In the old days, the casinos along Las Vegass legendary Strip were cut-throat rivals. Each stood a long way back from the road, and was a dark, low-ceilinged labyrinth, in which it was all but impossible to find an exit. During the 1980s, however, visitors started to explore the Strip on foot. Mogul Steve Wynn cashed in by placing a flame-spouting volcano outside his new Mirage. As the casinos competed to lure in pedestrians, they filled in those daunting distances from the side walk and between each casino and the next.
With Las Vegas booming in the 1990s, gaming corporations bought up first individual casinos, and then each other. The Strip today is dominated by just two colossal conglomerates, MGM Resorts and Caesars Entertainment. Each owns a string of neighbouring casinos. Once you own the casino next door, theres no reason to make each a virtual prison. The Strip has therefore opened out, so that much of its central portion now consists of pedestrian-friendly open-air terraces and pavilions housing bars and restaurants.
Bemused by the options and wondering where to stay in Las Vegas? From the new PocketRough Guide Las Vegas, weve selected eleven of the best options on The Strip and beyond.
The Venetian Resort And Casino
The Venetian Resort and Casino is an Italian style casino resort offering the finest in dining, living and romantic gondola rides. It is located on the southern end of the Las Vegas Strip.
The Venetian is in the same complex as the Palazzo hotel another luxurious 5-star resort and casino. What makes the Venetian special is the interiors. I fell in LOVE with their frescoes on the ceiling, the romantic hues on the walls, and the canals. It really takes you to Venice.
Opt for a gondola ride, if you are in town for a romantic stay or celebration. Shoppers will also love staying here as you can access some of the high-end retail brands. Dont get me started on the food the Venetian has 20 restaurants on-site with some classy wine and fine diner options to score for a date night.
The Venetian Resort and Casino have 7000 luxurious suites and together with the Palazzo the sheer size of these 2 hotels is like its even bigger than some townships. Free Wi-Fi offered at the Venetian follows you to the Palazzo.
Other then the restaurants, there are pools, fitness centre and spa on-site. Room service and an airport shuttle are also offered.

Flamingo Old School Kitsch Decor And Lashings Of Vintage Style Las Vegas Fun
Old school kitsch is probably the best phrase to describe the much-loved Flamingo Hotel and if you like your Vegas hotels just how they were back in the 1950s, then the pink emblazoned establishment set on the main Strip is a whole lot of fun. It first opened its doors in 1946 and today it still pulls the punters with a pretty special retro quality and a lively atmosphere.
Expect a vibrant black and candy-pink vintage style decor, live shows galore, a lagoon-style outdoor pool, plenty of eateries, rooms with all mod cons and dancing girls on the casino floor a place that has to be seen to be believed!

NoMad Las Vegas is a hotel within a hotel specifically, the Park MGM, the completely re-thought former Monte Carlo. But while Park MGM is fun and accessible, NoMad is its totally grown-up side. It’s all old-world luxury here, with sexy dark corners and a grand, library-inspired restaurant. I Don’t Gamble So I Planned On Attending The Shows And
I don’t gamble so I planned on attending the shows and enjoy the nightlife. This can become very expensive. There were shows that were $45 on some nights, but on other nights they were over $400!! It was hard for me to find somewhere that I could eat on the Strip that didn’t have a long wait time, like 2 hours. There are a lot of fast food options, not a lot of healthy choices. I’m from Chicago and everything I tried was not satisfying taste wise. There was a shortage of seasoning and the meats were tough. Getting around is fairly easy in Vegas. If you can’t walk it there are plenty of Lyft and Uber drivers available to take you were you need to go, and they’re pretty reasonable. Next time, and yes I’m going back I will hit a few place on the Best of Vegas list like Joel Robuchon, the Grand Lux Café, and Chin Chin. All in all Vegas is a great getaway right here is the states.
