Mestre Best Option To Stay Close To Venice On A Budget

Mestre is Venices mainland town connected by the Liberty Bridge. While it may not immediately come to mind when looking for places to stay in Venice, Mestre offers a kind of crossroads glimpse into what travelers approaching Venice for the first time must have felt.

The Torre Civica di Mestre, also known as the Torre dellOrologio, dates back to the 13th century, with its current clock implemented in the 16th century.

Here guests can take in the city and lagoon from a birds eye advantage, then stroll the Piazza Ferretto, which offers a wide variety of shopping, sightseeing, and dining options.

The Duomo di Mestre, also called the Church of San Lorenzo, is famed for its frescoes while the Chiesa di San Girolamo, built in 1261, features rare Istrian limestone.

San Giuliano Park offers an idyllic reprieve from the tourist bustle, with an abundance of space to picnic, hike, and even take in a local concert.

Boating is a much-loved pastime in Mestre, with activities such as sailing, touring, and gondola races on offer year-round.

Where To Stay In Venice With Car

  • near Piazzale Roma the closest point to the tourist attractions
  • Mestre the mainland of Venice

Mestre is the mainland of Venice. Youll find a lot of affordable parking options, 2-3 times cheaper than the ones at Piazzale Roma.

However, the biggest disadvantage is that you have to spend extra time to get to the heart of Venezia. Its about 15-20min to Piazzale Roma and from there about a 20-30min walk to the main attractions. And this time doesnt include getting to the bus stop and waiting for public transport. The hotels are a lot cheaper, however, there are fewer options in comparison to the island of Venezia.

Best Neighborhood To Stay In

Where to stay in Venice: Best Areas to Stay in Venice, Italy

We are coming to Venice for the first time in late June and are looking for a good neighborhood to stay in. We want to be close to everything, but would like it to be quiet at night so we can get good rest. We don’t want to spend more than $200/night and want to be close to all the good restaurants. We are only there for 2 nights. Thanks!

you might try the Dorsoduro neighborhood….. 2 nights is really only 1-1.5 days so advise reading up in your guidebook and creating a little plan of what you’d like to see , as well as letting there be time to wander the canals ….Venice is very alluring, so let yourself get off the tourist trodden paths.

Venice is not big, so not too important where you stay, I think all areas have their own charms, San Marco is the main area for sight seeing although there are thIngs of places of in most are areas, have a look at the Hotels at your budget, and see what you think appeals,

To get an idea look www.booking.com or www.hotels.com and go from there,

If you plan on visiting any of the other islands, you should get a water bus pass, otherwise it’s 7.50 Euro p/ride.

Concentrate on the quality of your accommodation as I don’t really know a bad district in Venice! It’s a walkable city and a 45 – 60 minute walk nearly gets you everywhere.

Castello, Cannareggio and as suggested Dorsoduro are all viable options.

As sophie says, the historic centre of Venice is compact, so nowhere is far away from the ‘attractions’ .

Best Hotel In Cannaregio: Foscari Palace

This enchanting four-star hotel is ideally located for exploring the city. It is close to a variety of tourist attractions and historic landmarks, as well as restaurants, boutiques and bars. Rooms come complete with air conditioning, spa baths, and a variety of essential amenities. It has a restaurant, lounge bar, and a rooftop terrace.

Why Stay In Castello

Just east of San Marco and with easy access to Cannaregio, you can enjoy the best of both worlds in this quaint little area. The tourists are outnumbered here and it has primarily remained a local area.

There is an overwhelming amount of luxurious accommodation to be had here and you can walk to the majority of Venices attractions or take the boats to nearby islands.

Very much a place overflowing with local pizzerias and tiny cafes, staying here offers an off-the-beaten-track vibe while still being very much in the centre of the city. Choose a gelato and wander the side streets for an authentic experience.

Best Apartments In Venice Center

Its true, Venice has countless amazing hotels that you can choose from, but the prices are not that affordable, especially if you want to be in the middle of the action. Sometimes, booking an apartment instead of a hotel might be an excellent solution to save some money! But this is not the only reason for which Im recommending this: apartments offer a local, cozier atmosphere than most hotels and some of them are spacious enough to fit a bigger group in the same spot. Perfect, right?

