PARIS WITH CHILDREN | The best things to do in Paris with kids ð¼ð?» handpicked by locals
  • Adele et Jules occupies neighbouring beautiful Haussmann buildings just off the Grands Boulevards, 9th Arrondissement, so the location is difficult to beat! Its 60 rooms and family suites, which sleep up to four, are small but very stylish, and its the size that allows for them to be such great value. Everything else here is of a very pleasing standard with subtle, stylish colour schemes. Theres also a cosy honesty bar and lounge and they do a lovely breakfast and a complimentary afternoon tea.
  • Warm and comfortable while also being stylish and minimalist, the Hotel Arvor Saint-Georges is a three star property in the 9th Arrondissement close to the Pairs Opera House. Theres a lively looking breakfast room, which looks like it would make for a cheerful morning over an organic breakfast, and a comfortable communal lounge, plus 30 rooms and suites. The best by far for families is the two room suite on the ground floor, which also opens out onto a leafy courtyard.
  • Mob Hotel is an avant-garde concept hotel close to the flea market at Saint-Ouen. Each of the rooms is individually designed, though theyre all along similar lines, with bold terracottas, rich fabrics and eclectic, vintage treasures. If youre here with your family youll need to book a suite, and it might just have a tipi for your smalls to play in. The restaurant takes pride in serving all organic farm-to-table fare.

Museum Of Natural History Galerie Des Enfants In The Grande Galerie De Levolution

Paris Natural History Museum

The Grande Gallery of Evolution is another of the family things to do in Paris. It is one of many galleries of the Museum of Natural History, spread around the edges of the Jardin des Plantes, close to Gare dAusterlitz station.

The Gallery of Evolution is home to a large collection of stuffed animals including big ones like whole giraffes and elephants and preserved specimens in a beautiful old building. It is surprisingly fun to wander around and take it all in.

The highlight of the gallery for S and Z, though, was the Childrens Gallery. While part of the Gallery of Evolution you need to pay extra to enter the Childrens Gallery.

To spread people out, the doors are only opened every 15 minutes, and on your ticket is a time slot you cant enter before. For example, our tickets assigned us the 12:15 slot. We could enter at 12:15 or 12:30 or any opening after, but not the 12:00 one or any before. You can stay as long as you like.

The Childrens Gallery is full of things kids can touch and interact with and is designed to be entertaining and engaging. Theres a focus on different types of habitats and what animals live in each, as well as protecting and conserving them.

Both S and Z were entertained for quite some time and, despite not being a huge space, there is a lot to do. The gallery is recommended for ages 6 to 12 which made sense.

Entry is 11 Euros for adults, 9 Euros for kids, free for under 4s.

Best Neighborhood In Paris For Fashionistas: Champs Lyses / Golden Triangle 8th Arrondissement

Fashionistas know there’s a lot more to fashion than just shopping.

If you dream of immersing yourself in the world of design, checking out the latest trends in designer showrooms and flagship stores, and soaking up inspiration in Paris’ top fashion and design museums, opt for a hotel or apartment in the glamorous Golden Triangle neighborhood bordered by Champs Élysées, Avenue George V, and Avenue Montaigne – the most glamorous part of the 8th arrondissement.

This is where the world’s most famous designers and haute couture fashion houses such as Dior, Louis Vuitton, Chanel, Saint Laurent, Chloé, Kenzo, Valentino, Tiffany, and Balmain dazzle a deep-pocketed international crowd.

Just over the border with the 16th district are two Paris museums high on every fashionista’s bucket list: Palais Galliera, featuring sensational temporary exhibits delving deep into fashion and fashion history, and Musée Yves Saint Laurent, devoted to showcasing the legendary couturier’s iconic pieces as well as the famous designer’s studio. Eating In Paris With Kids

Paris is renowned for its food and there are restaurants, cafes and food outlets everywhere you are sure to find something you like.

Paris restaurants are pricey so on our budget, we could not eat in restaurants often. However, when we did, we were very happy!

We particularly enjoyed creperies. These places are delicious, great value and work well with kids as I imagine there are very few kids who wouldnt enjoy a delicious French crepe.

We also loved the cider that was sold at creperies. I have never been a fan of cider until now. French cider is delicious!

If you want to try out a French creperie, I particularly recommend going to the southern end of Rue de Montparnasse. There are many here. I tried two and they were both delicious.

Here are some creperies we loved:

  • Creperie La Bigoudenne, Rue de Montparnasse 9.50 euros for 2 courses, sooooooo good!
  • Lulu La Nantaise Creperie, near Republique and Canal St Martin

A great way to enjoy eating in Paris with kids is by having a picnic. We had so many picnics with yummy fresh French produce and they were a fantastic way to eat for all of us. When we were in a rush, the local boulangerie also worked out very well for a kid friendly meal on a budget.

Where to Stay in Paris France First Time | Top 10 Places to Visit in Paris with Kids

I begin with the recommendation of Virginie at Travel with my Kids as she is a native Parisian. Here is what she has to say:

Paris Left Bank, and more especially Saint-Germain-des-prés and Quartier Latin areas are among my favorites in Paris. As a family visiting Paris, you will be in a lively and safe district, with a wide range of restaurants and typical cafés.

