Where To Stay In Gran Canaria
Gran Canaria is known by many as a “Miniature Continent”, due to its diverse climate and landscape, which varies depending on where exactly you are on the island. You can go from the endless dunes of Maspalomas to the busy capital of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria in just under an hour, for a completely different image of the island and a totally different vibe.
Gran Canaria is large enough that you can stay for weeks and even months and still discover new places to go and see, but it’s still small enough that you can easily get around by bus or by car without spending so much time on the road. For beach lovers, you have some amazing hidden gems like Playa de Guigui and also fully developed beaches, with all the facilities, like Playa Amadores.
Most of the resorts in Gran Canaria are situated in the south of the island, where the weather is constantly good all year round and you can make the most of this island’s subtropical climate.
The north and center of the island do gen a bit more hours of rain, but they are more green and vibrant and offer more hiking opportunities, so it depends on what you are looking for from your holiday.
Puerto De Mogn Charming Fishing Village
Puerto de Mogán is lovingly referred to as Gran Canarias Little Venice. It has achieved this nickname because of the many canals in town that provide a link from the harbor to the marina.
The town is still a working fishing village with a great deal of charming narrow streets, complete with authentic character and color.
It is easy to find a restaurant here with a romantic view of the marina to enjoy for a lunch or dinner with incredible views of the marina. On Friday, Puerto del Mogán has its own renowned market that offers traditional Canary Islands souvenirs.
This is an excellent place from which to start or finish a hike as many of the islands most beloved trails begin close by the town.
It does not offer as much in the way of accommodation, but the town Puerto de Mogán makes an excellent day trip or an inviting end of day stop after an invigorating hike.

San Agustn For A Quiet Holiday
Just a short drive from both Maspalomas and Playa del Ingles, you will reach San Agustin, the best holiday choice if you want to relax and escape the big crowds on the island. This town has much calmer and quieter beach, with unique, darkly colored sand.
Here you will not struggle to find an empty spot, as it provides plenty of room both for tourists and locals. Since the beach is very well protected from the waves, its one of the best places for scuba diving and snorkelling. Along the promenade, you will also find a wide selection of bars, cafes and seafood restaurants.

The village of La Aldea de San Nicolás is one of the least populated and most charming municipalities of Gran Canaria, very close to the spectacular beaches of Güigüi and several little-known enclaves that many Canarians do not even know as Tasarte, Tasartico and Veneguera. In addition, in the town of San Nicolás you will perceive the happiness and relax of those who live far from the big cities. In La Aldea you will have sea and mountains as much as you wish.

A Surprising And Different Stay In Gran Canaria Las Palmas
Las Palmas is rarely mentioned as a destination to stay in Gran Canaria, I guess, mostly because of its city feeling.
But, in some respect, I find Las Palmas quite underrated, especially if you are after a long stay on the island.
The beach on the west side of the city, Playa de Las Canteras, is actually a beautiful one, with the possibility to practice also some surfing too.
Internet speed has increased consistently in the last few years making Las Palmas one of the new nomad destinations in the world.
This city is also well renowned with Scandinavians that spend the European winter here avoiding the freezing temperatures of Northern Europe.
I find Las Palmas a great spot to stay long term, a few weeks or even a season. It has all the city facilities with a great holiday vibe.
Meloneras For The Hotel Experience

Gran Canaria puts on its glad rags at Meloneras its line of seafront hotels are the newest and smartest on the island and you even splash out on a villa right by the promenade. Meloneras’ hotels know how to look after their guests and you’re just a few paces from the bars and restaurants on the boulevard.
There is more to Meloneras than hotels. The west end of the resort has a great set of smart villas and bungalows.
Choose Meloneras for a posh hotel holiday where you can just relax.

San Bartolom De Tirajana
San Bartolomé de Tirajana is a small village and municipality in the southeast of the island of Gran Canaria.
The small historic town of San Bartolomé de Tirajana is also the administrative centre of the coastal regions of Maspalomas and Playa del Inglés, which makes this municipality the largest in Gran Canaria.
This region is known for its fruit plantations and local liqueurs. Some of San Bartolomés specialties include Chilli, a cherry liqueur, and Mejunje, a blend of honey, rum, and lemon.
San Bartolomé is also a excellent destination for wine lovers. This inland area is one of the most important wine producing regions in Gran Canaria. The main wineries around San Bartolomé de Tirajana include those of Las Tirajanas, Tunte and La Tabaibilla.
Many of the Caminos Reales pass through this area. These ancient routes were the only way to get around the centre of Gran Canaria during pre-Hispanic times. In recent years, many of them have been restored and reopened to hikers in order to promote eco-tourism. Thanks to its Caminos Reales, San Bartolomé is the best area to stay in Gran Canaria if you like hiking and nature.
The charming mountain villages that make up this area are the ideal starting point to discover impressive natural wonders such as the Mirador de Cruz Grande, the Roque Nublo, the Pico de las Nieves or the Caldera de los Marteles.
The accommodation in this inland area consists mainly of charming mountain villas and rural houses and hotels.
