Best Hotel In Summertown: Lina Guest House
Thanks to its great location in Summertown, this is one of my favourite options for Oxford accommodation. It is close to popular tourist attractions and is a quick trip from Oxford City Centre. This charming property has family-sized rooms, free wifi, and a great selection of contemporary amenities.
Where To Stay In Oxford: Mid
One of the top mid-range properties is in the suburb of Summertown. The Burlington House Hotel is on a quiet street just a block from where the bus running into the city center stops.
Inside a Victorian home, it’s a classic B& B with 12 individually decorated and brightly-colored rooms featuring comfortable beds, flatscreen TVs, and free Wi-Fi.
The included breakfast is delicious and comes with hot and continental selections. There is free parking on-site and a relaxing Japanese garden courtyard.
The rooms at the Travelodge Oxford Wheatley are quite cozy for a budget hotel, with bright colors and art on the walls. The family-friendly hotel is also pet friendly. Amenities include free parking and a 24-hour front desk. There is no restaurant on-site, but the hotel is just 2.5 miles from Iffley Village.
Oxford City Centre The Best Area To Stay In Oxford
Of course, Oxford City Centre is the default top choice for anyone looking to stay in Oxford. Home to the oldest buildings in Oxford, the most well-known museums and Oxford University buildings, as well as tons of shopping streets and dining options, the city centre has it all.
Best known for being home to Oxfords oldest colleges, no trip to central Oxford would be complete without taking in the stunning historic architecture. If you really want to learn about the history of the area, you can take a guided walking tour or open-top bus ride around the main sites.
A quick walk down the high street will take you past many of the best-known locations you will have seen on postcards. The iconic, domed Radcliffe Camera sits just behind the 11th century University Church of St Mary the Virgin, with access via two narrow alleyways.
Just beyond the Camera you can see the most famous of Oxfords libraries, the Bodleian. A few steps past the Bodleian and youll find another of Oxfords most photographed locations. The Bridge of Sighs connects two college buildings over New College Lane.
Just a short walk away is the renowned Ashmolean Museum, just across from the stunning . Meanwhile, just south is the 12th century Carfax Tower, which tourists can still climb to appreciate views of the surrounding city.

Whats cheaper than renting an entire apartment? Renting a piece of an entire apartment! These rooms are available at a great price for the area, and youll have access to all the shared facilities. Its only a short walk from the centre, or you can grab the bus from outside! This is one of the more affordable Airbnbs in Oxford and it certainly doesnt disappoint.

Abingdon Quiet Area Overlook The River Thames
Abingdon is a small market town a short ways south of Oxford. Situated on the river Thames, Abingdon is ideal for experiencing quaint, local town England, away from the bustle of the city.
If you want to stay close enough to visit Oxfords many sights and attractions, but dont enjoy the crowds of the city centre, Abingdon is a fantastic option for you. Oxford City Centre is just a few miles away. Just 20 minutes by car, and under 40 minutes by bus.
Whilst it may be quieter than Oxford City, there is still plenty to see and do in Abingdon too. Abingdon is full of history and traditional charm. From its centuries old buildings, to its cosy local pubs, youll really get a feel for small town England here.
As a historic market town, a variety of markets are held here throughout the year. Every Monday, one of Englands oldest markets sets up in the town centre. Meanwhile, most weekends host one of several monthly markets. Theyre all a great opportunity to sample some local delicacies and produce.

From one hipster area to the next, Jericho is another of my favourite places to stay in Oxford.

Situated in the north of the city, this area is a true melting pot of the best Oxford has to offer. You would be forgiven for mistaking Jericho for a London suburb, with its pastel houses and independent cafes.
Bars and Restaurants
For the best food, try lemon sole and summer pudding at Lussmans sustainable restaurant, or opt for excellent Thai food at Giggling Squid.
Of course, no trip to this north Oxford spot would be complete without a visit to Love Jericho. This fabulous cocktail bar creates the centrepiece for the eclectic independent scene in the city. I recommend the chilli-chocolate martini to get your night off with a bang!
Additionally, there are two fantastic museums nearby. Visit Britains first public museum, Ashmolean Museum of Art and Archaeology, to enjoy an extensive and varied collection of archaeology from all over the world. Admission here is free, and the venue holds regular exhibitions such as the current Tokyo: Art & Photography, which is running until January 2022.
Port Meadow
When you tire of exploring the city vibes, head to Port Meadow for a relaxing stroll. This serene slice of the countryside, just a stones throw away from the hustle of Jericho, is what makes Oxford so wonderfully unique.

The Tower House City Centre
This 17th century townhouse has a fantastic central location, on the doorstep of Jesus and Exeter Colleges. If you want to be in the heart of things, its hard to beat: the old house is packed with character, with rooms squeezed into awkward spaces, and old beams jutting out from unexpected angles . Its simply but pleasantly furnished, but not all rooms are ensuite and there are some low ceilings and narrow staircases to navigate, so it can feel cramped when its full. Also, youll have to find breakfast elsewhere: The Oxford Brunch Bar on nearby George Street is a good bet.

How To Get Around
The Cotswolds is a rural area of England and while buses and trains do connect some of the villages and towns they are not that regular and many dont run on weekends. The easiest, and by far the most convenient way to get around is to drive. This way, you can collect tiny villages on the way to stately homes and not miss anything in between.

City Centre Where To Stay In Oxford On A Budget
The City Centre is also my number one choice for where to stay in Oxford on a budget. Dotted throughout the neighbourhood is a great selection of budget hotels and backpacker hostels as well as rental apartments, guesthouses, and B& Bs.
This neighbourhood is also where youll find a spectacular selection of cheap and delicious eats. Boasting everything from cheeky curries to fresh and delicious Thai dishes, the City Centre is a neighbourhood bursting with affordable and flavourful food from around the world.
Turl Street Kitchen & Tower House Rooms
Oxford, Oxfordshire, England
A quirky and unique place to stay bang in the centre of Oxford. The Turl Street Kitchen isnt a fancy restaurant with rooms but a down to earth one with a social conscience. It began life as a student initiative and now supports several Oxford charities. Big on sustainability and ethical sourcing, its a relaxed and popular gathering place for locals. Eat breakfast here each day and sleep just around the corner in the Tower House. There are 8 double rooms in the Grade II listed building . The 16th century tower and ancient city wall add extra character.
