Bonus : Transportation In The City
While the Old Town is easily walkable , theres a chance that you are staying outside of it or you want to get to the random attraction in the suburbs.
I know what it is like to navigate a city whose language you dont speak, so dont worry weve got you covered on how to use public transport in Tbilisi!
Buses
The yellow buses in Tbilisi are pretty straightforward to use and super affordable, you can either buy the public transport card at a metro station and top it up, or you can pay straight in the bus. However, if you choose to do the latter make sure you have the exact amount needed as the driver wont have any change.
PRICE: 2 GEL to buy the card and 50 Tetri each trip.
Metro
Another efficient form of transportation in Tbilisi is the metro. A little bit rusty and old , this is one of the favourite modes of transportation for the locals! You would need to buy the Metronami travel card in one of the metro stations in order to get in.
PRICE: 2 GEL to buy the card and 0.5 GEL each trip.
These yellow minivans will take you to the end of the world and back, if you know how to. Theyre a bit more expensive than the bus or the metro but they go to way more places. It is the adventurous way to go if youre looking to explore a bit outside town, but beware, they dont follow a clear schedule! You can also use the public transport card in this case .
PRICE: 2 GEL to buy the card and 0.8 to 1 GEL each trip.
Taxi
PRICE: It is usually about 1 Lari for 1 km.
Try Its Fantastic Food
If you had any diets prior to going to Georgia, forget about it! This is just too delicious to resist
I am all serious though, Georgian cuisine is my second-favourite after Italian and I am only happy I became vegetarian AFTER I visited Georgia! But dont worry, if you dont eat meat there will be plenty for you to indulge in too , but I still see their khinkali in my dreams sometimes, haha
So, what are all those weird food names that you probably never heard of? Let me immerse you in the world of Georgian cuisine:
Food
If you hate to go to a restaurant, check the menu and have no idea what would be best to order, the following list will be your best friend while in Tbilisi. You can thank me later :
- Khinkali dumplings the Georgian style, can come not only with meat, but with potatoes, cheese, mushrooms and many more fillings. This is how to eat it
- Khachapuri* Cheese pie in different styles, soooo good! My favourite is Adjaruli , it is a ship shaped bread with an egg on top. This is how to eat it
- Phkali* minced vegetables balls
- Lobio* bean dip
- Badrijani* fried eggplant stuffed with walnut and garlic paste.
- Kharcho Yummy slow cooked meat and tomato stew with polenta
- Churchkhela* it is a candle shaped candy that you will find in a lot of stalls as street food. I think it is made of dried nuts and flour I am really not sure how to explain it, but you have to try it!

Indulge Into Donuts In Mtatsminda Amusement Park
Remember I mentioned donuts earlier? That is THE place!
Mtatsminda is a hill located 770 meters above sea level and it is the highest point in the city. The area is huge, it covers over 100 hectares and it offers a fantastic 360-degree view to the city .
Here is the official website of the park that also briefly explains how to get there. In 2 words you can get there by cable car and funicular or you can go by taxi.
If the elevation is still not enough for you, try their ferris wheel, I am sure the view will be even more scenic!
And what about the donuts you ask me? Check out their restaurant on the hill it looks very fancy and it offers a great view to the city. All food is super delicious, but they are most famous for their desserts and, in particular, donuts . It has some cream inside, plus their chocolate lemonade which tastes really different, just try it!

Does It Snow In Tbilisi Georgia
It rarely ever snows in Tbilisi, even in December- January, but it does snow in places like Gudauri, Kazbegi and Svaneti. So if youre looking for white snowy landscapes in winter, head out of Tbilisi to higher altitudes. When I visited in April, there was still plenty of snow in Kazbegi, Gudauri, as well as Mestia and Ushguli in Svaneti.

