Best Hotels To Stay In Downtown Boston

Dont Visit Boston Without Travel Insurance

48 Hours in Boston – Discover the Best Hotels and Things to do in Boston

A lot of people think travel insurance is an unnecessary expense I couldnt disagree more. Travel insurance is vital. Its saved me hundreds of dollars and for a few of my friends who seriously injured themselves abroad, theyve saved hundreds of thousands of dollars.

If your wallet is stolen at a bar, travel insurance will refund you what you lost.

If you slip and break your ankle or get appendicitis while in Boston, travel insurance will cover your medical costs, which could run into the tens of thousands. This is especially vital for people visiting Boston from outside the United States.

If an immediate family member dies while youre halfway across the world, travel insurance will help you get home immediately.

These are unpleasant things to think about, but its so important to be prepared for the worst.

I use and recommend World Nomads Travel Insurance. Theyre a great fit for almost every traveler. Take a look at their policies before you buy to make sure theyre right for you.

The Godfrey Hotel Boston

With a Gothic Revival facade, the boutique Godfrey Hotel is inside a circa 1908 building and has a sophisticated yet relaxed ambiance about it. In the mostly pedestrian Downtown Crossing district in Boston’s heart, it is a great choice if you are looking to do some serious shopping.

The rooms come in a variety of sizes, but all are well-appointed and comfortable. Decor is contemporary, with mostly neutral colors, but pops of brightness appear in chairs and artwork. For fantastic panoramic views book the corner king lofts that are surrounded by windows.

Rooms also feature BOSE Bluetooth speakers, smartphone-to-TV streaming capabilities, and Heely of London bath products. If you are on a health-focused vacay, the Stay Well rooms have lots of extra wellness features.

Amenities here include a restaurant serving Peruvian-Japanese fare, as well as a coffee shop. There is also a fitness center, valet parking, and a 24-hour front desk.

Hotels Near Downtown Boston

Its possible to stay just outside of Boston and get free parking. The Commuter Rail station of Chelsea makes that possible. Only one stop from North station both the nearby Wyndham and Residence Inn offer free parking, or alternatively a free shuttle from the airport. The area is an older industrial / urban neighborhood. The Commuter Rail station is 2.5 blocks, walkable, but it would be better to walk with someone else, and not walk alone at night. The Residence stands out because it offers guests a lift to the station and the airport. However, rates at Residence Inn are often more expensive. On weekdays or weekends expect to pay near $240 for the Residence Inn. Wyndham rates are usually between $135 and $165. Either hotel provides free wifi, breakfast is offered at either hotel, but the Residence Inn provides this with any booking.

Where Not To Stay In Boston

Boston is a very safe city for the most part, but like any other city, there are some neighborhoods worth avoiding. I recommend new visitors to Boston avoid Mattapan, Roxbury, Hyde Park, and some parts of Dorchester like Savin Hill as well as most of East Somerville and the northwest part of Charlestown.

West Roxbury, Roslindale and Milton are nice neighborhoods, but the T doesnt run there, making transit a bit tougher.

Some places require a bit of extra caution at night. Downtown Crossing and the Financial District tend to be deserted at night, so be extra aware of your surroundings at that time. The Back Bay Fens, a big park, is beautiful during the day but turns into a cruising and drug dealing spot after sunset.

Theres no need to stay near the airport. Logan Airport is located in East Boston, but theres a blue line subway stop at the airport and its easy and fast to get there via public transportation or a cab. The neighborhood doesnt have much to offer tourists .

Youll probably want to avoid hotels in the suburbs surrounding Boston. Theyre more built to people who want to drive into Boston each day or take the commuter rail, which doesnt run very often. Some of these suburbs include Woburn, Chelsea, Winthrop, Waltham, and Salem. Some hotels in Newton, Malden, and Revere are close to the T but most of them are not you should double-check on a map.
