Best Neighborhood In Porto For Culture

  • COOLEST thing to do in Cedofeita wander around the art galleries of Rua Miguel Bombarda and soak up the creative vibes
  • BEST place to visit in Cedofeita Palácio de Cristal is home to some gorgeous gardens where you can enjoy a romantic stroll

Cedofeita is, simply put, one of the trendiest parts of the city and a popular choice with the young hipster crowd visiting Porto! It is home to independent art galleries, creative boutiques and modern restaurants offering innovative cuisine. Thanks to this, it is the best neighborhood in the city to experience modern culture.

In the evenings, Cedofeita also bursts into life as a major clubbing and bar hopping hotspot! If you want something a bit more local, and certainly cheaper, than Ribeira then this is a good choice. Despite its trendy reputation, Cedofeita is still one of the cheapest neighborhoods in the city centre.

  • Head to Rua Tapas & Music Bar a popular tapas restaurant in the evenings, it transforms into a live music venue later in the night
  • Catraio is another great nightlife option offering great prices on craft beer to sit in with or take home to enjoy
  • The Church of Cedofeita is the oldest church in Porto dating back to the 9th century, it is a major historic attraction

Why Stay In Foz

Foz is the most ocidental neighborhood in Porto, located on the west side of Ribeira. As the city grew in circles around the cathedral, Foz was one of the last neighborhoods to be inhabited. It used to be a fishermen village, and people from Porto used to go there only during Summer. So in Foz you can still find beautiful mansions and fishermen houses that are just lovely. In Foz you can find the best beaches in Porto, as well as a big promenade that gets full of people jogging or simply walking on warmer days. There is also a nice garden called Jardim do Passeio Alegre, that has a mini golf.A lot of people will tell you not to stay in Foz because it is not in the city centre nor near any important city attraction. But I think it really depends on what you are looking for on your trip to Porto. If you wish to spend some relaxed days by the beach, and not surrounded by tourists, then Foz might the the right place for you.

Foz is the best neighborhood in Porto for people who want to spend the days by the beach.

What is the catch?

Foz is indeed a bit far away from the city centre , so if you want to visit monuments or stay close to the nightlife district, this might not be the best neighborhood for you.

Baixa is the main neighborhood in Porto and where you will find most of the life during the day! Baixa is Portuguese for low, and the relatively flat nature of this neighborhood is a great break away from the infamous hills surrounding it.

Baixa / S Best Area To Stay In Porto For Sightseeing

Baixa, Porto or , is the Downtown area of the city and where you will find most of the attractions Porto has to offer. Interestingly, it is right next to Cedofeita and sits above Riberia, highlighting just how close together everything is.

Unfortunately, you wont have the same river views as some of the other neighbourhoods in the city. But this is still one of the best neighbourhoods to stay in Porto with its own unique views of all the landmarks.

I recommend taking a look at the insanely beautiful metro station, which is not only amazing to take photos of, but also means you can get anywhere in Porto with relative ease. The Rua das Flores is another must-see with its stunning façades.

If you love history and want to find some classic hotels to stay in, Baixa has these in spades. There are even a few historical mansions that have been transformed into hotels.

Dont get lost, though these streets are a bit of a labyrinth filled with classic buildings, home to cafes and little boutique stores. Staying in a Porto lodging here really puts you in the middle of everything.