Pros And Cons Of Staying In Abanotubani
Pros
- Youll be right downtown in the heart of the historic district, close to the most famous attractions of Old Tbilisi.
- Youll be able to get a stunning view of the city whenever you like, thanks to the cable car and the many great cafes perched high on the hill.
Cons
- Many of the restaurants in this part of town are overpriced tourist traps. You might end up paying more than you should, for poor quality food.
- The streets are steep and uneven, so if you have any mobility issues this neighborhood will be tough to navigate.
- Most services and conveniences in this area are aimed at tourists, so its difficult to live in this area long term.
Omalo & Other Villages In Tusheti
Tushetiis one of the most beautiful and fascinating regions of Georgia. Its located in northeast Georgia, on the northern slopes of the Great Caucasus Mountains. There is only one road that goes to the area over the treacherous 2900m Abano Pass.
Its a beautiful mountain pass but its also considered one of the most dangerous roads in the world. You need a 4×4 vehicle and nerves of steel to cross the pass but it is definitely worth it!
The road to Tusheti is only open for 5 months .
The inhabitants, the Tushs or Tushetians, nowadays only go up there during summer to graze their cattle, organize traditional festivals, provide accommodation and tours for tourists and reconnect with their roots.
In winter they live in the lowland villages of Alvani and Akhmeta in Kakheti.

Hotel Tetnuldi in Svaneti
The Hotel Tetnuldi is located in the small UNESCO-listed town of Mestia, surrounded by the Caucasus Mountains. Accommodation options are limited here but if you want a hotel rather than a guesthouse, then the Hotel Tetnuldi is the best option for you. When booking a room make sure that you ask for a room with a balcony and a view of the Tetnuldi Mountain. The little extra is certainly worth it. There are plenty of activities here to keep you entertained as the hotel has facilities for hiking, mountain climbing and snowshoeing. Bike rental is also available on site.
Château Dio, Ambrolauri
Upper Adjara Skiing & Sweet Villages
The highlands above Batumi wear their winter cloak so well. Sweet alpine villages such as Beshumi sport similar A-frame cottages to Bakhmaro and are gorgeous in winter.
Georgias third ski resort, Goderdzi, is located in this region and despite being smaller is probably the most scenic. With fewer tourists, the atmosphere here is more intimate. The season typically runs from December to March.
Goderdzi is four hours by road from Batumi. Conditions can be treacherous in winter so its best to travel with a local driver.

The interior design is extremely cute and warm. You should definitely check the restaurant area. The room was really clean and neat. Everything was perfect. It is only 5 min walk to the old town. It is a safe area as well. The staff is really nice. They let us check in really early when we said we were really exhausted. I loved this place. Certainly recommend it to everyone who likes little tiny details and clean pillows.More

Beautiful Places To Visit In Georgia
Im so happy to hear you are looking for the best places to visit in Georgia .
With over 65 countries across the world under my belt, Georgia remains at the top of my list as my absolute favorite country in the world. Ive traveled extensively in Georgia, even living there in 2019.
Youll find so many awesome things to do in Georgia. Georgia offers everything a traveler could want: affordable prices, a welcoming culture, excellent and cheap transportation options, incredible mountains, seaside resorts, vibrant city life, and delicious food and drink.
There are so many destinations in Georgia choose from, so this list will help you narrow it down to the 11 top places to visit in Georgia Europe:
Kazbegi Scenic Drives & Mountain Magic
Under four hours by road from Tbilisi, Kazbegi is the best place to get a peek at the Greater Caucasus without venturing too far from the city.
The scenic Georgian Military Highway remains open throughout winter, making it easy to reach Kazbegi and visit a slew of winter-wonderful sights along the way, including Gudauri, Pasanauri and Sno Village. The views along this road in winter are nothing short of dazzling I challenge you to resist the urge to roll the window down at every turn.
Nearby Gudauri takes the lions share of winter tourism thanks to its ski slopes. Kazbegi is quieter and much more tranquil by contrast. Some restaurants and cafes close for the winter, but you can always find something open. Venture up to Gergeti Trinity Church and spend an afternoon on the deck at Rooms sipping glint wine.
Where to stay in Kazbegi in winter
Rooms Kazbegi is my top choice for winter accommodation. The suites and lodge-like common spaces are super cosy, and the property features an outdoor hot tub and an indoor pool. See my full list of recommended Kazbegi accommodations here.
