There Is Much To Do In Falmouth

All About It: Where to Stay on Cape Cod

There is much to do in Falmouth. We rode our bikes on the bike path and the roads were generally friendly to bike riders. There were many beaches and Woods Hole was nearby as was the ferry to Martha’s Vineyard. We enjoyed the food at LandFall in Woods Hole and Soparano’s. For lunch, definitely go to the Pickle Jar.

Cape Cod Vacation Towns For Nature Lovers

Our glorious Atlantic Ocean coastline is home to the perfect towns for vacationers who love Mother Nature in all her glory:

These best thing about these towns is that they’re a wonderful blend of back-to-nature environment, very little commercialism, and easy access to traditional tourist activities and attractions whenever you’re in the mood for a little more action.

From the suburban comforts of Orleans, to the family beaches of Eastham, to the “middle-of-nowhere” feel of Wellfleet and Truro …

These towns are the perfect vacation spots for anyone who loves kayaking, biking, touring lighthouses, whale watching, having beach campfires, fishing, and playing in the Ocean surf.

For week-long or longer stays in this area, a vacation rental is definitely the way to go for lodging. For shorter stays, there are plenty of traditional accommodations in Orleans, Eastham and North Truro, and nice B& Bs everywhere.

When it’s time to go out for a bite to eat, you’ll find a good selection of restaurants of all flavors and price ranges within a few mile drive of anywhere you’re staying.

The only possible “downside” to staying in these towns is that many of the lodgings and dining establishments close down for the off-season.

If you’re planning to visit any time from mid-October to mid-May, your best bet for lodging and dining will be in Orleans, or all the way north in Provincetown.

Visit The Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution

The Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution is a great place to visit if youre looking to learn more about, and gain a deeper appreciation of, the amazing wildlife that lives in the local waters. In fact, were so lucky to have the Oceanographic Institution right here in Falmouth because its a world-leading non-profit organization dedicated to ocean research and education.

During your visit, youll be able to explore exhibits dedicated to educating visitors about the exciting things happening beneath the oceans surface, and also ask to speak to a real scientist that will be able to answer all your questions. This is such a great and important hidden gem in the area!

Falmouth MA: Your First Beach Stop on Cape Cod

In October the Wellfleet Oysterfest draws in huge crowds to this part of Cape Cod that is true beach country. The Cape Cod National seashore beaches here are simply amazing and all year round surfers can be found taking advantage of the excellent conditions. There are many lighthouses in this part of the Cape and exceptional hiking trails. Life here is more seasonal and many of the restaurants and facilities only open in the summer. The clam shacks are some of the best on the Cape and the way of life is very much beach, beach and more beach.

Much of the accommodation in this area is in private holiday home rentals if they are not already occupied by their owners and their families!

Spend The Afternoon In Sandwich

Sandwich is a great little town on Cape Cod thats only about 30 minutes from Falmouth, and when someone stays in one of these two towns, I always recommend popping over to the other for an afternoon because theyre both worth your time!

One of the best things to do in Falmouth, MA is to head over to Sandwich, the oldest town on the Cape thats packed with history. Theres also some nice shopping in town, a historic grist mill and a beautiful beach with a boardwalk over salt marshes. Sandwich is also home to my favorite brewery on Cape Cod, Treehouse Brewing, which is a really great way to spend a few hours.

Best Beaches In Falmouth Ma

Ive already talked about Old Silver Beach, which is my favorite in Falmouth, but there are lots of other beaches in town that are worth visiting. Heres a guide to a few other beaches to check out during your visit:

Surf Drive Beach And actually, taking a scenic drive along this road is another one of the best things to do in Falmouth, MA because of all the adorable beach shacks and great water views. But the beach here is also wonderful. Its often a little less crowded than Old Silver Beach , and youll find bathroom, shower and food facilities here.

Chapoquoit Beach This beach is a bit smaller than some of the others, but its still beautiful and worth a visit. This is also a great sunset spot! Youll find bathroom and food facilities here.

Menauhant Beach Located in East Falmouth, this beach is beautiful and tends to be a bit quieter than the others. Youll find bathroom facilities here for your convenience.

Tip: Like all beaches on Cape Cod, beaches in Falmouth will have either a beach sticker requirement, or a fee to park for the day in the summer season. Its best to research which beaches you want to visit during your stay, and plan accordingly.

Best Cape Cod Towns For Families With Kids

Would you like to stay in a town that offers an abundance of kid-approved stuff like miniature golf , souvenir shops, parks and playgrounds, teen-popular beaches, movie theaters, easy biking trails ?

Consider these towns and villages along Rt. 28 on Cape Cod’s southern shoreline:

Important FYI: Cape Cod is family friendly from one end to the other. The main reason I’ve chosen these towns and villages as the “best” for families with kids is because they offer pretty much everything your on-the-go gang could ask for.

Another factor that makes these towns attractive to vacationing families is: they offer an almost mind-boggling variety of very reasonably priced lodging options.

Whether you prefer a hotel or motel with a pool, a full-service resort with organized kids activities, or a reasonably priced beach cottage within walking or biking distance to everything – you won’t have to look far to find it.

Insider Tip: For those of you who’ve heard the tales of bumper-to-bumper summer traffic in this part of Cape Cod, let me put your mind at ease.

It’s true that Rt. 28 in Falmouth, Hyannis, West Yarmouth, South Yarmouth and into West Dennis is a busy stretch of road. And it’s a little too commercialized for some people’s tastes.

But … once you get off Rt. 28 and onto the side streets, it’s a whole different world. More quaint, much more quiet, and considerably less traffic-y.

So please, don’t let the nay-sayers scare you away from staying in one of these towns!
