Summer is no less popular, with holidaymakers flocking to the region for hiking and mountain excursions and to admire the stunning scenery.

You can expect heavy snowfall and cold conditions during winter. The mercury tends to stay below zero degrees celsius during the ski season, but things do warm up a little from March onwards.

Summer

So whats the Jungfrau weather like during the warmer seasons? While the highest reaches of the mountains are cooler and may stay snow-capped all year round, the towns are a lot more pleasantly warm during the Swiss summer.

Meiringen: Reichenbach Falls & Aare Gorge

Meiringen has a place in both culinary and literary history. It is believed that meringues were invented here by an Italian chef in the late 17th century. But it is the fame of neighboring Reichenbach Falls that brings lovers of Sherlock Holmes stories to Meiringen.

The site where Sir Arthur Conan Doyle chose for the death of his main character has become a pilgrimage site for mystery fans there’s even a plaque at the very spot from which he was pushed into the rushing waters. A funicular takes visitors to the spot, and the adventuresome can climb the path to the top of the falls. The town itself has a Sherlock Holmes Museum and a bronze statue of the detective in his deerstalker hat, smoking his pipe.

As dramatic as Reichenbach Falls is the Aare Gorge , also just outside Meiringen. Carved in the limestone by meltwater from the Aare Glacier, the gorge is accessible by a trail, wooden walkways, and tunnels through the rock walls.

Haslital Region A Hidden Gem Of Berner Oberland

Jungfrau Region Where To Stay

I have to be honest with you, in all those years and so many trips in Switzerland, we had never even heard of the Haslital region or the Meiringen Hasliberg ski area. We passed Meiringen quite a few times, on our way to the famous Three Passes but never even stopped here

When the kind people from the Jungfrau Region Tourism told us that Haslital is an amazing Swiss mountain destination for families, we were intrigued and curious to see what wed find there.

We spent just a very short time in Haslital but absolutely loved it. This area has such a great local feel. Best Place To Stay With Jungfrau Views

I spent 3 days in the Jungfrau region, and thoroughly enjoyed my time in Hotel Jungfrau – ask for the Mountain View rooms and Jungfrau, Eiger and Mönch are right before your eyes from your room. I wanted to just stay in and watch the view! Mark is very friendly and helpful, and made the stay very pleasant. Murren is the best place to stay in the region, although you have to travel to and fro on a different tram route, its quiet and the mountain views are stunning. Later on when I paid to go up Jungfrau, the fog was so thick I couldnt see anything at all, but I was not that disappointed since I enjoyed the view throughout my stay except on the one day when the weather was bad. Excellent location and hotel!More
