Overall, its not the most inspiring of areas, except around .
This part of the neighborhood has good dining options and a few boutiques. Its also close to both Wieden and Mariahilf.
That said, its a well-connected inner district, and a good option if youre on a budget.

Innere Stadt Where To Stay In Vienna For First Time
Innere Stadt holds the honor of being District 1 with good reason. Central Vienna was the entire city limits until just over a hundred fifty years ago. Encircled by the famed Ringstrasse, the district is safeguarded as one of UNESCOs World Heritage Sites.
While you might walk in under an hour from one corner to the other, the sites, scenes, cafes, bars, restaurants, and cobblestone streets could fill your time for literally weeks.
For anyone who has never been to Vienna before, this is the ideal place to stay in Vienna and visit to see all of the most important tourist attractions and sites the incredible city has to offer.
As the center of the Austrian capital, the Innere Stadt remains the original Old Town of classical Vienna. The center was formerly divided up itself into another four quarters named for the nearest gates of the city Schottenviertel , Stubenviertel , Widmerviertel and Kärntner Viertel .
The citys most famous boulevard is the Ringstraße. It follows the former city walls route around the old town, encircling the Innere Stadt.

Baroque masterpiece of Johann Bernhard Fisher von Erlach, inspired by Trajans column and St Peter in Rome, in the care of the Knights of the Cross with the Red Star, a military religious order dating back to 1233. Exceptionally, attending a concert there is a unique way to see the inside, which is otherwise only possible for a fee. Think about it, youll thank me at the end of the day!

Now direct your steps and gaze towards the two Art Nouveau/Jugendstil Pavilions, designed by Otto Wagner in the 1890s to provide access to Viennas newly built metro line. You will see the characteristic green metalwork and stylized golden flowers at several other metro stations across the city, especially on the U4 line, but the Karlsplatz Pavilions and their location just outside the former medieval walls are representative for the transformations Vienna was undergoing at the time.
Quite fittingly, your next stop is the Secession building, another Viennese Art Nouveau masterpiece. Built under the motto to each era its art to art its freedom and home to the Association of Visual Artists, it is the citys oldest independent exhibition space. It houses Klimts famous Beethoven Frieze, an artistic commentary on the ninth symphony.

Certainly, youll have to walk or take public transit more than if you were in Vienna One, but youll also be able to find more budget-friendly accommodation options.
For example, depending on your dates, I found Austria Trend Hotel Doppio Wien for as cheap as US $68 , along with some other highly-rated 4-stars in the same price range .
You can also search Booking.com by district by using the refine results options on the left-hand menu. .
Of course, the closer you stay to the most central and desirable neighborhoods, the more youre going to pay. In Vienna, you can count on the First District/Innere Stadt being the most expensive address in the city, with prices decreasing the further out you go.
If being central is important, you can do pretty well at Pension Dr. Geissler, with rates starting around 65.00 per night .
Hotel Kaffeemühle is another option to look at, located in Vienna 7 .
Finally, you can also filter Booking.com search results by price per night, such as $0 to $52 per night, which yielded 45 properties when I searched.
What I would suggest doing is first filter by price, then arrange the results by average review, so you get the best-of-the-best properties to choose from within your price range!
