Even during the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic, it is possible to enter Germany for urgent medical reasons. Urgent medical reasons may exist if a treatment can only be performed in Germany or at least cannot be performed in the persons country of origin or has already begun in Germany, and if failure to receive the treatment would be life-threatening or could cause serious long-term damage. To prove that this is the case, the person to be treated will need a medical certificate, such as this form, to be filled in by the attending physician in Germany.
The person may enter with up to two necessary accompanying persons.
Under the ordinance governing entry during the coronavirus pandemic , travellers are also required to complete digital registration on entry to present proof of a negative COVID-19 test result, proof of vaccination or proof of recovery from COVID-19 and to comply with the quarantine regulations depending on the risk status of the country of departure.

You can get into the town by bus, car or even through a train. Many of the towns have a rail connection to Füssen, so it will not be hard for you to catch a train. However, if you are on a tight budget, the bus will be the cheapest way to get into Füssen.
If youre looking to get away from the busy city life, Füssen will be the perfect travel destination for you. Visiting this place will make you feel like youve somehow traveled back in time into some magical town from a fairytale book.

There are heaps of places to eat in the Altstadt. Bavarian cuisine is typically served, but other types of cuisine are also available.

Fssen Is A Gorgeous Old Town
Füssen is a gorgeous old town. Its just delightful to walk or bike around this medieval town. The surrounding areas are breathtaking and being just 8 min away from the famous castles of Ludwig II, its Just fabulous. We stayed 3 nights and 4 days and it was too short. Next time, we will book a week. One of the highlights was seeing the Emerald green Lech River and the Alps in the background. It was amazing. So peaceful, beautiful and relaxing. So much history and beauty to take in. Just go! Youll be glad you did
Why Stay In Schwangau
Really, the only reason why I personally recommend a hotel in Hohenschwangau is to get castle views.
There is pretty much NOTHING in the villages themselves . Youd pretty much have to go into Füssen anyway to get a selection of restaurants, sightsee a cute town, etc.
However, if you are looking for some pretty boutique or luxury options, then Schwangau could be a good option for you
Please Note: Most hotels directly in Schwangau and Hohenschwangau are going to be on the pricier side. You are paying for the view!

Why Stay In Garmisch To Visit Neuschwanstein
- You can stay in the area longer without having to hop around to too many hotels in a short amount of time
- It is only about 1.5 hours between the two, making it an easy day trip
- There is SO much to do in the Garmisch area as well
Note: You may be tempted to seek out the bus between Garmisch and Neuschwanstein. While this is, of course, an option, I actually dont recommend it. It takes about 2 hours and makes lots of stops along the way.

Another awesome thing to do when youre in Fussen is to visit the Maxsteg an der Füssener Klamm-Fall. This area in Füssen looks amazing after a rainfall, and you will not want to miss it if youre ever in town. The water looks amazing from the Lech Bridge, and it is a cool place to hang out with your friends.The area also has a deck and restrooms, so you will find lots of places to sit and enjoy the water. What makes this location special is the dark turquoise water, which looks amazing during the day.

Fussen sits at the southern end of one of Germanys most popular scenic routes, the Romantic Road, so it makes a great base from which to explore the other towns and villages that are dotted along this picturesque stretch of road.
One of the highlights is the pilgrimage church, Wieskirche, a UNESCO World Heritage site that attracts about a million people every year. Built in the early 18th century to house a statue of Christ that was seen to be weeping, the Baroque church is one of the best known in Bavaria. .

Munich To Neuschwanstein Day Trip
Doing a day trip to Neuschwanstein is one of the many Day Trips from Munich that I suggest. You have three main ways to get from Munich to Neuschwanstein.
Sure, it is going to be a full and long day, but it is easy enough and means having to do less hotel hopping.
Why just do a day trip? Of course, there is PLENTY to fill your time with things to do in the Alps, but for most people, they have a limited schedule . So, unless one of your top priorities is just hanging out in the mountains, instead of finding accommodation near Neuschwanstein castle, doing a long day trip can sometimes be more ideal.
Top tip for doing Neuschwanstein As a Day Trip?Rent a car and have the flexibility to go when you want, stop at the Linderhof Castle as well, and have really enjoyable day!
Benedictine Monastery Of St Mang
The Benedictine Monastery of St. Mang is another special place in Füssen that you must go and see. This former monastery, built during the 9th century, is a hotspot for tourists for many reasons. First of all, the structure is quite fascinating in and of itself since it is one of the oldest structures in Füssen. Whats even more special is what the monastery contains inside.This several-century-old building houses some of the most important cultural artifacts of Füssen. You will find the Museum of Füssen in the southwest wing of the monastery, which contains important works of art and also archaeological discoveries from the town. You will also find some of the oldest Fresco of Bavaria well preserved inside the building. If you are more interested in this little towns cultural and historical aspects, the Benedictine Monastery of St. Mang should be intriguing for you. Rest assured, you will definitely have a great time exploring this old monastery.

Forggensee is the fifth largest lake in Bavaria, and the Tegelbergbahn mountain cable car offers access to hiking and mountain biking trails or ski slopes in the winter.
The famed Romantic Road ends at Schwangau and Fussen, offering several beautiful German villages within a days reach. If you are deciding where to stay near Neuschwanstein Castle but would like other things to do, Schwangau is an excellent choice.

Probably the most mentioned hotel when researching where to stay near Neuschwanstein Castle is the Hotel Zum Hechten in Füssen.
The Hotel Zum Hechten offers simple, clean, modern rooms inside a traditional family-owned hotel that has been in operation for more than 350 years. They serve regional cuisine in their on-site restaurant and pride themselves on traditional charm throughout. They, too, have an in-house sauna.
Because this hotel is in Füssen, were finally past the walking distance portion of the program. However, Hotel Zum Hechten is just a 7-minute drive to the ticket center in Hohenschwangau or a 10-minute bus journey.
In exchange for its proximity to Neuschwanstein Castle you get a 1-minute walk to the historic center of fabulous Füssen. Also, if youre planning to arrive or depart by train, the Füssen train station is just a 7-minute walk away.
