One of the best things to do in Hattiesburg for me is to admire and photograph their public art installments. The number of murals is impressive , and Hub City, Hattiesburgs nickname, is just getting started. Find your favorites from the mural trail with this map as you explore the area.
Another way to enjoy artsy Hattiesburg is by admiring the architecture of its stately buildings. The historic Sanger Theater and the courthouse are two of my favorites. Hattiesburg also has impressive sculpture displays, creatively painted utility boxes, and a darling art alley with a pocket museum worth visiting.
Get out on the water and enjoy fishing, kayaking, and more at Paul B. Johnson State Park, offering an 800-acre playground. The entrance fee is $2 per person children 5 and under are free. A Bonus Offering: Hattiesburg For Train Travel
If you ever wanted to try an Amtrak train trip, Hattiesburg is an excellent place to do so. We parked our car in the Hattiesburg Train Station lot for a trip to New Orleans. The round-trip train ticket was under $50 each, offered free Wifi, and dropped us within a $5 Uber ride to our downtown hotel.
My husband and I found the train station staff friendly and helpful, the facility clean, and the train trip a great value. We will definitely consider doing it again.
Fun Fact: We drive an oversized truck. Overnight parking at our hotel was $65 per space per night. Ours takes two, so you can see how much money we saved by taking the train.

We Highly Recommend This Rental
We highly recommend this rental! Immediately on arrival we could tell the property and grounds were safe and well cared for. The home itself was immaculate, comfortable and well-appointed, from the bedding and pillows to the full kitchen. There is no dishwasher but all other appliances were in great condition and super clean! The kitchen has a large double sink so hand-washing was no problem. The owners were AMAZING hosts!! Very friendly and helpful in assisting us with use of their smart TV and offering other options for dining and entertainment in the area. We enjoyed our entire experience and wish we could have stayed longer .

The room was filthy. The sheets were dirty and had leftover hair in them. There were ashes all over the floors. The toilet was disgusting and hadnt been cleaned and there was pubic hair on the toilet. There was a roach crawling around. A washcloth was left on the shower rod. A condom box was left in the nightstand. Then theres a no refund policy. The only positive thing that I can say about this stay is that the front desk guy was really nice and did everything he could to rectify the situation that clearly wasnt his fault anyway.

The Microtel Inn is a model of soulless efficiency that I hope does not represent the future of travel hotels in America. This appropriately named hotel provided a micro sized room that was overpriced for its very small size and spartan features. The high wall mounted TV and glaring fluorescent lights reminded me of a hospital room. There was no hot breakfast and a very limited selection of food. In keeping with the atmosphere of this place, the front desk attendant worked efficiently but displayed no warmth or friendliness.
