Here guests become more than visitors, they become part of the Maasai community. We welcome you to join us around the fireplace, for story sharing and star gazing.
In an effort to revive the natural habitat Basecamp has planted more than 70 000 indigenous trees around the Talek River. Consequently, BCMM has turned into a tree lovers paradise and a haven for birdlife. Each morning a symphony of birdsong will wake you up as the sun rises over the world-renowned Maasai Mara National Park, home to the greatest gathering of wild animals on the planet. Maasai Mara is only a short walk away across our private suspension bridge.
Not far from the camp you will find the thriving village of Talek, whose community has been a close partner of Basecamp since the beginning. In and around Talek you will encounter authentic rural life, with all its mesmerizing vibrancy and cultural components. In the surrounding areas, Basecamp has initiated several community programmes with the aim of empowering local people through capacity building, awareness raising, and vocational training. Places To Stay In Masai Mara
This is my first time posting to this site, though I’ve been reading it for weeks and have learned a huge amount. My husband and I will be going to Kenya in November, partly to visit our daughter who is working for a year at Laikipia. She will be joining us on our travels for a few days. We’re doing a three day safari to the Masai Mara and are wondering about the best place to stay – so far suggestions have been Keekorok Lodge, Mara Serena Lodge or Governors Tented Camp. I know it’s largely a matter of personal preference, but wonder if anyone has any thoughts, mainly about whether one is a better location than the others? We’d like a variety of different types of accommodation during our trip – other places we’ll be staying are 2 nights with our daughter , a night at Sweetwaters, trip to the Mara then 4 nights at the Serena Beach in Mombasa.
Also – one more question – we will be flying overnight from the U.S., then flying overnight the next night London – Nairobi. We’ll then have transportation and a driver to take us to Laikipa, which we’ve been told is about 6 hour’s drive. My husband and I have different opinions as to whether we should stay the night in Nairobi before going on to Laikipia. He thinks we should leave the day we arrive, I’m concerned that 2 overnight flights plus a 6 hour drive on bad roads will leave us too exhausted to enjoy the next few days. Does anyone out there have any recommendations?
Look forward to hearing your opinions.