Not to mention that there is a lot to do with kids in this area of Paris: the Luxembourg Gardens, the Botanical Garden, Notre-Dame Cathedral, and a Seine River cruise. Two hotels she likes to recommend are:

Hôtel Le Petit Belloy Saint Germain: a small mid-range hotel very well located near the Luxembourg Gardens. For families, they offer two connecting rooms, which is a nice solution.

Hotel Left Bank Saint Germain: a charming and cosy hotel beautifully decorated like an old mansion with antique furniture and tapestries. The hotel provides a quadruple room with a view on the flowered courtyard that is quite romantic. Excellent location, close to Notre-Dame.

Lisa Goodmurphy of Gone with the Family recommends:

Le Prince Régent Résidence & Spa: in the 6th arrondissement near Luxembourg Gardens, the Pantheon, and the Sorbonne. Le Prince Régent is located in an 18th century building which has been restored as an apartment/hotel. They offer several suites that can accommodate 4 to 6 people.

Best Place To Stay In Paris For Fantastic Boutiques Galleries Bistros Bars & Nightlife: The Marais 3rd & 4th Arrondissements

You can find lots of compelling reasons why thewhich includes large swaths of the 3rd and 4th arrondissements, is a popular place to stay. Stunning architecture, layers of history and culture including a vibrant Jewish community with roots dating back to the middle ages and a more recent LGBTQ community, gorgeous parks such as Place des Vosges, important museums, and fascinating historic churches make the Marais a truly special area.

But if you had to pick just one – ok, maybe five – things that make the Marais an outstanding place to stay, it might be the heady combination of unique locally owned boutiques, countless galleries featuring the work of established and emerging artists, welcoming bistros and bars, and a sizzling nightlife that give you an exhilarating ambiance you won’t find anywhere else in Paris – and choosing a hotel or apartment here puts you right in middle of it, day and night.

You could easily spend your entire vacation here – but the Marais’ location puts you within easy reach of all the city’s top attractions by foot or metro. As a bonus, you’re also close to top attractions in eastern Paris: the immersive digitized animated art and music shows at Atelier des Lumières, street art near the scenic drawbridges along Canal Saint-Martin, and the evocative tombstones on the hilly slopes of Pere Lachaise Cemetery.

Once you’ve experienced a stay in the Marais, you’ll most likely return again and again.

Best Places to Stay with Kids in Paris

This area of Paris is the one of the Grand Boulevards, making it one of the best connected arrondissements in Paris. Its also focused around theatre with Palais Garnier, Paris most opulent opera house, as its crown jewel.

Shopaholics, rejoice! The 9th arrondissement is home to two of the most iconic departments stores in Paris: Galéries Lafayette and Printemps, making it the best neighborhood in Paris for some serious retail therapy. Shops of a different kind can be found north of the opera house.

The South-Pigalle or SoPi neighborhood, a former red-light district turned hipster-haven located in the northern part of the 9th arrondissement, is where to find the newest homegrown fashion designer boutiques and concept stores.

This arrondissement is also home to a dazzling number of bakeries, cafés, restaurants and delis.

We wouldnt necessarily recommend this area for a first trip to Paris. But if youve been to the City of Light before and are looking for a more artistic vibe rather than a classic experience, then this is where to stay in Paris.

When Should You Book A Hotel In Paris

Staying in a hotel in Paris is the perfect choice if youre traveling to Paris for the first time, if you like a carefree stay with some extra perks and if youre staying for just a few nights.

If youre traveling to Paris with kids, then deciding on where to stay in Paris can be even more more challenging. Hotel rooms in Paris are rather small, especially compared to rooms in the United States. Youll either have to book a suite or two double rooms to accommodate your family. Family rooms in the standard room range are a rarity.

Explorers Hotel – Best Hotel to Stay at Disneyland Paris with kids

My six-year-old and I wandered the steep back streets of Montmartre for an hour before reaching Place du Tertre. We stopped on Place Emile Goudeau to watch a group of silver-haired French women paint in an open-air art class a scene that compelled Madeleine to vow, with most earnest eyes, that she would return to Paris when she was older to study art.

She then nudged me into a kids’ boutique to find a kerchief like the ones she’d seen young French girls wearing, and asked for a crepe from a dodgy-looking stand, a snack almost redeemed by the amount of butter and strawberry jam with which it was slathered.

I saw the mass of tourists in Place du Tertre and instantly recoiled. I’d always fancied myself too sophisticated a traveller to spend much time in this touristy area. I looked out and saw a perverse caricature of a community that once nurtured some of western culture’s most-celebrated artists. For Madeleine however, it was something altogether different. She saw a square full of artists busy at work, a space brimming with bright colours and cheerful activity.

She asked for a portrait. I cringed and obliged but almost immediately I was overcome with an acute sense of joy as she sat before an artist. I understood that we were recording the collection of extraordinary moments that we had shared that day, in charcoal. Madeleine had effectively torn up my checklist and taken us on a tour of what she wanted to see and do.
