Guest review: âAmazing. Everything about this place is incredible. Location, air conditioning, beds are so comfy, but itâs the hosts that made it perfecto! Giuliano and his team, Maria, are wonderful and hospitable. Nothing was a problem. They gave us great food tips, not that you need it, the location has so much to eat nearby. All attractions are easy walking distance. Lastly, the place is super quiet and peaceful which is wonderful. Grazie!

Best Neighborhood For Young Travelers: San Lorenzo
If you want to stay somewhere with a student vibe, then San Lorenzo is it, near the Sapienza University and walking distance east of the city center. The neighborhood was bombed heavily in World War II and was never rebuilt quite as well as other areas, but what San Lorenzo lacks in prettiness it makes up for with fun.
There are lots of shopping options both for new Italian fashion and vintage clothes, great cheap pizza, and cool bars. Head to the Via dei Volsci and Via dei Sabelli to see where the young people of Rome enjoy a night out.
Best places to stay in San Lorenzo
Rome is a big city with lots to see and experience, so figuring out which neighborhood will work best for you is partly about deciding whether you want to indulge in regular restaurant meals or nightlife, or be near plenty of the historical sights or try some more local neighborhoods for a when in Rome kind of experience.
If you have a longer stay, you can always consider starting in one of the inner city neighborhoods while you see the most famous sights, then having a few days a little further out to enjoy shopping and dining among locals.
Whatever you choose, Rome is a simply amazing city, and Im sure youll be impressed with it!

Roma Termini / Esquilino
Romes central station Roma Termini is one of the busiest in Europe and you will find many hotels in this area. Like most station districts however, proximity to transport equates to a lack of charm. This is a useful area to stay if you have only one night in Rome and need to access the train station early in the morning or late at night. Youll also find the most budget options here. If youre traveling solo or as a family and want to explore at night this probably isnt the area for you as it has a reputation for being a little seedy.
The sights of the historic center are within walking distance of Rome Termini. You can reach the Trevi fountain in around 15 minutes and the Colosseum in just over 20 minutes. However getting to the Vatican is quickest by Metro or bus. There are stops at the Vittorio Emanuele and Termini stations.
When you get hungry there are a number of decent eateries inside the station itself at Mercato Centrale an upscale food court. For your mandatory pizza fix head to nearby Forno Roscioli Pietro or for pasta, the cacio e pepe Trattoria Da Danilo is as good as it gets.

Trevi Fountain is only five minutes away from this hotel, and several good restaurants are very close. Trastevere: The Best Area To Stay In Rome If You Have A Pulse
Trastevere is hands down my number one recommendation for the best area to stay in Rome. In fact, Ive literally stayed in Trastevere every single time Ive been to Rome. And Im doing it again for an upcoming trip this year.
To me, it feels like one the most authentic areas of Rome with winding cobblestone streets opening up onto vibrant piazzas filled with markets and locals going about their day.
The neighborhood is about a 30 minute walk to all of the main attractions, and less on the extensive metro system, so the location is plenty convenient for exploring the main sights of Rome. However the neighborhood is an attraction in itself with little shops and markets and beautiful churches that you will have seemingly all to yourself. Its just far enough off of the beaten path to avoid the throngs of tourists .
Here you will be among the locals as they go by their daily lives. Which makes it the best place to stay in Rome if you really want to immerse yourself in the true culture and lifestyle of the Eternal City.
Personally, this is my favorite neighborhood in Rome as it offers a little bit of everything.
Pros and Cons of Staying in Trastevere
Pros of Trastevere:
Cons of Trastevere:
- Not Super Central. This obviously goes along with the last bullet above. Its a little out of the way from the main tourist sights like the Vatican and Colosseum, so plan on using the Roman metro and buses to get from home to your days attractions.

Where To Stay In Rome With Kids On A Budget: Other Areas
If you have more than a couple of days in Rome, look beyond the city center towards green, residential areas.
These usually are the best place to stay in Rome with kids as they offer lower prices, easy access to parks and shops and an overall family-friendly atmosphere the busy city center sometimes lacks.
Among my favorites, there are the areas around La Sapienza University and between Porta Pia / Villa Torlonia.
Staying in these areas means you will need to rely on public transport but I believe the pleasure of our surroundings will compensate the inconvenience.
Some budget-friendly, family friendly hotels in Rome to consider when choosing where to stay in Rome with your kids:
Best Western hotel Globus: family-friendly Rome hotel, close to the university, close to shops and tram line

Tridente And Spanish Steps
To the North of the centre of the city is Tridente, named after the apparent triendent shape of the roads leading from Piazza del Popolo. Tridente is a buzzing, vibrant area that draws big crowds and it is not hard to see why. Tridente and the area adjoining it, the Spanish Steps is one of the most charming areas of Rome. In fact this area is famous for being one of the most picturesque neighbourhoods in the whole of the city. The Tridente also draws busy shoppers out to spend their cash on haute couture and that something extra special .
Once you need a break from all of that shopping, you can while away an hour or so sat on the Spanish Steps themselves. Originally built in the 1720s to connect the Church of the Trinita dei Monti with the Bourbon Spanish Embassy below, the butterfly shaped staircase consists of 135 steps built in elegant baroque style. The steps have long had a tradition of being a meeting place and general hang out for Romes artists.
Today, the steps and the plaza below today are still abuzz with Romes creatives and are a fantastic spot to sit and people watch. The area is also crammed full of high-end boutiques selling designer goods and small but ultra-luxurious hotels.
