Going with a big group to Disney World? Then staying off-site in a house may be more comfortable than a Disney World hotel room. On a recent extended family trip we debated staying at Pop Century or splitting a house.
The house was less expensive per person plus gave the kids extra room to play both inside and out. One potential downside to sharing a house with family is you are together all day every day of the trip. For some extended families this works great. We love Disney, but well admit that sometimes its nice to have a brief break from its intensity.
Disney Worlds newest hotel is also its best for travelers who want to stay near the magic without living with Mickey and friends 24/7.
To put it another way, this may be the best hotel for adults who need to balance a Disney trip with the real world.
Disneys Riviera Resort is on the Disney Skyliner, making it easy to access Hollywood Studios and Epcot. But youll almost feel like youre vacationing on the Mediterranean thanks to the decor, music and culinary program.
At this Deluxe resort, youll find all the usual Disney amenities, including a character breakfast, but its just a touch more refined and grown-up without being stuffy. With Tangled- and Peter Pan-inspired mosaics to marble bathrooms that might be the nicest in Disney, were serious Riviera fans.
Dont worry if you want to bring the kids. Theres plenty for them to enjoy, too, including poolside gelato, a tower slide and our favorite toddler splash area at Disney World.

This is a huge resort that provides some stunning views due to the huge lake in the middle, with the hotel being broken up into different islands which all have their own small swimming pools, with one big one for everyone to share in the middle. This resort has recently had some major upgrades with greater dining being added due to the fact that Disney’s Skyliner has a stop here, which is another benefit to going.

Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort
Disneys Coronado Springs Resort houses a convention center, so it truly excels in terms of amenities and convenience. A more professional pick, this option may not be as fun for kids. But were betting youll be too busy enjoying your pedicure in the spa to even notice.
Pros: moderate hotel with hot tub and water slides, table service restaurant, great food variety on-site, updated amenities, does not share a bus with other resorts
Cons: large resort which means you may have to walk far to your room, very subtle theming which may not appeal to families, can be busy with business groups since it doubles as a convention center
The resort, starting at $252 a night, is very centrally located and offers many more amenities than other similarly-priced stays including a health club, beauty salon, several pools, and more.

Four Seasons Resort Orlando
How would you feel about spending $70,000 a night to stay here? Yes, thats right $70,000 is the price tag to spend a night at the Four Seasons Resort, Orlando. Known as the most expensive hotel option, by far, this Disney attraction provides a temporary home for some of the wealthiest Disney fans who want the most luxurious vacation experience. This massive nightly investment doesnt just get you a room though not to worry when you spend this much you are actually renting the entire 16th floor of the hotel. Disneys Yacht Club Resort
2020 Standard Room Rates: $487 – $846
Ive youve been paying attention, you probably knew wed be heading to the Boardwalk area next. Our pick for the top resort in the area seems to change more quickly than Floridas weather, but at this moment were giving the spot back to Yacht Club.
Before we get to our issues with Yacht Club, lets talk about why it deserves this spot. The Boardwalk area is within walking distance of two parksEpcot and Hollywood Studios. Hollywood Studios has the newest and most popular rides in Walt Disney World Resort. That walking path is valuable. If you dont like to walk, you can also take the Friendship boats to both those parks.
Additionally, the Boardwalk is packed with restaurants and bars. Some of these are technically a part of the BoardWalk Inn, but we cant ignore the fact that theyre a beautiful short walk from Yacht Club.
The Boardwalk doesnt compare to Disney Springs as a nightlife district, but for most Disney vacationers, its a solid option.
Yacht Club and Beach Club share the best pool on propertyStormalong Bay, with a sand-bottom, water slide, and lazy river.
Yacht and Beach also have lower prices than BoardWalk, for reasons we dont fully understand. Our best explanation is that BoardWalk is closer to Hollywood Studios, but that seems a weak hook for an extra $46 per night in value season.
Worst Disney Value Resorts
Disneys All-Star Sports Resort
Disneys All-Star Sports Resorts niche theming and poor location make it the worst Disney World resort. While it is the one of most affordable resorts, it really doesnt feel like Disney, so the question becomes, is it even worth it?
Upsides
If Im being honest, the only real upside to Disneys All-Star Sports Resort is the fact that its affordable. A standard room that sleeps four people costs just $99 per night. Compared to the other Disney World Resorts, thats definitely the cheapest .
Downsides
The sports theme is very limited, so, unless everyone in your group is into sports, it wont be enjoyable for everyone. As a matter of fact, its so sports-focused that it actually doesnt seem to have that much of a connection to Disney. That said, if you are a sports fan, all of the sports-themed décor throughout the resort will definitely get you into the competitive spirit.
Another downside to Disneys All-Star Sports Resort is the fact that its very far from the parks. While you can get to Animal Kingdom pretty easily using the Disney bus system, the other three parks require a rather complicated route.

