Youre travelling on the wine road so why not make your hotel part of the journey and stay in one of the wine producing chateaux that also offer accommodations? Here are some options:
Hotel Rollan de By
A beautiful 3 stars hotel located in one of the most gorgeous areas in the Medoc, between the vineyards and the Gironde Estuary. The hotel is quite close to the little ports Ive mentioned above meaning you have a lot of options for dinner. Rollan de By is an active winery so you can have a wine tour and tastings while staying at the chateau, how great is that?
Château du Tertre
This is a beautiful guesthouse, located in a 19th century mansion. The rooms are elegantly decorated and have a view on the vineyards of the estate. Like most of Bordeauxs châteaux hotels, theres no onsite restaurant. But you can reserve dinner, which is a home cooked meal prepared by the caretakers that we highly recommend. Otherwise, Saint-Émilion is about a 30 minute drive and Bordeaux is a 40 minute drive.
Youll tour the château and have an opportunity to taste their wines during your stay, but there are other activities you can do on site like taking an off-road tour around the estate in a 1957 Willys Jeep.

Hotel De Sze Bordeaux
Once upon a time the British ruled Bordeaux. When France regained Bordeaux in the 1450s, King Charles VII ordered a mighty fortress called Château Trompette to be built to protect Bordeaux from opportunistic invaders. Château Trompette sat stretching on a space from the Garonne to where the Monument aux Girondins stands today, with its western boundary the Place de la Bourse.
The fortress eventually lost its purpose and King Louis XVIII ordered its destruction in 1816. It was during this time that Quinconces and Allées de Tourny were built, along with the three historic buildings that make up Hotel de Sèze Bordeaux. History buffs might even be intrigued to know that the fourth floor of the hotel has some trap doors where Jews hid during WWII.
Hotel de Sèze Bordeaux has been operating as a hotel since 1927 and has been a landmark of Bordeaux for more than 90 years now. The rooms of the 4-star boutique hotel have been updated over the years and they offer a modern and refined elegance.
Theres also the Spa de Sèze with private steam rooms, sauna, jacuzzi, sensory shower experience and a variety of body treatments available.
Le Comptoir de Sèze offers a Sunday brunch, a jazz dinner concert on the first and third Thursday each month and a daily afternoon tea service.
And if you enjoy golf, Hotel de Sèze has a six-hole golf course exclusively for guests just a 10-minute drive away.

Intercontinental Bordeaux Le Grand Hotel
Place de la Comédie is one of Bordeauxs most beautiful squares and the city radiates out from it. Intercontinental Bordeaux Le Grand Hotel , or also iconically known as the Grand Hotel Bordeaux, holds a prominent spot on the square and is one of the best hotels in Bordeaux.
In the summer, Intercontinental Bordeaux Le Grand Hotels Urban Beach is one of just a few rooftop spots you can eat and drink at in the city. Theres also a spa and an indoor pool, making the hotel one of very few Bordeaux hotels with a pool. An onsite wine concierge who can help arrange excursions to some of the best wine châteaux in the region is another unique amenity offered.
The rooms are spacious, which can be tough to find right in the city center. And each room in the hotel is uniquely decorated.
5 Reasons to Love Intercontinental Bordeaux
Theres also two onsite restaurants, the Michelin starred Le Pressoir dArgent and the ground level Le Bordeaux Gordon Ramsay, both of which we recommend.
Intercontinental Bordeaux Le Grand Hotel includes complimentary wifi. The hotel has parking available for a daily fee. Pets welcome.
The City Has So Many Things To See
The city has so many things to see. Parks, walks and plentiful of architectural sights. The great public transport that connects every part of the city and region for a very reasonable fares. The food is good and it’s hard to choose between so many restaurants and coffee places, pastry shops and chocolatiers. I took 2 day trips, 1st to the Arcachon Bay and another to St Emillion. Well worth trips. Dune of Pilat and La Salie bieach are beautiful and well worth the walk up to them. St Emillion is a charming little town, but be mindful that in France they take lunch break and many places are closed between 12 and 2 pm. Bordeaux Botanic Garden is not huge but is well organised and located next to the great river walk. Use public transport in Bordeaux, and do take a full length trip in BAT3, a sort of a Garonne cruise . I would suggest to travel to a minimum of 6 to 7 full day.

For those looking to get a heady dose of history, culture, and some of the best wine produced in the world, look no further than Bordeaux.

As one of Europes central hubs of activity throughout the centuries and birthplace of famed figures such as Eleanor of Aquitaine, Richard II, and the painter Odilon Redon, here the past and present are constant companions, with some of the most beguiling places to stay in Bordeaux all but a living testament.
With its intoxicating blend of Gothic medieval, Baroque, and modern architecture, Bordeaux is a city made for exploring on foot or by bicycle, with the greater vineyard landscape providing a truly once-in-a-lifetime excursion.

Chteau Loudenne For A Special Experience
Château Loudenne was one of my favorite experiences in the region. Its a 17th-century mansion, known as château rose, the pink house, which you get to explore during the visit. The château is located almost at the end of the wine route and is the only château in Medoc that has a private port, with a beautiful view on the Garonne Estuary. Apart from the impressive property, they have a beautiful garden where you can take a walk after tasting their divine wine. They offer two free tours at 11 am and 2 pm during the touristic period and will welcome you without reservation when its less busy.
If you arrive for the morning visit you can spend the whole day at the château. They offer an amazing picnic basket so if the weather is nice you can have a picnic on the river banks. There are boats that pass by the port several times a week, proposing a guided tour of the Gironde estuary. Book the boat tour at the same day as it will depend on the tide. Chateau Loudenne is open from Tuesday to Saturday, check out their contact details on their website.
