University City A Good Neighborhood To Stay In Philly
University City is an area where you can find good accommodation in Philadelphia, despite its being a bit isolated. It is on the other side of the Schuylkill River, which is one of my favorite walks in Philadelphia.
Two of the most distinguished universities in the US are in this area: the University of Pennsylvania and Drexel University. Its a very popular area among students but not among tourists. Of course, its a good place to stay in Philly for nightlife.
However, it isnt an area I usually recommend, since there are not many hotel on offer. But if you cant find another place to stay in Philadelphia that fits your budget, University City can be a good alternative, especially for long stays. In this case, you will need to use public transport to get to the center city if you dont want to have to walk for more than 40 minutes.

Rittenhouse Square Where To Stay In Philadelphia For Shopping
Named for both the public park and surrounding neighborhood, Rittenhouse Square is one of the most in-demand areas to live and stay in Philadelphia thanks to its impossibly pretty setting and plentitude of shopping and restaurant options.
One of the five original squares designed by city founder William Penn in the late 17th century, Rittenhouse Square offers a rare and relatively serene glimpse into life in old Philadelphia.
Visitors can stroll the stately streets and inner park, admire the elegant architecture, and satiate their appetite at one of the many pubs, cafes, and fine bistro-style eateries before taking in some of the best shopping in the city.
Book lovers will definitely want to stop by the The Rosenbach Museum to take a tour and view the museums collection of almost 400,000 rare books, manuscripts, and pieces of art.
Due to its popularity and high-end appeal, lodging options in and around Rittenhouse Square can be costly but truly magnificent. Boutique hotels abound, as well as upscale converted historic establishments.

Fishtown/northern Liberties Stay For An Authentic Experience

Fishtown and Northern Liberties neighborhoods, located north of the downtown along the Delaware River, are much different from the city center. Getting around wont take you much time since these Philly districts are quite compact. Once low-key neighborhoods, they became cool places offering diverse nightlife and dining options at all kinds of international restaurants. Go to local clubs to dance and affordable bars to have Irish drinks and other booze.
Speaking of Fishtown and Northern Liberties tourist highlights, I suggest you visit Penn Treaty Park by the river and former home of celebrated writer Edgar Allan Poe. Few-story buildings made of brick, community gardens, and a diverse mix of people walking the streets testify of its former glory.
