Options To Extend Your Ireland Itineraryfrom 7 To 10 Days

While I think that the above 7 day Ireland itinerary is perfect for a good sampling of what Ireland has to offer, you certainly dont have to do what I did and there is a lot more to explore on your Ireland road trip if you want to craft your own adventure.

If you have a little more time for a 10 day Ireland itinerary, other popular destinations in Ireland include:

  • Doolin and The Aran Islands A tiny village near the Cliffs of Moher, Doolin was one of my favorite places in Ireland. You can hike the cliffs from here, or use it as a base for visiting the Aran Islands, windswept islands off the coast where you can get around by pony cart.
  • Belfast, Northern Ireland Take a detour up to Northern Ireland. Known as the home of the Titanic , Belfast can be used as a base to visit many Game of Thrones filming locations, as well as the beautiful Giants Causeway. Foodies will also love the many excellent Belfast restaurants to choose from.
  • Cork A relatively large city by Irish standards, Cork sits along a gorgeous waterfront. From here, you can take a day trip to kiss the Blarney Stone at Blarney Castle.

Best Areas And Handpicked Hotels For Dublin

As mentioned, the city center of Dublin is the perfect place for first-time visitors.

I also understand that different travel styles match different needs. I created an overview of this.

Best Places To Visit In Ireland For History & Culture

The tumultuous past of this small nation is no secret. Raiders from Scandinavia left their mark for centuries to follow. Even to this day, there are unmistakable traces of Viking architecture and enduring lines of Nordic family heritage throughout Ireland.

After the Vikings came centuries of conflict with invading forces from Britain, which continued until the end of the last century, shaping much of modern Ireland. Northern Ireland was once a violent warzone that had the undesirable status as one of the most dangerous places in the world for a British soldier to be during the 1970s and 1980s.

However, throughout it all, the strong will of the Irish people and the enthralling Gaelic culture has endured. Music, art, literature and Celtic mythology all retained their place, inextricably tied to the roots of the Emerald Isle.

To explore all of the sites in Ireland and understand the full history would take a lifetime. Hit up each of these spots and you can be guaranteed to grasp the unique combination of magic and mayhem that makes Ireland so special.

Hfn Where To Stay In Iceland Near The Glacier Lagoon

Höfn is a fishing town along the Southeast coast of Iceland, and is the nearest sizable town to find overnight accommodation close to Icelands largest glacier, Vatnajökull, as well as the Jokulsarlon Glacier Lagoon and Skaftatell National Park. You may be able to find lodging closer to these destinations, but Höfn is a good central location for exploring this region for a couple of days or more. This is also a great spot for glacier hiking, which is fairly popular in Iceland due to all the glaciers.

Be The King Of Your Castle Literally

Youll find this castle a handy 25-minute drive from Galway City.

Built some time during the 1400s, the castle has been refurbished in the last decade, and comprises of a master bedroom upstairs, with access to the turret, a living room, dining room, and two guest bedrooms

Its mad to think that you can call home for a couple of nights from just 130 quid.

Heres what Peter, the host, says about this incredible place:

What to expect: lots of winding staircases, a castle that has been lovingly restored, but there are some cobwebs, and it gives you the real Irish castle experience. Its not pristine, its not perfect, but its a real castle.

Welcome to Conroys Old Bar in County Tipperary.

Now, while Conroys is arguably the most unique place to stay in Ireland, and yes, its packed with charm and character, the one thing that it doesnt come equipped with is a fully stocked and functioning bar.

Referred to locally as The Pub With No Beer, the premises no longer holds a licence for selling alcohol.

Situated in a sleepy little village in north Tipperary, close to Lough Derg and the River Shannon, its well off the beaten track perfect for those looking to escape city life for a couple of nights.

When To Visit Ireland

The other thing to consider before you finalize your plans is what time of year you are visiting. In the summer months most day tours will be running. In the off-season, there may be a reduction in how frequently a tour is offered and it may be on weekends only.

Ive visited Ireland in both late-April and early-October and enjoyed the weather. It is a little bit cooler and there is rain but that is to be expected in Ireland. Pack a raincoat, umbrella, and waterproof shoes and it should be a good time.
