Why Stay In Mestre

The district of Mestre may be within the official city limits of Venice, but it is actually a part of the Italian mainland. Mestre is a great place to stay for those who want to be as close to the Venetian islands as possible without actually staying there overnight. If you are traveling through Europe with a car, Mestre is preferable for overnight stays thanks to affordable and plentiful parking spots, which are a rare commodity elsewhere in Venice. Getting to the iconic landmarks and destinations in Venice is a breeze from Mestre thanks to the availability of buses, trains and even trams that run straight across the Ponte della Libertà to the Piazzale Roma in Venice.

Mestre is also a desirable spot for travelers who are on a budget. During peak times of year in Venice, such as during the annual film festival, the Voga Longa rowing competition or the Carnival of Venice, hotel stays can be incredibly expensive. In Mestre, accommodation is far more affordable. Mestre is also home to the Piazza Ferretto, the districts central plaza where you can shop for Italian designer clothing or dine on local cuisine.

Best Hotels In Venice

Where to Stay in Venice, Italy (Best Places 2020) in 2020

In this labyrinthine warren of a city, it pays to be clear about what you want when booking a room: tourist-addled Venices classic hotels cluster around St. Marks square, along the Grand Canal to the west, and on the riva degli Schiavoni to the east. Elsewhere in the city youll find everything from backpacker hostels and intimate B& Bs, to design-forward four-stars and owner-rentals galore. A canal view will cost extra, but could mean anything from a spectacular Grand Canal vista to an awkward squint down into mosquito-infested backwater. An inwards-facing room can be far quieter than one that looks out onto a busy thoroughfareas long as inwards means over a courtyard or garden, and not onto a dead wall, that is. Wondering where to start? Our editors’ picks for Venice’s best hotels are here to help guide you.

I really like this location. Basically it is a building full of beautifully furnished apartments in Venice. Every unit has a dishwasher, oven, and other basic kitchen appliances.

Many units have balconies, living rooms, and even multiple bedrooms. This is likely where youd find me staying if I was traveling with my wife and kids. It is perfect for families or groups that appreciate some independence.

Ca Maria Adele is an interesting choice for any visitor to Venice due to its location. It is on the very tip of the Dorsoduro neighborhood which is a very local neighborhood with great dining options. You are also practically connected with Punta della Dogana which is an iconic and historic structure in Venice.

Cannaregio Best Area For Budget Travelers

Best Boutique Hotels in Venice, Italy

Dont want to stay in the most touristic area of Venice? Do you want to live like locals and enjoy a more authentic atmosphere, while also saving some money on accommodation? Then I only have one answer: Cannaregio!

Cannaregio is along the banks of the Grand Canal as well and its a charming, traditional part of the city, where 1/3 of the total number of residents live. So I wasnt kidding when I said that you can actually enjoy Venice like a local here! Ah, and by the way, if you choose to stay here, you will only be 15 minutes away by foot to all the attractions in San Marco!

Cannaregio also hosts Venices Jewish ghetto and its a place thats definitely worth visiting, regardless if you choose to also book your hotel here or not. During the night, this sestiere comes alive and youll be able to enjoy your evening in one of the numerous bars, pubs or restaurants scattered all around the neighborhood!

Stay In Venice Or Outside

Wondering is it better to stay in Venice or outside? Unless your budget is really tight, Id not recommend staying outside Venice in any case.

The atmosphere of the city is truly magical and you wont be able to fully experience it if you stay outside. Plus, youll waste precious time to get to Venezia. In the best scenario, its minimum 40-50min to get to Piazza San Marco.

Also, you wont be able to get to your hotel for a rest during the day. This means spending more than 12 hours on foot, especially if you want to see the city at night. And Venice at night its not something to be missed, its a truly magical place.

In addition, you wont be able to hit the tourist attractions early in the morning. The later you get to the historic part of the city, the more time youll waste waiting in lines.

Yet, if your budget doesnt allow it, the best place to stay near Venice is Mestre. Mestre is the mainland part of Venezia. The most convenient areas to stay in Mestre is around the Mestre train station and Piazzale Cialdini. From Piazzale Cialdini you can take bus 4L or tram T1 to get to Venice.

Hotel Arison When Budgets are Tight

I wont lie, the main reason youd consider staying at Hotel Arison is because its great value for money. Its not that theres anything wrong with the hotel as such, its just that it doesnt have the same presence as those closer to the Grand Canal. Stay here and youll still receive excellent service though, alongside beds that will have you asleep in seconds.
