Where To Stay Near San Francisco

Travelers searching for ideas of where to stay outside of San Francisco should look at the hotels near SFO airport. This area , including the cities of Millbrae and Burlingame, is just a 30-minute BART train ride or drive into downtown San Francisco.

The main advantages of staying outside the city include easier parking and convenient proximity to the airport, especially if arriving late or departing early. With the exception of hotels that cater to business travelers, most accommodations outside of San Francisco tend to be less expensive than similar-category hotels in the city.

Also a short drive from the airport and downtown Burlingame, the Hilton Garden Inn San Francisco Airport provides comfortable 3-star accommodations at a reasonable price. The hotel has a restaurant, indoor swimming pool, and fitness center. Amenities include room service, free parking, and complimentary airport transportation service. Guest rooms feature mini refrigerators, microwaves, and coffee machines.

Just minutes away from the SFO airport, the Bay Landing Hotel in Burlingame is a great value in the mid-range category. This 3-star boutique hotel provides free parking and complimentary shuttle service to and from the airport. Guest rooms are equipped with mini refrigerators, microwaves, and coffee machines. Accommodations also include a complimentary continental breakfast, served in a dining room or on an outdoor terrace overlooking the San Francisco Bay.

Where To Stay In Haight

The districts between Civic Center and Golden Gate Park are perhaps the citys most racially and economically diverse. Once grubby and crime-ridden, they now make up an eclectic patchwork.

Haight-Ashbury, once the centre of the hippie movement, has adopted its peace-and-love past as a de facto marketing campaign but is still worth visiting. If youre really looking to connect with modern-day counterculture, however, youre better off in the Lower Haight, immediately to the east.

Elsewhere, the affluent nook of sleepy Cole Valley is a pleasant diversion. Alamo Square is worth a stop, too, where six restored Victorian houses and the Downtown skyline provide one of San Franciscos most popular photo opportunities.

North and west of Alamo Square is the Fillmore, once home to some of the citys most notorious housing projects and still economically deprived. Grafted onto its eastern edge is Japantown, an awkwardly artificial development but the heart of the citys Japanese community.

Best for a taste of Japan: Hotel Kabuki

The Kabuki strikes a sophisticated, streamlined look in architecturally drab Japantown. Tea service rituals and workshops on Japanese traditions complete the picture.

Best for park views: Stanyan Park Hotel

Overlooking Golden Gate Park, this small hotel has 35 sumptuous rooms that are incongruous in its countercultural neighbourhood. Each is busily decorated in country florals with heavy drapes and junior four-poster beds.

Fishermans Wharf & North Beach Where To Stay In San Francisco With A Family

Fishermans Wharf is one of the most iconic spots in San Francisco and its my top recommendation for people traveling with their family to the city! Ah, its also a great choice if you only have one day in the city!

For my second area recommendation I have decided to combine Fishermans Wharf with North Beach, as the two areas are not that big, theyre pretty similar and theyre right close to each other.

FUN FACT: Fishermans Wharf used to be the #1 tourist attraction in San Francisco, but it was since dethroned by the Golden Gate Bridge and Alcatraz island.

One of the best things about these two areas is that theyre very close to the activities and attractions in the city center and they encompass some pretty exciting things to do themselves: while youre there, you can take a walk near the water, admire the sea lions at the Sea Lion Center or you can take a ferry and visit the former Alcatraz island prison! Some other cool spots in the city include the Aquarium of the Bay, Musée Mécanique, Pier 39 and the .

Ah, needless to say: if you love fresh fish and seafood , this is THE place to be if you want to indulge! If you have your heart set on these two beautiful areas, below you can find my recommended San Francisco hotels around:

Best places to stay in San Francisco 2020 [best areas ...

Deciding where to stay in San Francisco with kids can be challenging. Urban congestion abounds, and dicey neighborhoods in the downtown are right next to the touristy areas. To alleviate these problems, it’s best to stay at Fisherman’s Wharf or in the because these areas are cleaner, safer, and easier to get around by car. Parking is more plentiful and less expensive here than downtown. The hotels in this area also offer more spacious accommodations and suites that are ideal for families.

In the ideal location for families with kids, the Hyatt Centric Fisherman’s Wharf is just steps away from the fish and chips shacks of Fisherman’s Wharf. A few blocks farther is Ghirardelli Square and Aquatic Park overlooking the Golden Gate Bridge. Several blocks in the other direction is Pier 39, with many attractions for children: the Aquarium of the Bay museum, sea lions, street performers, and an old-fashioned carousel. Kids will also love the Hyatt’s heated swimming pool, and parents will enjoy the hotel’s casual restaurant that serves California cuisine prepared from local ingredients and sustainable seafood.

Another excellent choice at Fisherman’s Wharf is the Holiday Inn Express Hotel & Suites, right on the waterfront and two blocks from the cable car stop at Hyde and Beach streets. The hotel has many suites that are roomy enough for large families.

Where To Stay In San Francisco

  • Read More About California
  • San Francisco was once known as the epicenter of the counterculture movement. In the 1960s and 70s, it was the place where you would find artists, beatniks, and those who practiced an alternative lifestyle. Today, San Francisco is more tech than it is artsy but it still revolves around a culture that values tolerance and acceptance of diversity. One of the things that comes along with that change is that the city has become quite expensive which can make choosing the right hotels in San Francisco difficult.

Best places to stay in San Francisco 2020 [best areas ...

    1. Hotel 32One

    321 Grant Avenue

The location of this three-star hotel is excellent. It’s right across the street from Chinatown’s Dragon Gate and close walking distance to both Union Square and the Financial District.

This cheap SF hotel was formerly the two-star Hotel 32One but has since made some upgrades. The rooms are still basic and small, but they are clean and feature comfy beds.

Why is it so cheap?Few amenities and street noise. The biggest reason the rates here are affordable is that this hotel offers very basic amenities and small rooms. As it’s located in the heart of all the action, the loud street noise can also be heard inside the rooms from the lower level front-facing rooms.

Perfect for: Tourists who want to be close to the action and don’t plan to spend too much time in their room.

Other tips: If you are a light sleeper, request a room in the back or on a higher floor. You will still hear some of the noises of the city, but it is a little quieter here. The rooms have ceiling fans rather than air conditioning, but this usually isn’t a problem as San Francisco is cool all year around.
