Best Place To Stay In Keystone For Skiing

Blue Runs For Intermediates

5 REASONS TO LOVE KEYSTONE COLORADO | Family Skiing | Underrated Ski Town | Ski Trip

Now if you are not a beginner skier or if you are learning to snowboard as a teen or adult, Keystone is great. My two teenage daughters loved learning to snowboard at Keystone because Schoolmarm does have some steeper sections, which actually helps when you are learning to snowboard.

If youre confident riding blue runs, then you will love the wide variety of rolling blue terrain Keystone offers. If you are capable of riding this slightly more difficult terrain, youll find that Keystone can often be uncrowded.

Once you are at the top of the gondola, you can take the Outpost Lift and access North Peak that has a lot of blue and black runs that are rarely crowded.

Tip: Alcohol doesnt start pouring until 11am so its worth it to get on the mountain early before some riders become a little intoxicated.

Kidtopia Headquarters And Child Care Services

Another reason Keystone Ski Resort is the best ski resort in Colorado for families is their child care services. Kids ages 2 months to 6 years old can be dropped off for babysitting from 8:30AM-4:00PM. This allows parents with kids too young to ski or who arent interested to enjoy the slopes worry-free. The child care is inside Kidtopia Headquarters located right outside of Keystone Village making drop off before skiing very convenient. There are multiple play rooms so not to worry, your kids will not be bored.

Keystone Resort With Kids: Getting To Keystone Resort

If you are flying, get as early a flight into Denver International Airport as you can to avoid any winter-weather related delays that can occur later in the day. We have always had great luck flying with Frontier and Southwest coming from Texas.

We also prefer to take the Colorado Mountain Express from the airport out to Keystone Resort. When we ski, we typically dont need a car to get around. And Keystone Resort has a terrific bus system that is free and reliable as in buses every 15 mins. The Colorado Mountain Express is an inexpensive way to get to the Resort on a clean & comfortable bus. And they offer free wifi, which makes my kids happy.

As a tip, if you are heading back to the airport on a Sunday, make sure to leave plenty of time to get back into Denver. The traffic heading down I-70 was very heavy and took twice as long to get back as it did to drive up to Keystone.

The Ultimate Guide To Keystone Resort With Kids

December 29, 2017 by Rebecca Darling

Last season, we took a 5 day ski trip at Keystone Resort with the family. We tried as much as we could while we were there skiing, ice skating, tubing and more. Heres everything you need to know about a ski trip to Keystone Resort the Ultimate Guide to Keystone Resort with Kids.

These Texans love to ski. Its a shame we like living in Texas so much, or we would be in Colorado in a heartbeat. Its no wonder that every fall we start planning our annual ski trip, book the flights and then count down the days until we hit the slopes.

While in Keystone Resort a few years ago for an adult-ski trip, we saw how fantastic a resort it was for families and were determined to take our kids back. Last year, we were able to take our two boys, 7 and 14, and had such a great time. Having been here twice now, we were able to experience a great deal beyond just skiing the fun winter activities, the kids experience, and lots of great dining enough to put together this guide for any family visiting Keystone Resort.

Keystone Resort With Kids: Why Keystone Resort

Best Places To Visit In Breckenridge

We prefer to ski in Colorado as the snow is always reliable, plus we feel there is a great deal of variety of runs to satisfy all our families skiing levels. We also really like the fact that Keystone Resort is only 90 minutes from the Denver International Airport, making it the closest ski resort to get to. Keystone Resort has 131 ski runs covering 3 peaks and 5 bowls.

We chose a family trip to Keystone Resort because of how family friendly we knew the Resort was. They have an amazing ski school program and lots of different activities for kids to do with their Kidtopia programming, which I will get into more detail later.

Kids Ski Free At Keystone Ski Resort

Yes you read that correctly! If you are staying at any of Keystones Resort Lodging for at least two nights your kids 12 and under ski free for one day. Each additional night booked equals an additional day of skiing. This does not include lessons at Keystone Ski School but if your kids are comfortable on the slopes this is a great savings.

I am not sure if they enforce this as we have younger children, but one thing to be conscious of if your child is older between 10-12 is they may ask for proof of age to participate in their kids ski free program. A passport or birth certificate will work. Also, to claim your kids ski free lift passes you must have proof of lodging with a room key.

How to Plan Your Ski Trip to Colorado!!

When choosing a place to stay, we recommend staying close to the ski lifts, in either River Run or Mountain House. If you are skiing with kids, this is a must as you will be hauling all their ski equipment as well as your own to & from the lifts each day. We have stayed in both the town homes and condos at the Red Hawk Lodge in River Run and both were great. Both had terrific character, lots of space and full kitchens. Also, look into Keystone Resort for lodging as their Kids Ski Free program is terrific. All kids 12 and under received free ski lift tickets when 2 or more nights are booked with Keystone Lodging. That is a terrific savings. And with over 100,000 free lift tickets given to kids since the programs inception in 2012, Keystone Resort is helping to create a whole new generation of skiers, making it more affordable for families to take a ski vacation.

