First Time To Chicago

We are visiting Chicago in May and plan to stay 4 nights. What is the best area to stay in to visit the local sites. Thank you.

Depending on what you want to see and do, downtown , Michigan Avenue or River North are the best choices. Not so coincidentally, this is where most of the hotels are.

The main transit “corridors” in these areas are along State Street and Michigan Avenue . There are buses along most of the major streets throughout the city, but not all go to the museum campus, home to the Field, Shedd and Adler. If you haven’t found it yet, the Chicago tourism website, www.choosechicago.com, has lots of information for visitors including a section on the top attractions.

Thank you for your advice. I will read up on the areas you have suggested. We like to explore on foot as much as possible and are interest in Art Galleries, historical sites good dining options. Thanks again

We are planning on staying in Chicago in May 2013.

Wrigleyville And Southport Corridor

After the Cubs won the 2016 World Series, Wrigleyville has been undergoing an impressive overhaul, bringing with it multitudes of new restaurants, bars, shops, and hotels that are quickly changing what city dwellers once thought of the area . Meanwhile, Southport Corridor only continues to grow cooler, thanks to the arrivals of on-trend retailers and lively eateries.

Where to stay: You cant get any closer to the action than with a stay at Hotel Zachary, a 173-room boutique hotel located directly across from Wrigley Field. Cubs fan or not, expect a memorable stay thanks to striking mid-century modern interiors and generously sized rooms. Opt for an east-facing one for views of the park and adjacent Gallagher Way . Dine at The Bar at Hotel Zachary, where a menu of light bites accompanies a fleet of classic cocktails.

Things to do: Find plenty of adventure beyond the ballpark here, starting with the shops of Southport Avenue, home to a medley of big-box names and boutiques alike . Come evening, check out a screening at The Music Box, a historic theatre that hosts a roster of indie and foreign films. Keep an eye on the calendar at Uncommon Ground, too, a coffeeshop-come-concert venue that spotlights local and touring up-and-comers.

The Loop, also known as Chicago Central Business District or Downtown Chicago, is an inner-city neighborhood well-worth a visit and maybe a stay. Densely packed with government buildings, great hotels and fantastic restaurants, accommodations here will place you in the middle of the action. Stay a few blocks away in West Loop, where many of the city’s Michelin-starred dining spots maintain acclaim year after year. Chicago Loop: Right In The Center

Amidst the majestic skyscrapers and the greenery of Millennium Park and Grant Park, there are several, expensive hotels, being in the middle of the Loop and a few blocks from the Magnificent Mile , but that guarantee you a stay with all the comforts.

The Loop is indeed the historical and economic center of the city of Chicago, with its countless clubs and entertainment opportunities, but its charm is due to the exceptional skyline, which includes the Sears Tower, the tallest skyscraper in America, and the particular-looking Aqua Tower.

Accessibility to public transport is well organized, of course, allowing you to move around the area easily and visit the Museum of Fine Arts, the Hancock Observatory, or admire the sculpture called The Chicago Picasso, made by the master of cubism in the Loop. Here are some tips on where to stay in the area:

Safe Places To Stay In Chicago

Chicago has a pretty bad reputation for crime, and the statistics swing wildly from season to season and year to year. Many people worry about visiting Chicago due to highly publicized crime rates. The truth is, Chicago crime is largely concentrated in dangerous neighborhoods where tourists rarely venture, and they are not generally random crimes against travelers. The areas Ive listed here are some of the safest places to stay in Chicago. As with any big city, you must take the usual precautions as you would anywhere. Keep your wits about you, dont be stumbling around alone and drunk at 2 am, and dont flash expensive jewelry or wads of cash around. If you see trouble brewing, cross the street and dont engage with anyone. The Chicago neighborhoods to avoid are generally on the South and West sides, and those areas offer few hotels. I do recommend visiting Chicagos Chinatown and the historic Pullman District, but I dont recommend staying in those neighborhoods.
