Not only will you rent more space for the money, but the apartment stock consists mostly of sprawling pre-war flats, many with gorgeous Beaux-Arts details. Brimming with Hispanic flavor due to its large Dominican population, Washington Heights boasts a good number of Latin restaurants. Mom-and-pop shops are also prevalent, so chain stores haven’t found their way to this area of Manhattan yet. Brooklyn Where To Stay In New York City For Return Visitors
Brooklyn is renowned for its diverse residential neighborhoods. The most populated borough of New York City is huge and covers over 3 times the land area of Manhattan Island.
The Dumbo area close to Brooklyn Bridge is extremely touristy but not in a gimmicky way like Times Square. However, the area we recommend you consider staying in Brooklyn is Williamsburg.
If youre looking for hipster, bars spilling out onto streets, artsy, chilled and quite frankly awesome, Williamsburg is the place you should book.
You can always get a subway into Manhattan.
The reason we say Brooklyn / Williamsburg is where to stay in New York City for return visitors is because most first timers will stay in Manhattan, explore Brooklyn and Williamsburg, then say Ahh, next time we will stay here.
Places To Eat In Lower Manhattan
South Street Seaport is popular with tourists and is a nice spot in the middle of summer when you want to enjoy the breeze of the water while grabbing a bite to eat.
Seaport Smorgasburg is a fairly inexpensive food market that offers a variety of food: from pizza to lobster rolls and even Texan-style brisket sandwiches.

It’s Manhattan’s only private park, but the neighborhood that surrounds the key-only parcel bears the same name. It’s widely recognized as a posh area but also one of the island’s prettiest pockets. It could be one of the city’s most convenient addresses as Gramercy Park lies within a quick walk of Chelsea, the East Village, NoHo, Union Square, and NoMad. That means two public parks are within a quick jaunt for those who aren’t lucky enough to inherit a key to Gramercy Park . Some of the best restaurants in New York and old-school taverns dot the area, and the Players Club and the National Arts Club fit well into the neighborhood. You’ll spend more on rent closer to the park, but toward the river, you might find a bargain. Expect to pay in the range of $3,500 for a small, walk-up one-bedroom, and more than $4,500 for a more spacious flat in a doorman building close to the park. If you can afford to rent on Gramercy Park, you may land one of those coveted keys and be able to explore a piece of Manhattan that few ever will.

I visit NYC often and Soho is my go-to area. I really like the lower west side of Manhattan which has come a long way since 2001. It is not as much about the neighborhood itself, but Soho has great hotels and is incredibly central. You can jump on a bike and go across the Brooklyn Bridge or pop down to Rockefeller park which will make you feel like youre not in the city at all.
If youre looking for upscale shopping at some of the finest shops in the world, then look no further. Named for being South of Houston Street, youll find plenty of places to shop along Broadway: everything from Zara to Maria Tash Jewelry.

The neighborhood itself is lovely and very clean, plus the white brownstones are an incredible sight to behold too. Wander the blocks between 59th and 80th street for some of the most beautiful homes in NYC.
Also, having access to the Metropolitan Museum of Art MET is one of the many reasons this is one of the best places to stay in New York City.
Oh, lest I forget, Central Park is at your fingertips too. The advantages of staying in the Upper East Side just keep adding up, dont they?
As you can imagine, hotels in the Upper East Side will run a pretty penny. Its pretty much solely luxury hotels in this zip code. So if budget isnt a concern, I suggest the Carlyle, The Markor the Franklin Hotel.

The east village is known for its nightlife, with its old school bars and posh cocktail lounges. During the day, come here to browse the vintage boutiques and chill in one of the hip restaurants. It’s a brilliant place to get souvenirs from.
