There are very few quality budget hotels in Denver, and those that do exist, are mostly outside the city center by Denver International Airport, which lies about 30 miles away. But you’ll find a few good budget choices in the vicinity of the downtown area. One option is the Mainstay Suites, which is just west of the city center and easily accessible to it. The property is new and quite clean, and rooms come with a kitchenette, which makes it a great choice for families. The staff is friendly and professional.

The rooms are clean and well-appointed for the price bracket, and the included breakfast is better than average, with some hot selections.

    Resort fee: None

Pros: While the property has a streamlined list of amenities, its enviable location in Cherry Creek means tons of places to visit are within easy reach.

Cons: The hotel charges a $100 fee to guests who bring a pet. Considering other hotels with similar overnight rates don’t charge for pets at all, this could be a prohibitive expense.

Dever Was Mostly What I Expected

Dever was mostly what I expected- walkable, friendly locals, weird art and so much to see and do. However, I was surprised to see how desperate the situation appears for the homeless people in the area. I had young children with me, and several times while walking through the downtown area, I felt the situation was unsafe due to the behavior of people loitering around tourists areas. One person was shouting threats to people passing by. We still enjoyed our trip, but it definitely paid to be aware as we traveled through the city.
