Many who have stayed here believe that you can discover the soul of Paris after spending a few hours walking around Montmartre. Set on a large hill in the 18th arrondissement, Mount of Mars encapsulates all that is good about the art and soul of Paris.

Best Paris Neighborhood For First Time Visitors Who Want To Be Close To Top Attractions: Louvre/palais Royal/tuileries 1st Arrondissement

Are you planning your first trip to Paris and want to experience as many of the city’s most famous attractions as possible?

Staying in the lively 1st arrondissement neighborhood around the Louvre Museum and Tuileries Garden – sometimes called “Royal Paris” because French kings and queens once called this area “home” – puts you close to many of Paris’s most famous sightseeing destinations. And, if you’re not sure about your ability to speak well in French, you’ll appreciate how much English and other world languages are spoken in this district.

This is where you’ll find the Mona Lisa at the Louvre, spectacular stained glass at Sainte Chapelle, the almost-hidden Palais Royal Garden, designer boutiques along Rue Saint Honoré, sparkling jewelers around Place Vendôme, and one of the city’s elegant 19th century arcades, Galerie Vero Dodat. Tuileries Garden offers gorgeous places to sit and relax, a fun carnival in the summer, and the city’s liveliest Christmas Market in November and December. You can stroll along the Seine River or savor an evening dinner cruise, sip the rich hot chocolate at Angelina’s, and explore jazz clubs along Rue des Lombards.

You’ll see wonderful places to eat on just about every street and avenue in this neighborhood – everything from casual bakery/cafes to romantic bistros to Michelin-starred restaurants to the city’s best Asian cuisine along Rue Sainte Anne.

Who doesnt want to fall in love in this city?

Where is the best place to stay in Paris for couples? I believe they are in the hilly Montmartre area , close to the Pigalle and Blanche metro stations.

Staying in Montmartre is like sleeping and waking up in a French village however with a view of the city and its marvelous roofs.

And once in the street, you will walk through small lanes made of cobblestones with tiny cafes and restaurants. Its romantic at its best. You will feel part of a Cezanne or a Van Gogh painting.

Van Gogh lived here for 2 years, in 1886, and he dedicated a group of work to Montmartre. Have a check to its series of Le Moulin de la Galette and visit the place, still existing, although used by a restaurant

How can you not fall in love with this area?

I could spend hours drinking coffee and wine just watching life passing by, especially in the evening. I still remember my last time there, trying to communicate with my little French .

Try to stay close to the Pigalle or Blanche metro. Montmartre is beautiful however most of the famous attractions are far away and you really need to take the underground.

You have also the uber and the taxi option. Just keep in mind the peak hour traffic. For the night, uber works fantastic and cheaper too.

What Is The Best Time Of Year To Visit Paris

There is nothing that compares to a printemps or springtime stroll through the Tuileries garden in Paris, when the liquid sunlight bathes your skin and temperatures hover in the high 60s and low 70s later in the season. It is truly a magical time to experience Paris, a mix of tourists and locals emerging from hibernation in good spirits.

If you do visit in the summer, keep in mind that in August, many French people take their holidays, and some businesses may be closed. As a rule of thumb, it’s best to check ahead of time if you have your eye on visiting something specific. And while over the past few years the city has made efforts to open more businesses and shops on Sunday, it’s still relatively common to find a closed sign on the door then.

Paris winters are mostly gray, with chilly, but tolerable temperatures. Observing the City of Light all dressed up in twinkling lights around the holidays is dream-like, as is feasting on traditional Bûche de Noël .

Where To Stay In Paris: 7 Amazing Neighborhoods

Top 10 Best Romantic Places in Paris

Paris was one of my first international travel experiences after I graduated from college and left the US for the first time in my life. I took French for years in school, and I was incredibly excited to put it to good use in Paris. I distinctly remember the first time I spoke French to a Parisian and she spoke back to me in French, rather than English . I was elated Id finally made it!

That elation continued for me throughout that first trip to Paris, which was full of walks along the Seine and museum-hopping, and immediately returned when I returned two years later. That second trip was much less about hitting every museum, and much more about getting lost in the winding streets of Paris neighborhoods .

Fast forward almost a decade, and the ultra-romantic, cosmopolitan and a mecca for food, art, architecture has called me back once again, and I found myself planning a weeklong Parisian adventure that gave us plenty of time to immerse ourselves in the city. And, surprisingly, despite a decade since the last time I spoke French, it came back by the third day and I was getting compliments on how well I spoke for an American.

For those in the planning stages, the first question that usually comes to mind is where to stay in Paris. Each neighborhood has its own distinct vibe and pros and cons, and selecting the right one according to your preferences and travel style is pretty essential for putting together an amazing trip. So where do you even start?

Le Roch Hotel And Spa

When Le Roch opened, the local parish priest and the headmistress from the school around the corner dropped by to say hello. They must be pretty chic pastoral types certainly they’re tending their flocks in a very smart neighbourhood adjacent to the Place Vendôme. But somehow the gesture seems just right. Le Roch, despite its velvety textured swishiness and its fancy address, has a winningly unaffected aura. You sense it the moment you step inside off the rue Saint-Roch a quiet byway hidden among the grand thoroughfares that dominate this part of the city. There’s an easy flow from lobby through to library, bar, dining room and courtyard. The space is small enough to seem intimate, big enough to seem buzzy an agreeable balance that characterises the hotel as a whole. Designer Sarah Lavoine’s rooms are elegant but not flamboyant, imaginative but not ostentatious. She has a particular fondness for bleu de canard and subtle Moroccan elements: zellige tiles in the bathrooms and thick, contemporary Berber carpets that feel great underfoot. Staff are enthusiastic and on-it. There’s no attitude but bundles of know-how. Benjamin Camus-Durand is, at 25, the youngest head concierge to have been awarded the Clefs d’Or. The spa is a strong draw. Guests can order their own personalised range of bespoke skincare products, whipped up by cult brand Codage following a consultation and delivered to the hotel 48 hours later.

Best Areas To Stay In Paris With A View Of Eiffel Tower

  • 7th arrondissement most central district, at a walking distance to many sights
  • Grenelle not so central, but still well-connected by public transport to the rest of the city

Dont stay in the 16th arrondissement. There are almost no tourist sights in the area and youll be too far from everything.

South Pigalle 9th Arrondissement

The Most Romantic Places to Kiss in Paris

One of the up and coming places to stay in Paris is South Pigalle in the 9th Arrondissement. Located walking distance from Montmartre, this area used to be the red light district of Paris, but in recent years it has started to emerge as the Williamsburg of Paris. With new boutique hotels popping up constantly, it is more geared towards the frequent visitor to Paris rather than the first time visitor.

There are bar and eateries for every type of interest and the atmosphere is both intimate and relaxed. There are great restaurants, cafes and bakeries and it is the perfect place to stay if you want to meld into the Paris lifestyle.

The best hotels in the area are a mix of boutique and mid range. So, if this isnt your first trip to Paris or you just want to avoid staying amongst the throngs of tourists by the Eiffel Tower, the 9th Arrondissement is probably one of the best areas you could choose to stay in Paris.

Holiday Inn Paris Notre Dame

When you have so many boutique hotels to compete with, its hard to be a fan of American chain hotels. The rooftop at the Holiday Inn Paris Notre Dame will change your mind.

The Holiday Inn is a comfortable, clean hotel in a great location in the Latin Quarter but the real draw is the insane rooftop views.

  • Take in the view of the Eiffel Tower, Notre Dame, and the picturesque Paris skyline while sipping a bottle of wine from the lobby bar.
  • Only a 5-minute walk from Notre Dame.
