Reforma Where To Stay In Mexico City For The First Time

Paseo de la Reforma is one of the most well-known avenues in the entire town! The area around it is a great place to choose for upscale hotels, great restaurants, museums but also some well-known attractions such as Chapultepec Castle.

This area is also known as the Times Square of Mexico City and youll understand why right after you get there.

Here youll find Chapultepec Park the citys biggest park, and the Angel of Independence so if youre visiting CDMX for the first time, youll most probably visit this area, as it is a popular tourist attraction, so why not choose to have your base there as well?

Santa Fe New Trendy Neighborhood In Mexico City

Santa Fe is one of the newest neighborhoods in Mexico City, known for its shiny skyscrapers and modern apartment buildings. Here, you can find the largest shopping mall in Mexico, Centro Santa Fe, a paradise for shoppers and foodies with plenty of entertainment for families.

Its not the best location as its pretty far from the tourist sights but its worth staying there if you are looking for a safe neighborhood with many high-end restaurants, shops, and hotels.

Centro Histrico Or Historic Centre

The historic center of Mexico City is located in the citys heart. It is home to many of the countrys most popular tourist attractions. The historic centre was designated as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1987. It covered an area of about 450 hectares. Inside youll find the main plaza or Zocalo, along with all of its historical buildings. You can spend days exploring this neighbourhood without getting bored! The main downside to staying inside the historic centre is also the reason its such a wonderful place to stay. And thats all the attractions, and therefore all the toursits.

Although being located close to all the historical sights gives you lots to do, it does feel like staying inside an amusement park. And when the sun goes down, the side streets are dead quiet as no locals live in the area. It is mainly a shopping and tourist district. Getting in and out of the area is also slightly problematic as many streets are closed to vehicle traffic. Which again is a huge plus when you are walking around but a downside when you arrive in a taxi with your luggage. So just be prepared to be dropped off a few streets away from your hotel and walk over to your destination.

Our Favorite Area: Polanco

Polanco is the most exclusive neighborhood in Mexico City, so Mexicans refer to this district as the posh area of the capital.

When walking through this area, it is common to see shops belonging to large fashion houses, exclusive restaurants and five-star hotels.

Polanco is also home to Bosque de Chapultepec, an enormous urban park where the inhabitants of Mexico City and visitors can ride bicycle or roller skate, and that also has the National Museum of Anthropology and the Tamayo Museum of Contemporary Art inside its territory.

The nightlife in Polanco is among the liveliest of CDMX, with bars and clubs that present the latest musical, gastronomic and cocktail trends.

Polanco is the best place to stay in Mexico City for the most demanding travelers who want to stay close to the fun and, at the same time, witness the most elegant side of CDMX.

Polanco is connected by line 7 of the metro , including its very own station.