Other Walt Disney World Area Hotels
Some of these hotels are actually on property and some are just off property. Recently Disney has included some to take part in the special offerings that property hotels have to offer including Extra Magic Hours and 60 days advance FastPass+ booking. These hotels can be cheaper than Disney-owned hotels and some can be far more expensive. Over-all, we actually love many of these hotels and frequent them often.
Swan and Dolphin Hotels Review We actually really like these two property hotels that are managed by the SPG/Marriott group. They are located in the same area as BoardWalk, Beach Club and Yacht Club but are usually much less expensive. While the resorts themselves are centered around conventions, they are still a great option for those who like to be close to the parks including Epcot and Hollywood Studios.
The rooms are a bit dated and we dont like the resort fees they charge each night but for the price we still think they are worth it. Both hotels offer lots of places to eat too and the pools are pretty decent. The busing system is okay and is shared between the two hotels and sometimes BoardWalk Inn. Because they are managed by the SPG/Marriott group, if you have membership points with them you can use them to book rooms here which is always a plus.
Disneys Grand Floridian Resort & Spa
The Grand Floridian is probably the most traditional high-end hotel at Disney World.
You wont find a ton of character themes, but you will find some of the most upscale amenities, including a spa and the fanciest restaurant at Disney. Its one of Disney Worlds most expensive resorts, thanks to its proximity to Magic Kingdom and amenities, with rates often starting at $500 per night or more, even for standard rooms, with rates going above $700 for pretty standard rooms at peak times.
In addition to the monorail stop, there are water taxis that take you across Bay Lake to the park entrance. And, newly added is a walking path to the Magic Kingdom, so you dont need to rely on any transportation at all. In short, getting to and from Magic Kingdom isnt a problem from the Grand Floridian.
Dining is another highlight here. While it hasnt reopened yet, Victoria & Alberts is the finest dining you can find at Disney World. A true five-star experience with a dress code and no kids under 10, guests can choose between the dining room, a private chefs table or Queen Victorias Room for a truly special occasion. With everything from caviar to fine wines, be prepared for a big bill.
1900 Park Fare is also excellent and a bit easier on the budget. The redesigned Enchanted Rose bar on the second level of the Grand Floridians lobby, inspired by Beauty and the Beast, is a upscale place to sip your evening cocktail.

Caribbean Beach Resort Review Its been a while since weve stayed here and weve been meaning to go back . This moderate resort is massive and like Pop Century, its very spread out. This makes the busing system not great. This is the oldest of the moderate resorts so it tends to have bigger rooms. The price difference between this resort and a Value Resort isnt much, thus people tend to upgrade to this resort. Its certainly not our favorite Moderate Resort, the food court is okay and the theming is fun? Were not quite sure about it but the kids dont mind because of the pirate-themed rooms. This resort has recently gone under a major refurb so you may be lucky enough to sleep in a newly renovated room . We probably wont until the new Disney Skyliner is finished which will service this hotel. This will improve the busing system here we think and make this hotel a bit more valuable.
Cabins at Fort Wilderness Resort Review Love the great outdoors? Fishing, boating and living among the trees your thing? Then this is the place for you! The cabins are pretty nice and can hold a larger family . They actually do a good job at making you feel like youve rented a cabin . Its homey and outdoorsy. Its one of the most unique feelings at Walt Disney World considering youre staying at the largest resort in the world. Plus Magic Kingdom is right across the lake! Stays here are great but be aware that the busing system isnt.

Disneys Art Of Animation Resort
Disneys Art of Animation is the king of Value resorts at Disney World. Its the newest of the category and has a whole lot going for it. The experience isnt exactly the same as at our favorite Moderate and Deluxe resorts, but Art of Animation can easy on your pocketbook while still offering a good amount of magic.
The Art of Animation resort is filled with bright colors, memorable Disney cartoon characters and its now very accessible to both Epcot and Hollywood Studios thanks to the new Disney Skyliner gondola system.
The Art of Animation resort really shines with its family suites, which offer a lot more room and have three beds in each suite . The family suites have The Lion King,Cars and Finding Nemo themes, while standard rooms are Little Mermaid-themed.
The Big Blue Pool at Art of Animation is actually the largest hotel pool at any Disney World resort. Youll find your favorite Nemo characters hanging around and you can even enjoy underwater music as you swim.
The food here wont blow you away, but Landscape of Flavors is a reliable cafeteria-style venue.
Outside of Art of Animation, our best advice, if you are booking a value resort, is to pick one that has been recently renovated. It still may not be your most exciting hotel stay ever, but a new room is better than an old room. For example, TPGs Katie Genter recently stayed in All-Star Movies, which is pretty fresh off a new room look.
Wilderness Lodge Yosemite Suite
Disneys Wilderness Lodge brings lush evergreen trees, rocky outcroppings, waterfalls and overall natural beauty of the Pacific Northwest to sunny Central Florida in a way that only Disney can do. Indoors and out, the resort has a rustic feel, but the Yosemite Suite is anything but rustic.
The Yosemite Suite still brings the outdoors in with nature-inspired art, wood furnishings and floorings and muted, earth-hued textiles throughout. For the tried-and-true Disney fan, there are still a few understated Disney details, like sketches from the 1942 classic Bambi, hanging above the oversized soaking tub. All of this is thanks to a recent renovation that dropped the over-the-top cowboy motif for a more subtle lodge feel.
In the large, open living space, theres a dining table that seats six, a small kitchenette and a cushy sectional that converts to a queen-size sleeper. The primary bedroom has a king bed and en suite bathroom with a walk-in shower and oversized soaking tub. There is also a connecting bedroom that adds two queen beds to the mix if you are traveling with a large group.
