While December may not be the ideal month to visit Europe, it can actually be a lot of fun and you won’t have much competition at the famous sights. Unless you have a special reason to do so, it’s best to avoid northern Europe and even most of central Europe in winter. But that still leaves most of the most famous cities, which will be filled with shopping and working locals until just before Christmas.
Below you’ll find our list of the best cities to consider for a Europe trip in December. With a bit of advance planning you should be able to get cheap flights between most of these as well, so you can visit several of them as long as you allow about 3 days in each. The North Georgia Mountains
With so many incredible things to do in Georgia year round, its no wonder that in the winter, the North Georgia mountains shine! On the border of the Appalachian Mountains, North Georgia is made up of many cities including Blue Ridge, Cartersville, Dahlonega, Ellijay, Helen, Hiawassee, and Rome, to name a few.
In the winter, these mountain towns have great hiking, camping, ice skating rinks, and hot tubbing. Relax at a mountain cabin and cozy up by a fireplace for the perfect winter vacation in the south.
Winter in Georgia is mild with little snow averaging only 3 inches per year, and temperatures ranging from the 30s to 50s in the North. However, occasionally it can snow in a bigger storm and if this is the case, go to the mountains! Nothing like seeing rushing waterfalls blanketed in fresh snow . I recommend Tallulah Gorge, Minnehaha Falls, or Amicalola Falls.
If I had to choose one city to visit in the winter, it would be Helen, Georgia. This Bavarian village is so unique with authentic German food, architecture, and lovely holiday celebrations. Stay in the Bear Creek Lodge and Cabins for the cozy, mountain cabin feel or the Heidi Motel for a European feel. Be sure to grab a bite to eat from Bodensee for authentic German cuisine like brats!
North Georgia is the perfect winter vacation in the south if youre looking to escape intense cold and snow, or if you want great hiking without the snowshoes!

How Warm Are The Canary Islands At Christmas
These are actual photos we took in Tenerife in December and also in early January.
During the daytime, the temperatures in the south often go above 20°C, up to a max of 26 – 28°C. The weather is hot enough to sit on the beach and even enjoy a swim in the ocean.
The average temperature for the ocean water in the Canary Islands in December is around 20°C, which may be too cold for some, but many people still enjoy a good swim after a few hours in the sun.
During the winter months, you can look for hotels or villas with heated pools, where the water is warm enough for swimming all year long.
Water parks in Tenerife like Siam Park and Aqualand are still open in December and in fact all year long and the water is warm enough to enjoy the rides. Other smaller aqua parks like the one located in Corralejo, in Fuerteventura, are closed during the winter months.

Los Cristianos has 2 popular beaches: one is Los Cristianos Beach, which is a sandy beach with amenities like showers and a children’s playground, making it attractive for families with small kids. The other beach is Playa Las Vistas, which is man-made and also features showers and allows for practicing water sports.
For families traveling with kids, you can also make a day trip to , which is a fantastic zoo situated very close to Los Cristianos and you can get the free shuttle bus to get there. Puerto De Santiago Is A Good Place For A Quiet Holiday In Tenerife
Puerto de Santiago is located very close to Los Gigantes and here you get the lovely sunny weather of the south, combined with the chilled atmosphere specific to this part of Tenerife.
But what makes Puerto de Santiago such a great place for a quiet and relaxing holiday?
The main thing is that there are no noisy clubs like in Playa de Las Americas, so the younger crowds are not attracted to this part of the island. There are however some nice and fun restaurants like The Chicken Shack, and you can easily go to either Playa La Arena or Los Gigantes as well for a change of scenery.
There are no big commercial centers in the area but there is a Mercadona, a Lidl or a Hiperdino in case you go self-catering.
