Tips For Booking Accommodations In Tahoe
When to Book
Both summer and winter can get pretty packed in Lake Tahoe. That being said, if youre planning a weekend trip during the ski season or the summer, definitely book in advance. However, if you find yourself caught in the middle of trying to plan a last-minute trip, keep an eye out for last-minute deals. You never know what you might be able to score.
Things to Consider When Booking
There are several factors that go into finding the perfect place to stay in Lake Tahoe. For example, if you still want to enjoy modern amenities and service during your stay, a hotel is probably going to make you happiest. However, if youre ok with a more low-key and rural experience, a private cabin is the perfect way to live like a local. We find that a cabin works well with a group of people as we can have a kitchen and space to kick back in together.
Also, your chosen activities should play a huge role in determining where to stay in Lake Tahoe. If you plan on spending a lot of time skiing, be sure that you book accommodations that are within close proximity of your ski resort. For those traveling with kids, the less time you have to spend in the car traveling from excursion to excursion, the better. Though it can get busy, summer visitors should do their best to stay as close to the lake as possible so that you can swim, kayak, paddleboard, and more without traveling too far.

Overall Best Time To Visit Lake Tahoe
Identifying the best time to visit Lake Tahoe is a challenging task. There is something to do year-round. The perfect time to visit depends on what you want to do/experience while youre visiting.
To identify the best time to visit, you can break down Lake Tahoe into two seasons. The summer season is from June through September, and the winter season runs from January through March.
The summer season is the right choice if you want to go hiking, swim in the lake, and enjoy beach time. The summer season has some incredible weather. In June, the weather is regularly in the 70s, but the water is too cold to swim in.
However, its still a great time to chill on the beach or go on a hike. By July and August, the weather has climbed into the 80s, and the lake is warm enough to swim in.
This time of the year also events and festivals. On the flip side, it is more expensive and crowded. If you want to snowshoe, snowboard, or ski, the winter is the best time to visit.
Although it starts snowing in November and December, the Lake Tahoe resorts are covered in snow by January. Forget about artificial snow and enjoy fresh tracks.
The weather in January through March rarely gets above the mid-40s and drops into the teens at night. If you plan on enjoying winter sports, the weather will be much colder at elevation, so pack warm.

Whats The Best Area To Stay In Lake Tahoe
Of course, the best area to stay in Lake Tahoe depends on what activities youre most interested in.
People who know Lake Tahoe sometimes say it has a split personality due to the very different vibes you get on each side of the lake.
The lake is roughly divided west to east by the California/Nevada border, and the north and south side have a very different feeling to them as well.
Generally speaking, South Lake Tahoe is the most developed side and offers the widest range of lodging and food options. South Lake Tahoe is also known for its nightlife.
North Lake Tahoe is quieter than South Lake Tahoe, but still has plenty of excellent dining options and amenities. The north side of the lake is often known as a skiing mecca, with several large resorts.
The east side of Lake Tahoe is the Nevada side. This side of the lake is characterized by high desert , and casinos can be found in most towns.
Finally, the west side of Lake Tahoe is known as the more undeveloped and naturally beautiful side of the lake. Desolation Wilderness is found here, and its also where youll find miles of quiet beachfront.
