Lake Como is located in northern Italy, a quick train ride from Milan. When shopping for flights, Milan MXP is the closest major airport. Venice is also pretty close.

A picturesque lake at the base of the Italian Alps, this gorgeous region feels straight out of a fairytale. With towering mountain peaks, sparkling blue water, and beautiful Italian architecture, Lake Como is the ideal destination for relaxation or romance.

Celebrities such as Madonna, George Clooney, and Versace have even chosen to live on the shores of Lake Como!

Lake Como is in the Lombardy region of Italy. If you recall, the Lombardy region was hit particularly hard at the beginning of the pandemic in 2020. When I visited, I couldnt stop thinking about this. The region is somewhat isolated and transportation options out of Lake Como are limited, which Im sure contributed to the situation worsening.

Should You Rent A Car At Lake Como

As you may or may not know, driving in Italy is a unique experience. If youare notably not comfortable driving on windy roads with blind cornersand no dividing line, you MIGHT find it a bit stressful driving here.

That said, driving is a great way to get around and be able to go at your ownpage. Lake Como area does have a bus system but Ive never tried it so I cant sayif its really doable for travel.

My recommendation would be to rent a car if youre able, itll give youthe flexibility you want when traveling the area.

We always rent our cars through RentalCars.com.In the case of Italy, I would highly recommend adding some insurance: whilerental car companies are more forgiving of tiny scratches, Italians are knownto be less gentle with their cars, and you dont want any surprise bills once you get home.

A big bonus: You can bring your car on the ferry at Lake Como! Read on for more aboutthe ferry on my detailed Lake Como itinerary.

Nesso Where To Stay In Lake Como Off

Lake Como – Italy – Top 10 exciting things to do! English Version.

Nesso is a cute little town a few miles south of Lezzeno. Small enough to stay off the radar of most tourists, Nesso is quiet and peaceful, so is perfect for a relaxing break away from any hustle and bustle.

Tucked into the foot of a forested mountain and right up against the edge of the lake, Nesso is as picturesque as you could ask for. The idyllic setting exudes a distinct sense of peace and calm that is unique to the town and especially perfect for romantic getaways.

Nesso maintains its historic atmosphere particularly well. Walking through its charming old town feels like stepping back in time. You will be surrounded by cosy cafes and small restaurants, all housed within quaint old buildings along winding cobbled roads.

One of the most historic buildings in Nesso is the Archpriestal Church of Saints Peter and Paul. While the current façade was constructed in the 17th century, the church itself dates back to the 11th century. Various frescoes and murals decorate the interior, added at various points through the centuries.

You wont need to worry about not being able to find the church. Its domed bell tower peaks over the surrounding buildings, so you will be able to spot it from a while away.

Being that Nesso is quite underappreciated by the general tourist population, there are relatively few big hotels here. However, there is a great selection of charming bed and breakfasts and guesthouses throughout the town.
