We rented canoes and paddled down the White River in Eureka Springs. Chloe was our captain and guide dog.

Helpful hint from Happy-Go-Doodle: Check the weather radar before you go and watch for pop-up storms. You dont want to get caught in a thunderstorm on the riverfor your own safety and for the safety of your dog.

Back In Time At Blue Spring Heritage Center

Comprised of beautiful gardens, local history, and a large natural spring, Blue Springs Heritage Center has been a popular tourist attraction for over 70 years. Prior to attracting tourists and Eureka Springs residents, the spring was considered a sacred space for local and traveling American Indian tribes. Today, its a popular family destination and a great place to enjoy the Ozark outdoors.

The history of Blue Spring is on full display with every visit. Artifacts and exhibits are interspersed throughout the park, including the remnants of an old mill that was once powered by the moving water. A notable Bluff Shelter is also worth a visit, now on the National Register of Historic Places, with evidence of use spanning back thousands of years. The various gardens are also worth seeing, and just over a mile of trails connects the different garden beds.

Spooky Stay At The Crescent Hotel

Though I havent stayed at the Crescent Hotel I have visited it many times and explored much of the building. We visited the hotel for breakfast in the Crystal Dining Room and explored the museum and observation deck during our Historic Tram Tour.

I think staying the night at the Crescent Hotel would be a very interesting experience.

I dont think Id take my boys to stay there overnight at their current age but maybe someday soon my wife and I will have an adult weekend in Eureka Springs and we can stay here.

The hotel itself is beautiful and many people even get married here.

Its kind of funny because its beautiful and has wonderful restaurants, a swimming pool and many of the things people love about hotels. The only difference is many people consider the hotel haunted.

How To Get To Eureka Springs

Eureka Springs is a 45-minute drive from Branson, Missouri, 50-minute drive from Rogers, Arkansas, just under four hours from Kansas City, Missouri, and just under five hours from St. Louis, Missouri. For an idea of how to get to Eureka Springs from your starting point, take a peek at this map:

Its worth mentioning that once youve arrived in the area, the Eureka Springs Trolley is a great mode of transportation. The trolley offers several stops in the downtown area as well as at other points of interest. However, it does not allow pets.

Hints for a happier trip by Happy-Go-Doodle: Because of its winding roads and mountainside streets, be prepared for your electronic mapping devices to get confused. Try to avoid driving into the Eureka Springs downtown area at night. While the curvy roads and hills are picturesque during the day, at night the roads swirl through town like spaghetti swirls around a fork. Also, if you or your dog are prone to carsickness due to hills and curves, have a plan in place before you go.

Outdoorsy Stay In A Tree

If you are more into the outdoors and dont want to stay in the city Id recommend staying in a tree-house.

There are a few different tree house options.

We passed some on the way towards lake Leatherwood and Thorncrown Chapel.

Dont worry, they arent too far from the downtown area and other Eureka Springs attractions.
