Hi everyone – I have never been to Germany and will be going in February for my first time to attend a trade show which is being held at Messe in Frankfurt.

Looking at hotels in the area, they are 4-5 times the price as normal and extremely expensive. Someone suggested staying outside of Frankfurt as the trains, etc are really good and I can find less expensive hotels avoiding the city center.

I don’t mind renting a car or taking trains. If renting a car, I’m not sure if parking at Messe is going to be uber expensive, etc.

Would someone please be able to suggest some towns and/or hotels that I can consider that would allow me to get to Messe within 30 minutes or so and might also provide a good base to do a couple days of tourist type things around Frankfurt.

Thank you all so much for the information.

Once the notorious red light district of Frankfurt, the Bahnhofsviertel is the perfect neighborhood to stay in for close proximity to nightlife and fine restaurants on Kaiserstrasse boulevard. There are plenty of hotels in the area as it is near the main train station and has excellent links to the airport for those on a short trip. Almost every neighborhood in Frankfurt has a range of cool bars for enjoying a drink, but to try the local apple wine, head along the narrow streets of Sachsenhausen. More apple wine awaits in Nordend, where you’ll also find leafy parks and the historic Holzhausenschlösschen country house, if you prefer an afternoon walk.

Stroll Around The Medieval Romerberg

This is Frankfurts loveliest square, hemmed with restored medieval gabled buildings most famously, the Romer, the slightly pink three-part stepped building that has housed the city hall for the past 600 years. The square is filled with cafes around the Fountain of Justice and the Old Saint Nicholas Church, and it hosts a lovely Christmas market in December each year.

Frankfurt is one of the most modern cities in Germany.

Located in the Hesse Bundesland, in the west of the country and on the banks of the River Main, Frankfurt is one of the most cosmopolitan and dynamic cities in Germany.

Frankfurt is home to the European Central Bank, which makes it the business capital of Germany and one of the most important financial hubs in the world.

For many travellers, Frankfurt is the gateway to the country and even to the European continent. Although from a tourist point of view Frankfurt may lack the old charm of Munich or Dresden or the dynamism and historical weight of Berlin, the city is interesting enough to spend a couple of days visiting the medieval corners of its city centre, marvelling in front of its imposing skyscrapers or exercising your credit card in one of its many shopping centres.

Frankfurt has an excellent transport system and its city centre is quite walkable. The most remote areas of the Altstadt are connected by its several metro lines and commuter or regional trains.

Tourism In Frankfurt: Overview

Frankfurt am Main is the main financial hub in Germany, being the headquarters of many German and multinational corporations. However, this city is not among the best cities for tourists in the country. While Berlin offers a rich cultural experience and Munich has the Oktoberfest, Frankfurt has just a strong business vocation.

Regardless of that, the city still has a high influx of non-business visitors, which can be explained by two reasons. The first is its prime location in the western part of Germany. The citys railway connections are also great and Frankfurt is just a short train ride away from places like Brussels, Luxembourg and Eastern France.

The second reason behind the citys influx of visitors is its international airport. The Frankfurt am Main Airport is among the top 5 in Europe and has a wide range of intercontinental flights. Lufthansa, the countrys biggest airline, uses the Frankfurt airport as its main hub.

The city still has some interesting tourist attractions though. The Frankfurt Tower is probably the main one, but the city also has a quaint old town.

If you are travelling by bus in Europe, book your tickets using Flixbus and GoEuro. If you are flying, compare and book tickets using Jetradar. For those using the train, buy train tickets on Trainline.
