What To Consider When Looking For A Hotel For Your Oahu Vacation
If youre planning to travel to Oahu on vacation, the first things you will likely look for are hotel prices.
Hawaii itself is such a popular destination that hotels and vacation homes are everywhere. This means you will have to figure out what you want in a hotel before you book.
You may want to consider the size of the room itself and features such as kitchens or refrigerators. And you will absolutely want to consider the location and convenience of the sights you wish to see.
But, above all, you will want to focus on the price of these accommodations, especially if you are traveling on a fixed budget.
In this article, we will discuss several hotel options for every price range so you can plan the Hawaii vacation of your dreams, without breaking your budget.

Best Cheap Hotels In Waikiki Under $1: : Honolulu Oahu Hawaii
ALOHA!
Of course, cheap in Waikiki or Honolulu is a relative term since we are talking about Hawaii here. Much like cheap flights to Hawaii are relative.
When we think of Oahu hotels, you basically can think of cheap hotel rates in Waikiki as anything under $100 a night.
But it becomes difficult to find REALLY GOOD hotels with REALLY GOOD reviews at that price.
So for this list, well try to keep it to hotels that are around or under $150.
Prices can fluctuate so it might go a bit above when you look for your dates.
This list is basically split into 3 sections based on the area of Waikiki Beach its located.
Waikiki is not really a big area, so you will be a 10-15 minute walk from the beach by staying at any of the listed hotels below.
The difference will be which part of the beach you can get to in that amount of time.
Waikiki Beach itself is around 2 miles long, so even a 30 minute walk will likely get you to many places.
As far as location goes, you really cant go wrong with any of these.
But, NONE of these will be beachfront hotels.
Youll have to pay a little more for that.
Tips For Booking Hostels In Hawaii

With a good choice of budget accommodation in Hawaii I managed to fulfill my goal and stay for three month in the islands and during that time I managed to sleep at a significant number of the hostels in Hawaii . I also picked up the following tips for booking hostels in Hawaii.
Do your research: sure, doing research for every trip is important but with the hostels in Hawaii its even more important. Although each island is catered for in terms of hostel accommodation, there are only a handful of choices per island. If you turn up and your chosen place is not to your liking, there wont be as many alternatives in the same price bracket. The choices on some islands are better than others , so bear this in mind.
Booking in advance versus turn up and see: your personal circumstances will largely dictate your approach on this front if youre on holiday for two weeks and want the security of knowing you have a room or need to accommodate a family, youll no doubt want to book in advance. If youre backpacking in Hawaii, turning up is usually fine as there are a good number of dorm beds . If youre after a private room, then you should almost certainly book before you arrive private rooms at hostel prices go quick, quick, quick. Ive written previously about the pros and cons of booking rooms in advance.

Near The Hilton Hawaiian Village Lagoon
The Hilton Hawaiian Village is a popular family-friendly Waikiki beach resort that wont fall into the category of a cheap Waikiki hotel, but it makes for an easy landmark.
Its also possible to enjoy some family-friendly activities here even if youre not staying at the resort, so this could also be a reason so stay in this area of Waikiki.
Theres a lagoon nearby thats open to non-guests, and you can also rent some water equipment too.
As for the beach, this is where the widest stretch of beach from building to sand can be found. So you can generally expect to be able to find some sand space to call your own.

Bed & Breakfast Inns $$$$$
While hostels may be great for young travelers, they are horrible for older couples who enjoy privacy and serenity. For the older couples, a great choice for your next visit to Hawaii is a bed and breakfast inn.
B& Bs are private homes which have been turned into commercial housing facilities for travelers. Unlike hotels or hostels, B& Bs are usually located in remote areas, usually near the beach. Because of this, they are great for older couples who want to wake up to the sounds of the ocean and enjoy the Hawaii scenery without all the traffic, noise, and rowdy people of Waikiki.
B& Bs are more expensive than hostels, but cheaper than hotels.

Are There Any Cheap North Shore Hotels
You might notice a lack of hotel deals on the North shore, and youre right!
The Courtyard Oahu North Shore was the most reasonable I have found, and even that is usually over $180+ per night for a room that fits all four of us. Check out the latest prices and more details.
My suggestion if you are looking to stay up north would be to explore Airbnb, VRBO or Homeaway.
It seems that all three sites have homes, condos or apartments for rent, and they are usually cheaper than finding a hotel room.
If you are looking for an awesome North Shore luau, check out Toa Luau!
My boys and I are constantly on the go when we are in Hawaii. I see our hotel as a place to crash and sleep at the end of every fabulous day, but I still want it to be clean and safe!
Amenities like an outdoor pool, continental breakfast, or a spa are nice, but as long as I dont have to sleep with toddler knees in my back, I consider it a successful vacation!
Hopefully, you find this list of 5 Cheap Hotels on Oahu helpful as you plan your Dream Hawaiian Vacation!

When I was backpacking through Hawaii, I avoided this place like the plague because, at the time it had less than 5/10 on Hostelworld. The renovations look very nice. So, Im confidently putting Polynesian Hostel on the list. And I plan to check it out next time Im in Hawaii . If you do stay there, let me know below how it goes.