Luckily for us, there are many excellent Airbnb choices in Venice. Below I have selected the best ones I could for you, all of them located in central Venice:

Dorsoduro Is Where To Stay In Venice For Art

If youre looking for where to stay in Venice for art-lovers, Dorsoduro is the district for you! It is here in Dorsoduro that the Accademia, Venices most famous art gallery, is located. The Church of San Sebastiano holds paintings by Veronese, Tintoretto, and Titian, while the Peggy Guggenheim Collection has famed collections of modern art by artists such as Dali, Duchamp, Picasso, and Mondrian.

But Dorsoduro has lots more to offer than just wonderful art collections. It is a centrally-located, yet vibrant neighborhood, with a laid-back atmosphere in the daytime. At night, however, the district is probably the best for a happening nightlife. Another fun part about Dorsoduro is that the island of Giudecca is included in the Dorsoduro sestiere.

Upsides: It has Venices best nightlife and most famous art gallery. It still has a local, authentic feel. It is near the Grand Canal.

Downsides: Not super close to the Rialto Bridge and St. Marks Basilica. But really not a lot of downsides!

How Far Is Mestre From Venice City

Top 5 Neighborhoods in Venice, Florida

Mestre is very well connected to Venezia by regular trams and buses. There is even a night bus. Yet, keep in mind that youll need probably about 40-60min to get to the major tourist attractions.

Mestre is not a great option to stay if you have more than one day in Venice. Id recommend paying more for a hotel on the island and dont waste so much time in transportation.

Comfy hotel right next to Mestre train station. An ideal location for travelling to Venice and the airport. The bus station is right outside the hotel. Thus, you can reach Piazzale Roma in less than 15min. Easy access by car, as the highway exit is not far.Why book convenient location next to Mestre train station, restaurant, public parking nearby

Best Western Tritone is one of the best hotels in Mestre. Its practically located across the street from Mestre train station. Plus, there is a private parking lot next to the hotel. Why book next to Mestre train station, private parking nearby, 24-hour front desk, good breakfast

Think About What Kind Of Vacation You Want

Do you prefer staying in a quiet area or in a busy one?Venice is small, but you can walk for hours if you dont know the city very well, so maybe you would like to be able to rest back in your hotel, instead of having people talking outside till late. Some areas in Venice are famous for their traditional bacari and others, like the one where our hotel is, are known for being silent and off the beaten path.

If you dont care about the noise, you should probably opt for a place like Rialto, where the nightlife is always bustling. On the other hand, if you prefer going to bed early to enjoy the day after exploring the city, the district of Cannaregio is definitely better, except for Fondamenta della Misericordia, where Venetians love to spend the night drinking wine or spritz.

Giudecca: Most Peaceful Area To Stay In Venice

Separated from the main island by the namesake canal, Giudecca seems a world away from Venices overcrowded central quarters.

The island of Giudecca is located on the far south edge of Venice, from which its separated by the Giudecca Canal.

This quiet island used to be one of the main industrial districts in the city before WWII. Today, Giudecca is largely residential and a resort town known for its long dock and its churches, including Chiesa del Santissimo Redentore.

There are no bridges between Giudecca and the rest of the city, so the main mean of transportation to get around is the vaporetto. While this can be a huge inconvenience for some visitors, its relative isolation makes it the best area to stay in Venice for those looking for peace and quiet away from the thousands of tourists swarming the centremost districts of the city.

Castello Most Unique Venice Neighborhood

Dating back to the 13th century, Castello is the citys largest sestieri that grew up around a naval dockyard. Youll see nonnas from their balcony spying on the neighbors or kids kicking around soccer balls in the piazza, called campi in Venice.

The western part of the neighborhood feels more touristy, as it borders San Marco. But the eastern edge teems with thrift shops, bars, and specialty food stores selling dried meats and artisanal cheeses. Keep in mind if you stay in the heart of Castello, it can take 10-20 minutes to walk to some of the most popular attractions in town.
