Ladys Best Area To Stay In San Francisco For Your Style

San Francisco is one of my favorite cities. Ive lived here, worked here, and traveled here, and every trip makes me fall more in love with the City by the Bay. Because I grew up here, I often get asked where the best area to stay in San Francisco is. Today I want to share my guide and help you find the perfect neighborhood for you.

Why Stay In North Beach And The Hills

North Beach is the ‘Little Italy’ of San Francisco, where a passion for pasta, gelato, and espresso comes to life. A place for fabulous food, views and local vibes. The steep residential streets are ideal for wandering and taking in the expanding views of the city. At the top of The Hills, the views don’t get much more sublime. The rising towers and skyscrapers punctuate the horizon creating a covetable view whatever the weather. The Telegraph Hill and Russian Hill areas feature the more opulent homes with views towards Nob Hill in the South. The area is commonly known as Snob Hill due to its numerous swanky hotels and grand mansions. Nob Hill is one of the original seven hills of San Francisco and you can definitely sense the nostalgia here. For a taste of the high life stay in one of the many luxury hotels around the Hills.

Haight & Ashbury Best Place To Stay For History And Culture

If youre looking for counterculture history, alternative vibes, vintage shops, and a place where hippies and punks live side by side, Haight-Ashbury is where you should stay. One of the most beloved neighborhoods in San Francisco, it was the center of the Summer of Love in 1967. Its where the hippie movement in California took form.

You might find more hipsters than hippies here today, but Haight-Ashbury is still one of the most interesting places to visit in San Francisco. We loved strolling along the streets visiting vintage and nostalgic shops, record stores like Amoeba Music, tattoo parlors, and the colorful streets.

Haight-Ashbury also has a wide range of quirky restaurants and cafes come together to form a funky combination of old and new. Make sure to visit Golden Gate Park where all the hippies hang out. Dont be surprised if you see drum circles and smell a joint or two as you walk through its leafy grounds. This is where The Grateful Dead, Janis Joplin, and Jefferson Airplane used to play impromptu concerts.

You definitely do not want to miss the views from Buena Vista Park and make sure to grab a photo at The Famous Legs Its also where youll find a more local side to the city than what you might see in Fishermans Wharf or Union Square.

Why Stay In The Mission And The Castro

If San Francisco had a heart, it would beat contentedly from the inner suburbs of the Mission and the Castro. Here, San Francisco’s diverse culture and personality pulses through the streets. The areas are filled with galleries, local pop up shops, vibrant bars and restaurants and a thriving, rich nightlife. A melting pot of cultures commandeers the food scene with a mix of hipster cafes, Mexican eateries and traditional taquerias. This is also where you’ll find the oldest building in San Francisco – Mission Dolores, built in 1776 and survivor of two earthquakes. The Mission also has the cities largest and oldest collection of murals. You could spend hours wandering the quaint streets in search of hidden gems. The Mission is the heart of Latino expression, whilst the Castro is literally bursting with Pride an expanding LGBTQ neighbourhood with regular events and always something new to experience. Castro is proud to pronounce itself the âgay capital of the world.â Many B& B’s in these areas are housed in beautiful historic buildings and offer home cooked scrumptious breakfasts. The towering heights of Twin Peaks stand nearby, with a hilltop park providing an epic 360 view of the bay area.

The Best Area To Stay If You Want Fresh Seafood: Fisherman’s Wharf

You’re almost obligated to include Fisherman’s Wharf on your San Francisco travel itinerary. Locals refer to the Sunset as the ‘Avenues,’ where a grid of attractive pastels houses lay in grids towards Ocean Beach on the West Bay. Exciting But Busy Days In San Francisco With Kids

There is so much to do in San Francisco with kids, but if you just have two days to see as much of the City by the Bay as you can, here is a sample itinerary to help you plan your trip. We recently spent a week in California, visiting Sonoma, Monterey, Carmel, Big Sur, Cambria, Paso Robles, as well as 2 days in San Francisco. With a limited amount of time, and a CityPass in our pocket, we set out to explore as much as we could of one of my favorite cities. Along the way, we learned a few tips and discovered a few gems that will help you plan your own trip.

House Of Air Trampoline

The House of Air Trampoline is great for kids 3 and older. You can grab tickets for their open gym time and let your kids jump around for an hour or two. The price is per hour and is about $20 per child, per hour. This is for kids 7 and older.

They also have designated mini jump areas for kids 3 to 6. This allows them to play around without having to worry or get hurt by jumping with the older kids. These sessions are also priced out by the hour.

The House of Air Trampoline is open daily. It will make for a memorable time in San Francisco with kids.

Inner Or Outer Sunset

The Sunset along with the Richmond district are San Franciscos suburban areas, and quite a lot of San Francisco residents live here. And plenty of unsuspecting tourists are tempted to stay in this area.

Yes, its a pretty name for a neighborhood. Yes, its right next to San Franciscos coast and Ocean Beach. Yes, theres excellent food and a cute local flair and cultural vibe. And yes, youll be bordering beautiful Golden Gate Park, one of San Franciscos best attractions.

But we dont recommend you stay in the Sunset! Why? Because its SO. FAR. AWAY.

Look, I know San Francisco is a teeny tiny city and only 7×7 square miles. But for whatever reason, getting in and out of the Sunset via any form of public transit takes HOURS. It makes no sense, but trust us on this one.

Also, during all but about 2 hours of the day, this whole area is completely covered in a thick, heavy, wet, freezing cold layer of fog. The locals are used to it youre not. If you dont want to be soaked to your skin walking to your accommodation after 6pm, stay somewhere warmer instead!

  • Where to Stay Instead: Haight-Ashbury also borders Golden Gate Park, but on the inland side, which means youll escape the freezing cold fog.
