Living In Thailand Pros And Cons

Working remotely in Thailand is always a good idea but there can be pros and cons. As weve covered, the pros are the affordable prices, the beaches, and the nomad communities.

However, there are a few downsides, the main one being the visas. You only get a 30-day visa on entry although you can apply for a 2 or 6 month one at the Thai Embassy.

The culture of saving face can be also confusing around Thailand and may baffle you when you ask for directions.

Basically, if people dont know the answer to your question, they may make up incorrect directions to appear friendly and helpful. While the intention is pure, you may spend a lot of time lost in Bangkok!

Traffic in the cities and the odd tourist scam can also be an annoyance but youll soon get the hang of staying savvy.

How To Get Around Bangkok

Public Transportation

The most popular and convenient way to get around Bangkok is the Skytrain and the underground metro . The Skytrain has 2 lines, Silom Line , and Sukhumvit Line which connect to each other at Siam and Asok stations. The MRT also has two lines, blue and purple. You can connect the metro and Skytrain at Sukhumvit and Asok stations.

Most tourists will not use the MRT underground, as the skytrain is much more convenient. Also, there are two different ticketing systems, so a BTS pass is not valid for travel on the MRT. There are handy passes available for both, so figure out which one youll use the most. A one-day, unlimited use pass on either the BTS or MRT is 120 Baht . You can also purchase single journey tickets if you dont plan to use public transportation that much. Single tickets start at 15 Baht and go up incrementally, depending on how many stations your ride is.

Chao Phraya Express boats are another part of the Bangkok public transportation system. There are three routes: green, yellow and orange. Tickets range in price from 13 Baht to 30 Baht and can be purchased at the Piers. The BTS connects to the Chao Phraya Express via Sathorn station.

Tuk Tuk

As a piece of advice, wed suggest not using tuk tuks during rush hour as they are windowless, and sitting in traffic in the heat is not particularly comfortable.

Taxi

Bangkok Hotels Near Siam

The Siam Square is the busiest BTS station, since it is the point of connection between the Silom line and Sukhumvit line.

This will take you to Chatuchak weekend market, Saphan Taksin station, the hub of express boat on Chao Phraya river to the old city for the Grand Palace, Wat Arun and Khao San road.

Siam Square is one of the best areas to stay in Bangkok for shopping, since it is surrounded by famous shopping centres i.e. Siam Paragon, Siam Discovery, Central World, MBK, Tokyu and other fashionable clothes and accessories along Siam Squares small alleys.

It is also only one stop away from the National Stadium BTS station, where you can walk to Jim Thompsons house.

Siam Kempinski Hotel

Sra Bua by Kiin Kiin, the hotels modern Thai restaurant, has been awarded a prestigious One Star rating by Michelin. Even though I am Thai, I still think its worth to pay for the experience of a Thai fine dining here. What impresses me most is their creative presentation with modern interpretation of the food, yet retaining the original Thai taste.
