I understood this after spending a weekend at the Memmo Alfama, a magical gem at the end of a cobblestoned alley in Lisbon, overlooking the Tagus River as it widens to the ocean. My friend Nicolette had recommended it one month prior, as I planned an Easter holiday in Portugal, which fell in the middle of my work trip to London. At more than 200 per night, the price felt steepbut it was only a few nights over a holiday, with the stamp of a personal recommendation. So, you can book a standard room for 15,000 World of Hyatt points per night. Or, you can use Hyatt Category 14 reward night certificates for your stay.
Or, if you prefer to redeem IHG Rewards points, you could stay at the InterContinental Saigon. I found some dates bookable for 20,000 points per night. But, award costs will vary based on your dates and when you book since IHG uses dynamic award pricing.
Finally, if you want to redeem Marriott Bonvoy points to stay in Ho Chi Minh City, some excellent Category 3 and 4 hotels are available. For example, you can book the Category 3 Le Méridien Saigon and Renaissance Riverside Hotel Saigon for 15,000 to 20,000 points per night. And you can book the Category 4 Sheraton Saigon Hotel & Towers for between 20,000 and 30,000 per night.
