We Loved The Town Centre Which Was Buzzing
We loved the town centre which was buzzing. There were lots of individual shops selling exciting products. We ate in the Old Course Hotel but also a lovely Italian meal in Little Italy. Best lasagne ever! Make sure you book as lots of people turned away as so popular!!!!Parking was not an issue and we found a parking place easily, but we also walked into town, as hotel was quite close and lots to divert us on the road to town. We loved the walk alongside the golf course and watching the golfers. We just wish we had longer to explore but we particularly enjoyed revisiting Anstruther and Ellie where we holidays as children more than 60 years ago.

Staying At The Algonquin Resort
This historic hotel is up on a hillside overlooking the sea. Its Tudor- style siding gives it an air of grandeur. It is the type of place that you can just picture women in Victorian dresses playing croquet on the front lawn back in the day. A wide veranda wraps around the front with rocking chairs perfectly positioned to relax with a cold drink in hand.
I walked into the lobby and was greeted by their sweet Labrador Retriever, Sydney. He was the cutest canine concierge I have ever met. Although our dog was not with us, the Algonquin Resort is pet-friendly. There is a fee of $35 CAD and pets are welcomed with a walking map, pet bowls, a souvenir collar tag and pet bed to use while they are at the resort.
The staff was very attentive and took the time to tell us about the resort and the different attractions in town that we should check out.
Our room was spacious and well-appointed. We were in a studio room with two queen-sized beds and a kitchenette, which is great to have when traveling with kids.
Although we had a full-sized fridge and oven, most studio rooms have a mini fridge and microwave. If you require the full setup, be sure to voice your preference when making a reservation.
We finally convinced them to shift to the outdoor pool, so we could order some lunch and get some sun. The food was delivered straight to the pool and it was excellent. It is such a family-friendly place and they had a great kids menu.
A Weekend In St Andrews Scotland: A 48
Packed with history, tradition and scenic views St Andrews is a real Scottish gem. This small city is set on the coast of Fife to the northeast of Edinburgh. Its been pulling in the visitors since its days on an ancient religious pilgrimage route and is still a magnet for students and golf-lovers. St Andrews picturesque streets are overflowing with charm, from the castle ruins to the university quads. And the student population means plenty of places to eat and drink too. Its only an hour away from Edinburgh so you could easily take a day trip, but its worth taking your time. So heres my 48-hour itinerary for a fantastic weekend in St Andrews.

Recently refurbished, some of the rooms at the Hotel Du Vin overlook the stunning St Andrews Bay and the glorious West Sands beach. Bedrooms are luxurious and the bathrooms have fab rain effect showers with top quality toiletries. If you are a golf fan, you will be glad to know that the Old Course is just a few meters away. Outside there is a large sun terrace where you can relax with a drink.
As you might expect this French style restaurant offers a dreamy wine list and delicious classic gallic cuisine. The hotel offers some good value dinner, bed and breakfast packages for around £200 a night. If you desire a room with a sea view then it will set you back approximately £50 more.

See St Andrews Castle
Like the town’s old cathedral, St. Andrews Castle is now mostly ruins but nevertheless remains one of the top must-see tourist attractions. Starting life as a former bishop’s palace at the time the cathedral was built in the late 100s, this once impressive structure saw numerous sieges and also spent time as a prison before falling into disrepair. What’s left, though, provides a clear picture of just how imposing and formidable a structure the castle would once have been.
In addition to its battlements, other notable features include the remains of the old medieval tunnels dug during the year-long siege started after the murder of Cardinal Beaton in 1546, parts of which can be explored. The dungeon where the Cardinal was imprisoned can also be seen.
