Best Places To Stay In Corsica

Where To Stay In Corsica Without A Car

Corsica | Best Places to Visit in Corsica | Instagram Spots | Calvi Beach | Road Trip| Part 3

If you are staying more than a couple of days, I really recommend hiring a car. However if you still want a car free holiday, I recommend:

  • Porticcio – very close to Ajaccio you have access to the beach and many activities are offered departing Porticcio
  • Santa Giulia – only if you want to stay all the time at the beach – In the South of Corsica, you can fly to Figari, get a cab to your accommodation right by the beach and just enjoy the crystal clear water and beach activities
  • Calvi – it is also a good place to stay if you don’t have a car – You can fly into the Calvi airport . You can enjoy the beach right in the middle of the town. Plus there are some good boat trips to Scandola and the train along the coast that stops at many beaches all the way to L’Ile Rousse.

Les Bergeries De Palombaggia Palombaggia

Palombaggia is one of Corsicas best and longest beaches. Stay at Les Bergeries and youll be an easy 20-minute stroll away, at an equally striking base. This stone-clad spa hotel gazes out towards the Cerbicale Islands with an infinity pool and bar perfumed by the islands maquis shrub. Spa treatments are equally soothing, while the restaurant dishes up rustic Corsican classics. All 21 air-conditioned bedrooms afford airy, off-white design and high-comfort furnishings. Regular shuttle services connect to that beach, helping you to outpace summer day-trippers, and a motorboat can be hired for Lavezzi Island expeditions.

Beaches Near Porto Vecchio

Some of Corsica’s dreamiest sandy beaches are around Porto Vecchio, which has become a busy summertime resort. These beaches are prized for their expansive sandy shorelines, gentle waves, and unspoiled scenery.

The most famous beach is the Plage de Palombaggia, renowned for its wide sandy shore and calm turquoise waters. Another excellent sandy beach is the Plage de Santa Giulia. Both of these beaches are in sheltered bays, which provide a protected environment that is ideal for swimming.

Slightly farther away and less crowded is the Plage de Rondinara, an absolutely gorgeous sandy beach on the Rondinara Bay. The crystal-clear waters at Rondinara Beach have an almost tropical quality.

The old port town of Porto Vecchio is also worth visiting to see its impressive ancient citadel. In the 16th century, the Genoese built this impregnable citadel with sturdy fortifications that remain intact. Within the citadel are many atmospheric narrow alleyways, covered passageways, and quiet squares. Many restaurants and shops are found around the Place de la République.

Where To Stay In Bonifacio

If you want to spend a few nights in Bonifacio, you can choose an accommodation in the heart of the city, near the port or the Citadel. From there, you will have an easy access to all the citys must-see attractions!

You can also opt for a stay a bit further from the city, if youre looking for quieter holidays.

To help you choose the perfect accommodation, here is my selection of the best hotels in Bonifacio, depending on where you want to stay and your budget.

Best hotels in Bonifacios surroundings:

Propriano And The Valinco Bay

The Valinco Bay is one of the most scenic beach areas in Corsica. Sumptuously sandy beaches, turquoise seas, and the distinctive granite boulders of the south. The surrounding scenery is green and serene, some of the nicest on the island. Its ideal for a tranquil beach vacation.

But the main beach resort itself the town of Propriano has a lively buzz centred around its cafe life and harbour restaurants. Although a popular resort it still retains a strong authentic identity and hasnt been taken over by souvenir shops and the like.

Stay at the plush Hotel Bartaccia or the Miramar Corsica, or comfortable modern rooms at the beachfront Le Lido.

Around Propriano, there are some beautiful quiet villages and bays worth exploring. Highlights include:

Last Stop Of Our Tour Of South Corsica Bonifacio Was By Far

Best Places to Visit in Corsica | D81 Drive | Creeks of Piana | Galeria | Road Trip | Part 4|

Last stop of our tour of South Corsica, Bonifacio was by far the most beautiful city we visited with its stunning limestone cliffs! Numerous walking paths around the city enable endless sightseeing on the turquoise sea and the cliffs. Attractions there were quite affordable: boat trip to the Lavezzi Islands, entrance to the ‘Bastion de l’Etendard’ and the Aragon King’s stairs. A great place to eat is ‘Kissing pigs’ on the Port: excellent service and value for money!

Where To Stay In Northern Corsica

Visitors traditionally stick to the south coast, huddling around ritzy, yacht-choked Porto-Vecchio, so the north remains an insider’s secret – a charmed part, little explored and much less developed, where national parks spread for miles, and peaks give way to small fishing villages and perfect bays of powdery white sand lapped by opalescent waves. The drive to Cap Corse, a 30km peninsula at the very tip of the island, takes you along the shoreline, every bend revealing a beach more beautiful than the last. The road turns inwards and upwards, into the shadow of hills, past cypress and pine trees, orchards and olive groves, up to Oletta, a lovely village of stone houses and terracotta roofs and the location of a smart hotel, U Palazzu Serenu.

A 17th-century villa wedged into the hillside, this grey-and-white temple to minimalism is the work of Nathalie Battesti, a protégée of Andrée Putman and Christian Liaigre. Although it resembles a Florentine palazzo, the hotel is rigorously up-to-the-minute, with contemporary art on the walls, modern sculpture in the lobby and not a hair out of place. The female staff wear white. White shirts, white skirts, white plimsolls. They resemble yacht crew or chic Nurse Ratcheds, but of course far kinder and more solicitous, serving my husband and me drinks as we loll on white sofas on the wooden deck beside the small restaurant – also white. When I ask for olives with the drinks, they bring tapenade with geometrically placed crispbreads.
