Ellsworth Harbor Park and Marina is a clean and a litter-free park located on the northeast end of Union River Bay. With the wooden shoreline bellies, the mooring field, and the floating dock all in clear sight, it is a perfect place to come for afternoon relaxation as you watch the boats come and leave. The park also has large gazebos, large patches of grass, and picnic shelter and tables amongst other facilities to make your visit as comfortable and as relaxing as it can be.

Ellsworth is a small city of around 7,000 people and is the county seat of Hancock County. It has plenty of historic buildings and tourist attractions and was the fastest growing city in the country from 2000 to 2010.

It looks like it will be a good season here on the coast of Maine! At Elsas, we are lucky to have so many guests who return regularly and we missed so many of you last year when travel was restricted. Maine is opening up a little, we are still abiding by all the safety protocols but, there is a little more optimism in the air this spring! Last year, while we missed the return of many of our friends, we enjoyed meeting many first-time visitors to the area. Most found us because they were looking for a safe and healthy alternative to more populous areas in Maine as well as elsewhere. If traveling from the south, follow I-95 to Bangor. Follow I-395 to 1A until Ellsworth, where state routes 1 and 3 will eventually lead to Bar Harbor.
Visitors who are taking coastal Route 1 will find themselves on Main Street Ellsworth, which is lined with small novelty shops and restaurants and offers visitors the chance to find many unique gifts and souvenirs. From there visitors can take High Street, which Route 3 and Route 1 merge into, to Mount Desert Island.
Green Lake National Fish Hatchery
The Green Lake National Fishing Hatchery is one of the few US facilities with the goal of promoting and improving American fisheries.
River-specific Atlantic salmon strains are raised at the facility, and approximately one million are released into the river each year. Not only can you learn about the hatchery, but you may enjoy recreational fishing while youre here.
To get to Green Lake National Fishing Hatchery, use Route 1A north until you reach the intersection with Route 180. Travel about 4.25 miles to the Hatchery entry sign on the left, then take a turn right onto Route 180. It takes about ten minutes to go from Ellsworth.

It is a 10-mile round trip on the historic Calais Branch Line that will treat you to spectacular views of landscapes, and wildlife, with great sightings of animals such as deer, foxes, beavers, bald eagles, blue herons, and maybe bears. The ride will be remembered as the very first tourist passenger rail to go through the historic Calais Branch Line and also one of the most cherished day trips in Ellsworth. The neighboring Blue Hill Fair is held on Labor Day weekend and is a true, down to earth country fair, and in September, sample all the chowders at the annual Chowderfest.
Fishing in Graham Lake is popular and Branch Lakes crystal clear waters are ideal for swimming and boating. Birdsacre-Stanwood Wildlife Sanctuary and Homestead has a museum dedicated to Cordelia J. I Was At A Tai Chi Training So I Didn’t Get To Spend
I was at a tai chi training so I didn’t get to spend enough time in this charming town. I did eat at the Mex and had a great dinner in their fun establishment. We tried to eat the Irish pub but learned it pays to reserve ahead of time! That place is popular! Loved the Riverside Cafe and the Flexit. There were so many shops that I’d love to have browsed around in. And I didn’t even make it to the water. There has to be a next time!
How To Get To Ellsworth Maine
When you are traveling by car, its very easy to get to Ellsworth. Its located right on US Route 1. You can easily follow Route 1 from Portland, all the way to Ellsworth. While driving towards the city you will pass plenty of picturesque scenery.
Another option is to drive towards Bangor. Its one of the closest major cities to Ellsworth and you should have no difficulty coming from Bangor to Ellsworth. All you have to do is follow route 1A and you will arrive in no time.
Flying into Ellsworth proves no difficulty either. The closest international airport is located in Bangor, which is a nice 40 minutes drive only. After you book a flight to Bangor we also recommend reserving a car rental at Bangor airport and you are set for a nice vacation.

The sanctuary spans over 200 acres of land, and though unassuming, visiting it comes with a unique and meaningful experience that will be enjoyed by both the young and the old. The protected wilderness was started to honor the memories of Cordelia Stanwood an ethnologist who dedicated her life to the welfare of animals, especially birds.
