  • Watkins Glen State Park
  • Painted Bar Stables

If its your first time visiting the Finger Lakes, then the small upstate New York town of Watkins Glen is liekly the best town to stay in, due to its perfect proximity to major attractions. Watkins Glen also has many fantastic restaurants, craft breweries, distilleries, and wineries. Should you try a glass of wine in this region, be sure to try a Riesling the area is renowned for it!

Nearby Watkins Glen State Park has 19 waterfalls, gorges, hiking, and more natural wonders. Its most iconic attraction is the Rainbow Bridge , which is a relatively flat walk about a mile from the entrance. Additionally, more adventurous hikers can walk the North and South Rim of the glen. We recommend the South Rim trail, as you can look down at the creek as you hike. Keep in mind, there is no alcohol or pets allowed on the Gorge Trail.

Best For Nightlife: Chelsea

This area used to be a prominent gay district but today it is more known for its vibrant clubbing scene, upscale boutiques, art galleries, and expensive restaurants. There is a gay community and many gay bars as well. It is adjacent to The Meatpacking District, a former enclave of meat companies. The popular High Line, an elevated linear park built on abandoned railroad tracks, is nearby too. A great mid-range hotel in Chelsea is the Stewart Hotel, which offers comfortable rooms at great rates.

My friend and I actually scored our hotel for $99/night when we went in February. It was offseason, of course, and I think we were going on a Sunday into a Monday. We were smack dab in Hells Kitchen and within walking distance of everything we wanted to do. Plus breakfast was even included! Thats a win-win in my book.

Amazing Citythat You Have To Visit Once In Your Life

Amazing city, that you have to visit once in your life. Plan longer stay, because its so many things to see and do here. I spent two days in Met Museum only. I recomand you to go to the Park Line and Chelsea Market, you should visit DUMBO and If you have time Hoboken. The best part of NYC is Soho with cast iron buildings. I like everything about this city except you should keep in mind its expencive and easely you can spend 100$ a day.You can eat good food for less money in chain restaurant named Essen. The hotels are pricey also, especialy if you go there in spring time wich is best part of the year to visit.

Dream Hotel Midtown — Video Review — Great Places To Stay In New York

Midtown has a lot of NYCs biggest tourist attractions like Rockefeller Center, Times Square, The Museum of Metropolitan Art, Madison Square Garden, Broadway, and Koreatown. Theres a lot going on in this area!

Personally, I dont love staying in this part of town as its touristy, really busy, and there are far cooler neighborhoods in the city. But, if you must stay here, the places below are where you should stay.

Best places to stay in Midtown

  • BUDGET: Jazz Hostel This hostel on Columbus Circle is one of my favorites in New York . It has a friendly environment, a kitchen for cooking your own meals, comfy dorms, free Wi-Fi, and a common area on every floor .

The Jane Bellhops And Stuffed Monkeys On The Edge Of The Hip Meatpacking District

Staying at highly regarded and much-loved The Jane is an experience in itself. Located on the edge of the Meatpacking Districts nightlife hub the vintage-style budget boutique hotel has a quirky, time-warp feel which features rooms endearingly inspired by old-fashioned train cabins. One of the most popular Greenwich village hotels, in 1912 the hotel sheltered survivors of the Titanic, in the 1920s it became a haven for sailors, and then it was lovingly restored on its centennial in 2008. Each compact cabin/room comes with modern amenities like free Wi-Fi and iPod docks and all rooms have either Hudson River views or terraces.

One of the stand-out West Village hotels, larger upgraded rooms are also available and theres a popular onsite restaurant which is locals favorite for brunch, and an opulent Victorian-style lobby bar that also doubles as a hipster hotspot. The decor is exceptionally unique with authentic old-school bellhops, maids in black and white uniforms, carved moose heads, and stuffed monkeys adorned with fez hats! The result is easily one of the most intriguing and coolest hotels in New York.

Ellis Island An Awesome Place To Visit In New York For Half A Day

  • Historic port that was the first point of entry for many immigrants to New York
  • Previously one of the USAs busiest immigration areas
  • Partly made from reclaimed land
  • Interesting and insightful museum

Why its awesome: Ellis Island was the busiest immigration entry point in the USA for a number of years, acting as the first place that new arrivals saw upon entering the nation. Some 12 million people entered the USA through this port, with up to 5,000 people arriving per day at the busiest periods. In the 1920s, with the reduction in the number of immigrants arriving in the USA, the island was largely used as a detention and deportation centre.

It was also used as a prison to detain wartime prisoners. Although the southern side of the island isnt open to the public it is possible to visit the old hospital as part of a tour. Today part of the Statue of Liberty National Monument, Ellis Island is most popular today for its interesting immigration museum. Its one of the top places to go in New York for a sense of history.

What to do there: Catch the ferry over to Ellis Island and spend a few hours seeing the various displays and exhibits in the Ellis Island National Museum of Immigration. Within the main building of the previous immigration centre, you can learn more about the millions of people who moved to the USA and entered through Ellis Island. Hear inspirational and moving personal tales on the audio tour and uncover more of the islands history.

Lower East Side & Soho

The Lower East Side and SoHo are two super cool neighborhoods, located very close to each other. Theyre not that big either, which is why I decided to combine them into a single recommendation. Theyre pretty similar as well and theyre great choices especially for people who have been to New York City before!

NOTE: SoHo in New York is different from the Soho in London, so please dont mix them up!

Please keep in mind that both of these areas are residential, so they lack popular landmarks, but theyre still pretty close to the main attractions in the city center .

Another nice activity to do here is just to take a walk on the streets and try out new restaurants, cafes and shops for all pockets and preferences . And if youre a fashion lover, SoHo is for you! Ah, and if youre staying in the Lower East Side, youll be walking distance to Little Italy and Chinatown as well bonus points!
