on Mallorca that Ive written an entire blog post detailing my favorites, but Im going to mention the beaches in Mondrago Natural Park here as well because they were my favorite favorites. Like, on our last day on Mallorca, Dan and I drove from the opposite end of the island to this beach just because we loved it so much.

The beach is beautiful, and it also just had a really great vibe. It was busy, but mostly with Spanish people , it has a little shack selling drinks and sandwiches, and since its in a park there are no hotels or resorts by it.

Its hard to pick a highlight as there are so many, from Valldemossa, where George Sand and Frédéric Chopin once stayed, to the lovely hilltop village of Deià, once home to poet Robert Graves, the cliff-top mansion of the Habsburg Archduke Ludwig, and the agreeable town of Sóller. Set Yourself In The Beautiful Palma

Where to stay in Majorca – Mallorca holiday guide

Set around a sheltered bay, Palma is very much a Mediterranean city, with palm trees and bushes of fragrant oleander, outdoor cafés with colourful awnings, and yachts and working vessels bobbing in the bay alongside one another. Palma is a city with a long history, as the Gothic cathedral towering above the city walls indicates as you approach from the airport. Its smart and urbane, with designer boutiques, smart restaurants and chic art galleries hidden in narrow alleys. Come sundown, its a lively city that stays awake long into the night too. The old quarter surrounding the cathedral – Centre Historic on direction signs – sits on a small hill overlooking the bay, and its narrow, atmospheric streets are full of pleasant surprises, making it the best neighbourhood to stay in Majorca. To the east of the centre is the Platja de Palma, a long line of excellent sandy beaches. To the west is the seaside promenade of modern Palma, where luxury hotels look out over a forest of masts in the yacht harbour. Crowning the wooded slopes above the city, where the Spanish royal family have a summer home, are the stone towers of the Bellver Castl.

Vibe: The best of Majorca

While youre there: Head to the Cathedral at night, its spectacular when illuminated at night.

Passeig Maritim is nice – on bus route to airport , one every 15-20 min costs 2 Euros, or to bus station which takes about 10 mins which is less but I can’t rememeber how much exactly.

Its a lovely 20 min walk along the harbour to the old to the old town but also lots of restuarants and bars nearby.

We have stayed at Costa Azul twice and are going again this year, nice 3* but there are 4* nearby if you want more luxury.

Middle Age And Modern History

6 best places to visit in Mallorca

Late Antiquity and Early Middle Ages

In 534, Mallorca was recaptured by the Eastern Roman Empire, led by Apollinarius. Under Roman rule, Christianity thrived and numerous churches were built.

From 707, the island was increasingly attacked by Muslim raiders from North Africa. Recurrent invasions led the islanders to ask Charlemagne for help.

Islamic Mallorca

In 902, Issam al-Khawlani conquered the Balearic Islands, and it became part of the Emirate of Córdoba. The town of Palma was reshaped and expanded, and became known as Medina Mayurqa. Later on, with the Caliphate of Córdoba at its height, the Muslims improved agriculture with irrigation and developed local industries.

The caliphate was dismembered in 1015. Mallorca came under rule by the Taifa of Dénia, and from 1087 to 1114, was an independent Taifa. During that period, the island was visited by Ibn Hazm. However, an expedition of Pisans and Catalans in 111415, led by Ramon Berenguer III, Count of Barcelona, overran the island, laying siege to Palma for eight months. After the city fell, the invaders retreated due to problems in their own lands. They were replaced by the Almoravides from North Africa, who ruled until 1176. The Almoravides were replaced by the Almohad dynasty until 1229. Abu Yahya was the last Moorish leader of Mallorca.

Youll also find small fishing villages, turquoise waters, and surprising historical gems tucked away inland. The main resort area in the south is lively CalaDor. The southwest side of Mallorca is home to flat salt pans and vast white sand beaches.
  • EAST: Mallorcas family-friendly resorts line the east coast, with the biggest being the blockbuster duo Cala Millor and Cala Bona. of resorts around Cala Millor/Cala Bona. There are some delightful hidden hinterlands and a huge number of golf courses.
  • WEST: Capital city Palma is located on the west, in the middle of the busy Bay of Palma. The is the most developed part of Mallorca and home to megaresorts Magaluf, Palmanova and Santa Ponsa.
