Best Place To Stay In Paso Robles For Wine Tasting

Sculpterra Winery And Sculpture Garden

Paso Robles | Wine Tasting in California’s Central Coast

This is a truly unique winery. The magnificent wrought iron gate at the entry gives you the first taste of what is to come. After a short drive through vineyards, you are greeted by the sculptures the winery gets its name from. There are a number of artists whose works are on display throughout the gardens and in the tasting room.

The sculptures are set in beautiful gardens that surround the building housing the tasting room. The gardens include a demonstration vineyard and a stage set around a large oak tree that is used for events.

Make sure to try the excellent Rhone Style and Bordeaux blends when you visit.

Mermaid Mansion In The Vineyards

Yall, I found it: the most gorgeous Airbnb of all-time. Seriously: look at this place! THIS is where youre gonna want to host your personal version of The Bachelor. Yes, I bring up The Bachelor a lot even in my personal life. Its an ish.

This villa, known as The Mermaid,is tailor-made for entertaining, complete with a waterfall pool, hot tub, swim-up bar, bocce ball court, shuffleboard, beach volleyball, hockey table, arcade games , spa soaking tubs , and the list goes on. I mean, theres even a BAR. Is this a party house or a girlfriend getaway mansion? The answer is yes. Also, can we come?!

As another major bonus, you can bring Fido its pet friendly! AND its also on Highway 46 West, close to the vineyardsif you can bring yourself to change out of your bathing suit and venture outside, that is.

The price tag is high youll want to split it with a group to make it budget-friendly. But with space for 14, you couldnt ask for a better house to splurge on with your friends.

Stylish Studio With Vineyard Views

This charming little studio is located on Linne Road, within a stones throw of Scupterra Winery.

The entire place is cozy, comfortable, and the perfect place to base yourself to explore wineries, especially if you want to feel away from it all at the end of the day. Besides the fresh interior and small kitchen, there is a great outdoor patio with a grill for BBQing if the spirit takes you.

Whats most important here, though, is that you can take a glass of wine out on said patio and watch the sun setting over some beautiful rolling hills lined with grapevines. Ahhh, Paso bliss!

Where To Stay In Paso Robles

The lofty Piccolo is one of Paso’s newest hotels.

The newly-opened Lofts at the Market are part of the sustainable mixed-use development that includes a coffee shop, bakery, vegan creamery, ramen shop, cider house, and natural wine bar downstairs. You may get some apartment envy in their smartly designed suites, which include a wine fridge, gorgeous Spanish tile backsplashes, and plenty of sweet amenities for your pooch.

The Piccolo is another centrally located option with ultra-thoughtful touches that include a Moet Champagne vending machine and a stunner of a rooftop bar, as well included continental breakfast. Be sure to take note of the woodwork by San Luis Obispo-based carpenter Janine Stone, which plays nicely with the hotel’s exposed brick walls and floor-to-ceiling windows.

Another excellent option is The Stables Inn , the cooler little sister to the more upscale, old-world Cheval Hotel. It is owned and operated by the same team, and is similarly rooted in equestrian culture, but The Stables has a decidedly more millennial, Austin vibe than its English-riding sibling, complete with outdoor fire pits and Western tack room decor.

On the opposite end of the spectrum, The Trailer Pond offers an adorable vintage RV cluster amidst the organically farmed Alta Colina Vineyard. The stay includes complimentary tasting of their Rhône varietal blends, fresh morning coffee, and the playful, laid-back vibe that the region is known for.

My Favorite Paso Robles Wineries

The top three wineries I recommend when visiting Paso Robles Wine Country are Tablas Creek, Sculptera, and AmByth. These wineries give you a good back for your buck and provide a wide sampling of wines. They also all had a fantastic facility that was enjoyable to stay at for several hours. Halter Ranch was a good runner up as they had great service, it was a decent value, and the facility was pleasant.

Austin Hope Wines Part Of Hope Family Wines

Austin Hope is one of the labels within the larger portfolio of Hope Family Wines, named for the winemaker himself. We sat down in one of the several tasting areas at Austin Hope, which includes a bright tasting room, a parlor setup inside a tank room, and a sunny deck that overlooks a gorgeous grenache vineyard.

Hope Family Wines tasting on oudoor patio Paso Robles by James Collier

The Austin Hope wines are primarily Rhône varietals grenache, syrah, mourvedre and includes critically-acclaimed cabernet sauvignons. Samantha Taylor, assistant winemaker to Austin Hope, led the tasting, which included a cheese pairing from local Stepladder Ranch and Creamery in the neighboring town of Cambria. If wine and cheese are a perfect pairing, then a winemaker and a cheesemaker are even more so, right? Samanthas husband Robin Proffitt is the cheesemaker at Stepladder! awwwww

Wines we tasted at Austin Hope:

  • Austin Hope Sauvignon Blanc
  • Austin Hope Cabernet Sauvignon
  • Austin Hope Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon .

The Stepladder Creamery cheeses included in the pairing were Marinated Fromage Blanc, Cabrillo, Paso Vino, Moonstone, and Ragged Point.

** If you're inspired to do your own wine and cheese pairing at home, peep this Guide for How to Perfectly Pair Any Wine and Cheese, with specific pairing examples with StepLadder cheeses on an epic cheese board!

Spring and Fall are both beautiful times to visit Paso Robles. Springtime brings cheerful wildflowers and bright green hills, while fall brings stunning grapevine foliage and vineyard harvest season.

That said: spring and fall are also the most expensive times of the year to book an Airbnb in Paso Robles!

So if youre on a tight budget and dont mind missing harvest season, youll want to visit in summer or winter instead. Summer in Paso Robles is hot, so youll want to book a place with a pool but youll be treated to rolling golden hills and lush vineyards. Winter brings mild temperatures and rain, but January and February are actually early springtime in California youll catch blooming wildflowers and bright green hills as early as late january!

Personally, we find ourselves booking a trip to Paso Robles around Valentines Day each year. Its still off-season for tourists, but it coincides with whale migration and monarch butterfly season as well as early wildflower blooms, and we think its the most beautiful time of the year to take a trip down Highway One! Speaking of which, weve got two more guides to help you out with that: a 10-day Highway One itinerary , and a guide to the best stops along the Pacific Coast Highway.
