To avoid crowds pick the months of May and September, or even until the middle of October because the weather in Santorini is still good at this time of the year.
Perissa Where To Stay In Santorini Near The Beach
Home of one of the famous black sand beaches of the Greek Islands, Perissa is the best option of where to stay in Santorini for the beach. Many Perissa accommodations are just a five minute walk from the beach. Perissa offers a more casual atmosphere than the nightlife hub of Fira, with several beach bars and restaurants. For a true nightlife scene, Fira is just 20 minutes away by car.
Perissa offers a wider range of budget accommodation because it doesnt offer the classic Santorini views of sunset and the Santorini Caldera. However, if you just want a laid back beach vacation with cheap food and drink options, Perissa is one of the best places to stay in in Santorini Greece.
Drink Tap Water With A Water Filtering Bottle
Ok, so you cant actually drink the tap water on Santorini straight up. Thats why our biggest recommendation will always be to have your own reusable bottle and filtration/sterilization device. This way, you always have safe drinking water for free!
There are a ton out there, but our favorite is the Grayl Geopress. Itll save you money on buying plastic bottles, and youll be saving the planet by reducing the amount of plastic you use. Theres also the Lifestraw which is a great option.

How To Visit Santorini On A Budget In 2022
Until this year, I never thought it was possible to visit Santorini on a budget. Traveling to Santorini wasnt part of my plans, unless I had to choose it as the starting point of a Greek island hopping itinerary. As Santorini is one of the Greek islands with airports, it can be a great home base for a cool island hopping adventure.
My Santorini trip cost was lower than expected. Furthermore, this beautiful island exceeded my expectations. I went to Santorini expecting to find a crazy expensive, flashy and touristy island, with very little to no charm. I only went there because I wanted a brief getaway before the winter and flights to Santorini by end September were dirt cheap.
Ive only spent four days in Santorini, but Ill be back for more, thats for sure. This article covers everything you need to know to visit Santorini on a budget: when to go, where to stay, what to do and how to avoid pricey tourist traps. Just before we start, I want to tell you that walking from Fira to Oia was one of the most amazing experiences in my life. Theres beauty all around. I highly recommend this walk.

Where To Stay In Oia And Where To Eat
Although the Oia centre is quite small the town stretches on the cliff for almost 1.5km.
Nowadays the edge of Oia is almost touching the edge of Finikia making a unique long town.
The most scenic part is the one closed to the Maritime Museum .
This is also the area with the widest choice of accommodation, although more on the boutique side.
If you are after a more dramatic accommodation with a sunset view and a pool overlooking the caldera then check on the centre-right of the map above.
The Canaves Oia Suites and the Katikies Hotel are both two great options

The village of Finikia, bordering Oia, is also another option, especially if you are looking for a more budget friendly accommodation.
The Oia Suites have an amazing view, a good size pool and a private external tub.
They are so close to Oia but better value. The hard thing is to find availability here.

Akrotiri Popular Day Trip Destination
The Akrotiri peninsula is a beguiling blend of old world rusticism and contemporary charm. Most noted for its Minoan ruins, Akrotiri is still very much a working village many of its inhabitants are farmers and craftsmen.
The original village was destroyed in the earthquake of 1956 and rebuilt at the base of its fortress, which had also been obliterated. Because the original town was built on the site of the ruins, guests are given a truly strange and magnificent glimpse into the past.
The mud-brick buildings and many of their artifacts can be viewed, with archaeologist-guided tours available by booking in advance.
The most popular beaches of Akrotiri are Red Beach, Vlichada, Perivolas,
Perissa, and Caldera Beach, although the surrounding tavernas claim a portion of that fame for themselves due to their freshly caught fish, generous ouzo pours, and relaxing atmosphere.
While many visitors choose to make Akrotiri a day trip destination, its worth noting that there are some lovely hotels and villas that offer a range of complimentary services and specialties, such as food, wine, and recommended sightseeing excursions.

Getting Around Santorini On A Budget
Santorini has a really good public bus system which I didnt expect and therefore makes it really cheap to visit and get around Santorini.
There is a public bus that runs from the main port to Fira so that ensures you do not need to get a taxi from the port to where youre staying. The public bus also serves the whole island including the popular places of Fira, Oia, Kamari, Perissa. Tickets are either 1.80 or 2.30 one way depending on the journey.

Eating And Drinking On Budget In Santorini
Eating in Santorini doesnt have to be expensive. Its the same as the accommodation, sure there are plenty of fancy restaurants but it is possible to get lunch for around 5.00-10.00 and a good main meal for 7.00-12.00, if not less.
Plus Gyros become your best friend when in Greece on a budget as they are just a couple of euro, so filling and so good!

Moreover, they are more affordable than hotels on Caldera with zero compromises on the deluxe treatment.
