Downtown Memphis is the citys Central Business District, located along the Mississippi River.
This neighborhood has the tallest buildings in Memphis, such as 100 North Main, luxury hotels with stunning views of the Mississippi River, and the citys best nightlife.
Downtown Memphis is home to Beale Street, a lively entertainment district ideal for those travelers looking for fun, drinks, live music and, above all, nightclubs.

I Found Memphis To Be An Enjoyable Place To Visit
I found Memphis to be an enjoyable place to visit. We had our Memphis Ribs at The Rendezvous. It was a good experience, the food was good and within several blocks of our hotel. We also went to the Rock and Soul Museum and toured the Peabody hotel. Enjoyed a little of the night life on Beale Street. Never used our car at all for this day. The next day we visited Graceland. Enjoyable couple of days.
Best Area In Which To Stay
planning a memphis trip around mid-april or so.
what would be the best “area” in which to find a hotel? downtown? i’m looking for something that would not require a car. i’d like to check out the local scene at night and don’t want to have to drive. i don’t mind taking a cab or shuttle to other attractions
Downtown is the only area that meets those requirements. Even if you had a car, downtown would still be the best place to stay. Some good hotels downtown are the Madison, Peabody, and Westin Residence Inn, Hampton Inn, and SpringHill Suites and Sleep Inn and Comfort Inn . Sun Studios operates a shuttle that will take you to Graceland and Sun from downtown hotels for free. You can walk to plenty of bars and restaurants downtown.
Downtown is the only area like that. Stay there.
thanks for all the advice and hotel suggestions! this is good stuff to know! 🙂
Another option if your a big Elvis fan is to stay at Graceland for say 2 nights and do everything Elvis then stay the rest of the time downtown that way you get the best of both worlds
Memphis Marriott Downtown a delight
We really enjoyed the Sleep Inn. The trolley stops right outback.
