This Peruvian restaurant has a separate page in the menu for vegetarian options where you can find some delicious dishes. The portions and large and the food is flavoursome. A great option after a whole day of exploring.

La Pradera del Arenal sits west of downtown La Fortuna along Road 142.Approximate drive time from downtown La Fortuna to La Pradera del Arenal: 4 minutes
Tucked away off the main road that curves around the Arenal Volcano is La Pradera del Arenal, which is essentially two hotels in one: a one-story, motel-style hotel and a collection of individual wooden cabins. Regardless of which accommodation you pick, youll have access to a seating area on a covered front porch where you can take in a view of the Arenal Volcano and the propertys landscaped gardens, which include palms, ferns, and colorful heliconias. Inside each room are beds, a television, a mini-fridge, a safe, and a bathroom. Around the property, you can swim in pools, relax poolside on lounge chairs under Tiki-style shades, or play billiards in the open-air games room. Breakfast is complimentary.
What we love best: Providing a view of the volcano thats comparable to the view obtained at many other La Fortuna hotels, this hotel is a fraction of the cost of many other hotels in the vicinity.

Around this time last year my family had the opportunity to visit La Fortuna, Costa Rica. This area is home to Arenal National Park, Lake Arenal, Mistico Arenal Hanging Bridges, Arenal Waterfall and so much more. With the possibility of being able to travel again on the horizon, I am dreaming of a return. Heres why!
La Fortuna, Costa Rica may be a small town on the map, but it wont take you long to realize why its a popular vacation destination. For starters, it has absolutely breath-taking scenery and epic landscapes. Over recent years its evolved into a place that has a little of everything, whether youre hoping to find an escape where you can kick back and relax, or youre ready for your next adventurous getaway.
These are some of the places youll want to visit while youre there, along with the places to stay, and a few of the best places to eat.
Tabacon Grand Spa Thermal Resort
If youve seen any photos of the hot springs in Arenal, most likely youve seen the ones at Tabacon. The resort offers the natural hot springs as part of a package so if its your goal to visit those specific hot springs, its best to book the package that includes a free shuttle to and from the springs.
Rooms have vaulted ceilings and are decorated with a vibrant nature feel. Each has a private balcony and large bathtub, complete with five star amenities. Upgrade to a suite on the second floor for even bigger rooms and better views.

La Fortuna Waterfall Was Incredible
La Fortuna waterfall was incredible. A little bit of a hike down but totally worth the climb back up. My wife and I brought our suits and loved jumping in the refreshing water at the bottom of the waterfall. The force of the falling water is so powerful you can’t even swim up to it if you wanted to. We then followed the stream down to relax in the watering hole and shallow stream area. So peaceful and relaxing.
Puerto Viejo Most Romantic Stay In Costa Rica
Puerto Viejo has some of the best beaches and hotels in Costa Rica, located in southeastern Costa Rica, close to the Panama border and right on the breathtaking Caribbean coast, this area of Costa Rica is well known for its black sand beach. However, you can still spot some rainforests and mangroves in the area. This is a perfect place for a romantic getaway and adults will love this Costa Rican gem! It will take you almost 5 hours to get here from the airport.
If youre looking for where to stay in Costa Rica, where you can get the full local experience then Puerto Viejo can be your top choice. It has locals of both Afro-Caribbean and indigenous descent.
Im always looking to get that local vibe when Im traveling and here you can explore around, maybe do some hiking, visit the indigenous communities and find out more about their traditions and language.

Visit The Venado Caves
The Venado Caves, located just outside of La Fortuna, just north of the Mistico Hanging Bridges are a wonderful series of underground caves and caverns waiting to be explored. These caves were formed by tectonic plate shifting and erosion by underwater rivers some 15-20 million years ago.
If youre interested in discovering more about Costa Ricas natural history then here youll be able to gaze at stalagmites and stalactites that formed over millions of years as well as get to know the wildlife that lives here- bats, frogs and tarantulas and see some ancient marine fossils too.
You can drive yourself and visit the Venado Caves alone but if you want to be sure to spot some wildlife and find out more about the history of the caves Id recommend a guided tour. This one is one of the best rated online.
Get An Up Close View Of Arenal Volcano
Arenal Volcano is Costa Ricas most popular and well-recognized volcano. Towering 1,633 meters above the surrounding lowlands of La Fortuna, Arenal is a prominent feature that you certainly cant miss. Its a large symmetrical stratovolcano, thats built from layers of rock, ash, and lava. Up until recently, it was Costa Ricas most active volcano.
While you cant hike up the actual volcano, you can get an up close look by hiking the trails in Arenal Volcano National Park, Mirador El Silencio, or the Arenal 1968 trails. Along the trails, youll find extensive lava flows from prior eruptions and experience the unique micro-climates and ecosystems in the region.
For the absolute best, close up view of the volcano , I recommend exploring the trails around Mirador El Silencio.

For some of the best hiking in Costa Rica and for the chance to get close to Arenal Volcano, the National Park offers a number of different trails to hike in a day or even half a day. While you cant hike to the top of the volcano , there are many trails that lead around the base of the volcano.
Hike on a clear day and youll be rewarded with incredible views of Arenal volcano and the surrounding countryside. The trails arent particularly strenuous and suitable for all.

La Fortuna seemed like a bit of a foodie town, with tons of restaurant options and a good mix of international and local cuisine. The local restaurants are called sodas and they serve plates of typical Costa Rican food for very cheap, usually around $5 per plate. International restaurants and cafes will cost about $10 and up.

How Many Days Do You Need In La Fortuna
That is a tough one. You could easily spend a couple of weeks here. But there are so many other areas of Costa Rica to also explore. I think four to five days on a 10 day Costa Rica itinerary is appropriate.
La Fortuna is not an easy day trip, so I would recommend a couple of nights at a minimum.
The Guanacaste area of Costa Rica has the most beautiful sunsets. Be sure not to miss Playa Potrero and Playa Flamingo on your trip.
Manuel Antonio is another top Costa Rica destination. And, some of the most beautiful beaches in Costa Rica are on the Caribbean Coast in the Puerto Viejo area.
Monteverde Cloud Forest is another destination you may want to include on your itinerary.

Is La Fortuna Worth Visiting
Yes! After dreaming about Costa Rica travel for years, I am glad I chose to visit La Fortuna. This area in the northern central part of Costa Rica was everything I hoped it would behome of the most famous Costa Rica volcano, hot springs, gorgeous rainforests, and tons of outdoor adventures. The only thing La Fortuna is missing that I wish I experienced in Costa Rica is an ocean beach.