We also really like staying in River Run, as the Gondola is right there and there are lots of terrific restaurants. There is also a mini-mart to pick up breakfast items, coffee, milk, and snacks.

Best Town Apres Ski & Lifestyle: Breckenridge

Breckenridges town, apres ski, and general lifestyle is unequivocally better than Keystones. And its not even close. Breck is a real town that people live, work, and play in all year long. This creates a totally different community vibe than what you experience at Keystone.

A trip to Breckenridge is a trip to a quintessential Colorado mining town that grew into a world-class winter destination. Theres a ton of charm thats totally different from what youll find at any of the countrys purpose-built ski resorts. One look at the citys numerous historic Victorian-era buildings and youll know what we mean.

Dining and shopping in Breckenridge range from super casual on the low end to quite lavish on the high end. Youve got a sea of options and you really dont have think twice about whether or not youll find something up your alley.

A good representation of Brecks liveliness comes every year during the towns famous Ullr Fest. Its essentially a giant party celebrating the norse god of snow.

On the other hand, Keystone does have places to unwind at the end of the day, but its nowhere close to being enough for travelers who want a true apres ski atmosphere. Many people staying at Keystone drive somewhere else in the evenings to eat and play.

Keystone Resort With Kids: Skiing/snowboarding

We come to ski and Keystone has terrific runs that are groomed each night. We like the variety that the 3 different peaks give you. And with 20 different lifts, the lines seem to be small, allowing you to ski more. And this season, Keystone opened a new six-passenger chair lift on Montezumas Express which will ease congestion and give us much shorter lines at the base!

Visit The Ice Castles

Dillon, Colorado is only ten minutes from Keystone Ski Resort and we visited one evening for to check out the Ice Castles. Its basically an ice playground for kids with crawl spaces, ice slides, and a variety of ice sculptures. There is even a fire show on Friday and Saturday nights. As the sculptures are all made from snow/ice and its an open air display the time it opens each winter is dependent on the weather. Check out their website to see when they be open this winter season. Tickets often sell out, so they recommend purchasing in advance. Be sure to wear your ski gear to fully enjoy all the Ice Castles have to offer

Keystone : Best Location For Ski In/ski Out Lodging

Hi everyone, My family is planning to go out to keystone for the first time over president’s weekend and would like to stay at ski in /ski out location. Which condo locations are best ? Also which lifts- quads gondolas are best to stay near ? fyi: we are intermediate to advanced skiers. Also are the slopeside accommodations really worth the extra $$ ? we are planning to stay 5 nights. thanks. Corrine

You likely want to be in/around River Run. This is where Gondola is at, and given your ski levels you’ll want to head to North Peak and Outback, and the River Run lifts are easiest way to get there from base.

At River Run, i think Lone Eagle condos may be only one that’s truly ski in/out, the others all require a short walk to get to Gondola .

Lone Eagle is very nice, and has hot tub and pool on a nice patio area, of course you pay for the location, it’s likely one of, if not the, most expensive.

Hard to say if the extra $$ is worth it… it is VERY nice to ski right in/out.. but again you pay for it. I’ll say that the walk from River Run areas to Gondola isn’t really that bad for most places.

I’d check out the various places in River Run and see what your location vs costs come out to. If you have any specific ones I’m sure someone on here can give you more details.

One I like nearby is RedHawk, as it’s more townhome than condo. Though it’s a little bit more of a walk.

The Best Lodging Options In Keystone Colorado

how to have the PERFECT winter vacation! Skiing & Snowboarding at Keystone, Colorado | MackeyFam

There are three main areas to stay in Keystone and you really cant go wrong with any of the three options.

Lakeside Village Lakeside village surrounds Keystone lake with easy access to ice skating. The ski lifts are a short bus ride away.

My favorite lodging option in Lakeside Village is the Keystone Lodge and Spa. The views are incredible and I love the heated outdoor pool.

There are also several other condo complexes around the lake that can be booked through VRBO.

Mountain House Base Area The Mountain House base area is the original base area so the lodging options are older. That being said, the Mountain House is a great area if you want to be within walking distance of the ski lifts but not be right in the middle of the hustle and bustle. The Mountain House Base Area is a lot quieter than the other options. Condos in this area can be booked through VRBO.

River Run Village River Run Village is the main base area at Keystone Resort. If you want to be right in the action, you will want to book your lodging in River Run Village. There are many awesome condo options available to book on VRBO.

My favorites are the Springs Condos and the Red Hawk Lodge. Both of these condo complexes are close to the gondola and ski school and have amazing heated outdoor pools.
