What To Do In Cozumel
If you get to do just one thing in Cozumel, make it scuba diving.
And luckily for you, if youre staying at a place like the Occidental Cozumel, Cozumel Palace, or the Intercontinental Presidente Cozumel, you have access to some of the best reefs and can get certified to dive right on the spot.
These hotels, along with a few others on the island, offer a variety of dive programs. At the Occidental, you can take a course in the morning in their pool with a certified instructor and head out for the real thing by the afternoon.
And not only will you get to learn, but youll get to learn in peace, as these dives are for small groups only, unlike the massive 20-50 person boats that take cruisers around snorkeling. This way youll have the personal attention you need as a new diver, and you’ll get to experience something truly magical under the sea.
If you cant or dont want to dive, you can always tag along for a snorkel. While you wont be able to travel as deep into the ocean, it will still be just as memorable of an experience. And, if youre lucky and the winds are right, the guides at the hotels will take you to a place known as El Cielo, or Heaven. Here, people can snorkel around the sandy bottom beach that is home to thousands of giant starfish.

Travel To Mexico With Kids
Before you go, here are some things families traveling with kids to Mexico should keep in mind:
Travel documents for kids: Everyone in the family should have their travel documents in order. Children need passports, and in some situations, they may also need to present a letter of permission from one or both parents.
Feeding picky eaters: If you’ll be staying at a resort, there are buffets where kids can pick and choose and will almost always find something to their liking. If you’re venturing out and about, you can keep an eye out for these kid-friendly Mexican dishes.
Dont Miss Diving Or At Least Snorkeling
As you noticed, I included a diving mention in the when to visit section because diving is one of the best, if not the best activity you can do in Cozumel.
The island has been blessed with some of the most stunning reefs in the world, which are part of the second-largest barrier reef in the world , known as the Mesoamerican Reef or the Great Mayan Reef. It extends over 600 miles from the north of Yukatan, at Contoi island to the Bay of islands in Honduras.
Most reefs in Cozumel are in fact of the Arrecifes de Cozumel National Park, so they are protected and kept as pristine as possible. From my experience, I can say that the sites in Cozumel are among the most beautiful and diverse Ive dived to date.
As I mentioned previously, I dove with ScubaTony, which I highly recommend as theyve been one of the most professional dive shops Ive experienced to date. Not only are they excellent at what they do, but they also allow you the flexibility of choosing your dive spots if your fellow divers are also cool with the idea of diving that particular spot.
This happened to me on one dive when I really wanted to do the WWII shipwreck known as C-53 or Felipe Xicoténcatl. I asked my divemaster if we could do it, he told me to share it with the group to get a consensus. Once I did, everyone was happy with the idea!

How To Access The Crystal Clear Waters Of The Paradise Reef
It is the first reef you will see upon entering the Marine Park. Located in the western part of Cozumel, Paradise Reef is one of the most visited snorkeling sites on the island.
Many types of fishes frequent this reef. Snorkelers sometimes find themselves enveloped inside passing schools of fish on the way to the bottom where they are bound to enjoy the large coral heads and snappers that swim idly below it. The majestic Queen Angelfish, red seahorse, and cute Trunkfish may also find here.
During some rare instances, you will also be able to see a nicely camouflaged Scorpion Fish hiding in the crevices of a coral head. Divemasters warn snorkelers and divers not to touch them because they are poisonous. There are many other creatures to see such as schools of Grunts, Snappers, and Sergeant Majors and an assortment of nice sponges.
